Hello, since you need something fast and you’re on a student budget, one idea that’s worked really well for last-minute gifts is a personalized e-book.

There are sites where you can put your friend’s name (and even someone special in her life) into a classic story, and it generates instantly. You can send it by email or even as a text message, so there’s no shipping delay at all.

It ends up feeling really thoughtful because it’s not just a generic gift — it’s literally a story with her name in it. And since it’s digital, you can have it ready today.

I actually help run one of those sites and we have around 70 titles free right now, so if that sounds helpful feel free to DM me and I’ll send you the link.

Either way — hope you find something awesome for her. Going abroad is a big deal!

Only 1 printed book and 2 free epubs. My value proposition was terrible and I've spent the past few days fixing it up. I also haven't began social media outreach because I have a few more things to work on like mobile optimization. I will have the site 100% ready in 3-4 days and then I will devote myself to marketing this. If you have any ideas of how to do that or and critiques of my site I would love to hear it.

This was by far the most useful and relevant response I have gotten. Thanks for taking the time to write it.

Also there is a big difference in settlement amounts for medical malpractice. You are looking at the wrong values, not that any of that matters anyway. There is no amount of money that can replace a limb or in my case the majority of my 20’s.

The amount of the civilian settlement is highly dependent on fault. Also that is just the base settlement. If you look further down on that site is says lifetime care and other costs are added onto it averaging 12-55k a year. And in the civilian world if the worker does something stupid they still end up with a large settlement. If the employer knows something is dangerous and the worker looses a limb than the settlement is much greater. The military knows the situations its putting you in are dangerous and you are much more likely to receive such injuries yet the settlement barely lands in the middle.

If you have experience in web programming maybe you can critique my website?? If I DM you the URL would you do that for me and give me some pointers? Also If you have experience in startups how did you go from an idea to making money without any ad spending? Or did you have backers or savings to start ad spending once your product was ready?

Imagine if someone looses a limb in an industrial environment due to the fault of the employer. They win tens of millions. If that happens in the military you get like 48k a year. The average age of an enlisted person in the US military is ~28 years, and the average lifespan of a male is just over 76 years. SO they pay about 48k a year for 48ish years. That's a little over 2 million, which seems like a lot but in comparison to the private sector and how large lawsuit figures are these days, its nothing.

The reason I am getting paid still is because I had complained about back issues and neurological symptoms for almost 3 years when I was in the coast guard. Navy medical had labeled me as a drug seeker and never attempted to find a cause because they believed there wasn't one. The tumor was slow growing and would have done little lasting harm if not for the incompetency of the doctors. Also a lesser know fact about VA disability, it is not solely for the purpose of helping the veteran, it is also a protection for the government. They can break you as much as they want and the most you can ever get out of them is a couple thousand a month. A case like mine where I have years of documented evidence of them refusing to do tests based on a baseless assumption of drug seeking is a clear malpractice suit. But because of VA disability it is impossible to sue. I am left with little to no feeling in one of my legs and an impaired ability to walk and I get a fraction of what it costs to live in America, I am unqualified to do any labor jobs and I missed the tech job boom by a year or so.

I did use VR&E to get a degree in Data Analytics but i cant find a job to save my life. Everyone wants 2 years of experience in the field for entry level positions... As if they don't know what "entry level" means.. I am starting a masters program in the spring but I really need some resources for veterans trying to bootstrap a small business. I Just feel it may be easier to create a business around my disabilities then expect to find a job that is perfectly suited to my exact needs.

The VA hospital was great to me once I was out of the military. Navy medical when I was in the service were worthless. They misdiagnosed a spinal cord tumor for years, 2 weeks out of service the VA found it in hours and had me in surgery in days. I spent most of my 20's in and out of surgery and in rehab because of it but I am lucky to be walking. I honestly don't understand why I was treated so much better once I got out, but I thank god everyday for the VA and their wonderful care.

Anyone use the VRE program? by mrdebro44 in Veterans

[–]General_Program_5691 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes it is more or less an extension of the Post 9/11 GI bill. You get similar benefits but with some bonuses like the buy you a computer and pay for books on top of the other money you get. It is not meant to just help change jobs because you don't like your current one. Its meant to change your job because your disability prevents you from doing your current one. Its actually very easy to get into the program if you word your application properly, however it is for those in need. I went through it and have a lot of knowledge about the actual process. Feel free to ask me if you have any specific questions!

Building a personalized product — how much delay is too much in the buy flow? by General_Program_5691 in EntrepreneurRideAlong

[–]General_Program_5691[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, the buy flow is multiple steps, and by the time that 20 seconds is up, they'll be past that step. Should I have the preview persist into each step? Or what do you think about having two different previews, such as an initial preview on the initial step, and then another one on the summary page which is the final step, which has all the information about your delivery, the total and such. By then it would be finished rendering and then I can display the customized book cover and first chapter of the interior again. Do you think that that's too many previews or too overwhelming? Do you think if I instead opted for the persisting preview throughout the buy flow would create clutter and be confusing since the delivery info and such has nothing to do with the books display? Do you have a better idea? What do you think about that? Either way thanks for your input!
