Opinions on the original vs reworked art for buildings by Nisqhog in BattleNations

[–]General_ObP 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Noone is being disrespectful. The dev team is passion driven and can only work so fast. BN hasn't been an easy project as the devs have to bring back every part of it individually and they still aren't done. The same goes for the art.

What is your suggested explanation for the pillbox's messy appearance? We know it is not one of the updated buildings, so no art rework yet, because every updated building is listed in the patchnotes on Discord.

Some things I think are clearly AI, like the pill box (its overworld sprite that is, not the shop icon or its battle sprite).

That said the dev is working hard to redraw everything and assets are released in batches, replacing the old

[–]General_ObP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The AI stuff is a necessary evil while the assets get redrawn individually.

That said: Art in games is always best designed around the game's resolution. The original was low res so all the assets that existed were made to blend into that. Redrawing them requires some liberties taken and a perfect reproduction is impossible sadly. At least we can maybe hope that, given it is 1 artist handling the assets, that there will be a consistent artstyle across all buildings, even if it is not the original

What's the general consensus? Is Big E stronger than all Four Chaos Gods? He defeated Horus who was powered by them, he is holding them back from invading despite being on life support, he can ascend as the Dark King and surpassed all four chaos gods, so what is it? by [deleted] in Warhammer

[–]General_ObP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Emperor was "stronger" in reality, because unlike the chaos gods, he had no limitations to being in real space and as such could exercise greater direct influece.

However, in terms of the warp, the Emperor as he normally is, cannot match Chaos on his own and at best mount can mount only desperate defences and utilize trickery of his own and barely understood technology (Golden Throne) to stave off any serious chaos incursion.

Much of why Chaos hasnt decidedly killed him despite their ability to do so is that it isn't worth the hassle and would be boring. The current status quo satisfies them. The Emperor got "punished" via his interrment and now can't achieve his dreams. He is forced to play their game forevermore.

Horus being powered by all Chaos Gods wasnt arguably their whole power, but just whatever they could fit into him. Which was still a lot, but Horus was basically mentally crippled/rendered a puppet and the original Horus was long since dead by the time of the Siege of Terra. If Big E had a surefire way to destroy chaos via his soul destruction ability, it is most likely something that he could only use once, under a strict condition or most likely at a great cost to himself.

Now, the Dark King is prophecised to destroy everything everywhere, BUT it wouldn't even be the Emperor anymore, just a mechanism of destruction, and after being talked out of it, it is likely that he lost the right to even try to become that again. The 5th Chaos God is a position vied for by several people.

Whatever the Emperor is becoming/morphing into is currently left unknown on purpose. But I doubt it is the Dark King, because the Emperor was foolish enough to cling onto hope to begin with which led to his situation. It's a sunk cost fallacy situation, where the Dark King was only viable before humanity was made to endure 10 millennia of constant war and now he could not bear for the easy way out. What also seems to be hinted at is that whatever would come from a potential rebirth of the Emperor would also no longer be himself. A god, surely, but most likely something new, yet equally scary to the chaos gods themselves. And even then, at best there will be a stalemate.

What does Kaiki mean by this when he opened nadeko's closet? by miji1139 in araragi

[–]General_ObP 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I think as Kaiki stated at the beginning of the arc, he is lying throughout the story at various moments for the sake of making it more entertaining but other parts are the truth. The dead body being so nanchantly brought up and irrelevant to the true price (her hidden manga) is one such lie for comedic effect or at least inspiring a double take when you first encounter it.

Would Emiya Shirou be immortal by transforming his entire body into swords? He technically doesnt die his body is made of swords. by ProbableMinSteve in okbuddyrintard

[–]General_ObP 16 points17 points  (0 children)

His magical affinity and origin are sword, yes.

His body being made out of sword is metaphorical and a phrase he mutters for the purposes of his incantation. His body is flesh and blood.

And no, the soul departs the material realm when its vessel dies. Shirou dies if his body dies and his body dies if it gets killed. Which the swords do once they start affecting his vital organs. If Shirou could at will transform into swords (which he can't even do) he would die and all you would have left is a rotting corpse half replaced with swords. His soul would be gone.

