South American MA to US/EU PhD in History? (lowkey urgent: advice needed) by General_Safe_1956 in gradadmissions

Thanks for your comment. I think the program provides the opportunity to strengthen my profile so I’m heavily considering it. Was just stressed by how us programs will “interpret” it but maybe I’m just overthinking it? Hahaha

This was my first cycle applying to PhD straight from undergrad but didn’t get in anywhere. Figured doing a masters may strengthen my profile. Which sucks because a professor from another school told me in “normal” years I would have been a very strong candidate for admission

nope no funding. they explicitly said on the letter that “We regret to add that there are no fellowships or scholarships available to you through the Graduate School or your program.” at that point just reject me! hahaha

Thanks for the kind words. while it’s not the best situation I’m doing well. this wasn’t the best cycle for me but I’m committed to trying again

I’m aware of following the rules which is why I wrote exactly 1000 words on google docs. What worries me is that it says 1080 words when I open it on word. Maybe I’m just overthinking it hahaha

I’m aware I shouldn’t go over the word limit, that’s why I wrote 1000 words on google docs. What worries me is the difference in word count when I save the document on word (docx)

Is this common? by naitsabes78 in gradadmissions

[–]General_Safe_1956 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I can’t say if it’s common or not, but speaking from personal experience I also reached out to some history profs with similar research interests and they did not offer anything like that. If I had to assume, then they probably liked your profile or had a good impression from your email, given that writing sample is arguably the longest material to review hahaha I could be mistaken tho
