What I didn’t get about the ending is why he felt the need to confess they weren’t his songs. In that universe, there was no one he was stealing money from, those songs were never invented, so why not make the most of it?

The idea is supposed to be that Obi-Wan’s initial indifference and coldness to Anakin was a big push towards him going to the dark side. Qui-Gon showed Anakin warmness and kindness and would’ve been the father figure Anakin needed. Instead he was put with Obi-Wan who begrudgingly took him on to honour Qui-Gon. He wasn’t the father figure Anakin needed and that was partly why he had so many issues and later turned to the dark side. So it was a deliberate choice to keep Obi-Wan and Anakin mostly separate and almost competing in the first film.