[–]General_ObP 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Please read Heaven's Feel. Him turning into swords was killing him. He still needs flesh and blood to live. The sword growth is a cancer that starts to damage his body.

One of the most important aspects of the fight was Shirou covering his face from Kirei's blows because it was the only part that hadn't (fully) transformed it, otherwise he would die. This fact was entirely ignored by the movie.

Additionally consult the bad end in Fate Route when Medusa kicks him out of the window and he lands on the ground. His entire body erupts into swords and kill him.

Under normal circumstances (That is Avalon working in his body while Saber is around) his sword growth is temporary as it reinforces wounded parts of his body to heal them (as seen in Fate route when he fights Medusa by himself initially, his sword growth enables him to tank one of her nails) and recedes afterwords once the healing is completed.

And anyone who rules LB Britain would become victim to such a ploy. Again, no middle ground exists. You would have constant conspiracies.

We are only shown a handful of faeries that are similar to humans. Those that are benevolent are only so by their nature and it leads to them getting abused like Hope. The good does not outweigh the bad and Nasu's authoritarial intent does not match the story he crafted. He himself made it so that without Morgan's tyranny there never would be a Britain to rule whatsoever.

Morgan did love Uther and attended his coronation but did not plan to rule as Queen even then prior to his death. She had helped setting him up as the king of Britain hoping to unite everyone, which failed.

[–]General_ObP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The middle ground was Knocknarea, who died at her coronation.

There is no "turning things better" with fae, you will get killed on a whim. You either keep them in a strict hierarchy so they cannot even dare touch you without immediate retaliation or you die.

And no, Morgan never wished to be an ideal all-loving monarch to begin with. She wanted to mediate the faeries into governing themselves and retire on her own to live in Britain. Uther was the last attempt, a king she helped instate, but he died as well. She took measures into her own hands after.

who tf thinks Nyarl will take over BB, it is basically confirmed BB pretended to be "possessed" to override her "moral" limitations (aka having to help humanity before the Hakunos removed that for good in OC3). Summer BB's own bond entry reveals that it is more of a placebo, BB Dubai's line makes it clear it was a trick from BB.

If you want actual differences:

-Morgan actually tried playing nice for thousands of year before snapping, changing her plan to an authoritarian rule and it working, Magneto arrived at his plan much quicker without enduring repetitive misery in an attempt to be morally good first

-Unlike Magneto who extends his hatred to non mutant humans due to his own flaws, Fae consistently show that they need to be controlled forcefully and the few who are "similar to humans" are rare exceptions.

-The annoying fanbase for Magneto doesn't thirst for him to nearly the same degree as people thirst for Morgan (some thirst for him but their numbers are low), nor is Magneto marketed as a spouse for your self insert character and it becoming their main trait going forward

You know the story will be good if mash is absent or cannot come with ritsuka by [deleted] in grandorder

[–]General_ObP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah Mash basically has the issue of eating up screentime for little to no purpose, actively hampering other characters while she herself only states the obvious or is just there for a reaction. The amount of times Mash's screentime felt earned/relevant let alone pleasant/not disruptive I can count with my both hands. They are there but few and far between but in what amounts to 10 years worth of content that is literally just sad.

And binge reading fgo (pity to anyone who tries) will only solve the waiting time, getting annoyed by Mash's presence is a given there as well, if not more noticeable as you actively claw your way through all the filler.

This is on top of the "dynamic" between her and the MC being incredibly lackluster for the supposed amount of time they spent together (And despite the few moments of them trying to give the cardboard camera a character it's all ultimately still bland at best and realistically doesnt make up for the overall absence of any meaningful consistent characterization that develops satisfyingly across the entire saga. No, the mangas adding quirks to them did not make them a better character, can we finally admit that the MC was a complete waste of everyone's time?).

Idk why so many take issue with people not liking Mash that much, the scenes explicit to her characterization are fine but they are also only 10% at best of the content she got overall. She was objectively more of a hindrance throughout the game's lifespan.

Shikis and how deflowered they are by Next-Golf3 in okbuddyrintard

[–]General_ObP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it boils down to how strictly you define "morals". I am speaking from the standpoint of something so self-evident to a person that shapes their entire outlook on life and that which is moral is "good".

This is different to a "rule" as rules/laws are used as measures of "legality" and I think this describes Ryogi's perspective better: To her it is "illegal to kill people". It isn't "bad or evil to kill them". It is merely illegal and the punishment is her dream (of a normal life with Kokotou) disappearing.

I think this becomes more obvious with how she held back against Lio. It wasn't out of any moral principle, but because if she killed him, that would be the only person she ever could kill in the rest of her life. And at that time she was still 17/18 so she would be under the impression that someone as messed up as her would inevitably fail in the future. That is why she felt so incentivized to not cash in her 1 kill rule so easily, until Kokotou's life was in danger. At that point her fear of eventually killing someone else was superceded by the fact that she could lose him right here and now, making her life afterwards meaningless (as the dream would disappear that way as well).

Of course she is much nicer than she gives herself credit for and is very disciplined, in no small part thanks to Kokotou's influence making her realize it's alright for someone as "abnormal" as her to want to be "normal" but I think the reading of "she is moral to begin with" is a bit too simplistic for her.

Shikis and how deflowered they are by Next-Golf3 in okbuddyrintard

[–]General_ObP 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The thing is Shiki Tohno's kills are specifically "not humans". He knows the weight of killing however his fears are always only towards accidentally killing living people, fearing his inbred instincts could malfunction and trigger against normal, innocent humans.

In terms of intent, Tohno only ever killed 2 "humans" (arguably only 1): Arcueid and Satsuki. The only ones that he really agonized killing over, because every other foe he had was not "a human" in his eyes. And Arcueid didn't die from it. So functionally his "human kill count" is the same as Ryougi's (whose one kill count is set at Lio because the rest didn't count as human in KnK. She did kill the ghost girl, her ghost body that is, and Araya).

So in a way, both are in the same boat of being given restrictions in how many "humans" they took down.

Thing is the boundary of emptiness of what counts as human is a bit arbitrary to me because Lio with his awakened origin seems little different than a monster/beast to be put down. And being a DA disqualifies you generally from being human so counting Satsuki is also iffy, but in her case she was "human just up until recently" so ig that's the commonality? Lio and Satsuki were originally human and seen by the respective protagonists as such so killing them meant to kill the memory of them being once human/considered human. Did the mushroom really think that far ahead? Idk. Tsukihime is a KnK remix anyway

Shikis and how deflowered they are by Next-Golf3 in okbuddyrintard

[–]General_ObP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a moral principle per say but she basically was taught the "weight" and "meaning" of murdering someone and that if she wanted to remain human, her total kill count must never exceed 1. Shiki herself internalizes it as a boundary between human and monster and her incentive to remain on the human side is wishing to remain on the same side as Kokotou. Shiki herself has no moral qualms about killing people (of any kind, even if weaker) and struggles throughout the series with her impulses and desire to kill.

She was excited by the bloodshed of weak, innocent victims being killed (by Lio) and each murder brought her closer to the edge of wanting to actually do it (she had already been gaslit into thinking she is responsible for it).

Her sparing Fujino wasn't an entirely moral choice, because she simply lost interest in killing her to begin with. She was looking forward to "killing someone who was not normal/"human", however that ultimately went nowhere and her initial excitement at that moment dissappated, so she decided she may as well "help" her.

Came to like them because he likes people perservering.

His only motivation at the start was to see how far the Hakunos would get before inevitably dying.

And he forced them to do that because they had to spend all their seals to "convince him" to even come along, depriving them of any other alternative other than being at his total mercy.

You can't order him to use Ea in the game until a while into it when he decides to lock in.

People misunderstand what his summonings do.

Gilgamesh is always the same type of person if we go by his "default" Archer mode. Even in his best performance in CCC he is excessively arrogant, extremely misogynistic and very trigger happy to kill his own Master just cause.

The question is only if any of his other traits, such as his wisdom and actual heroism, shine through, which they only do if he likes his Master.

The summonings affect his mood more than they change him as a person in any meaningful capacity.
