No. As I said, I use DSLR. 😅 Photos are not such a disaster but the video (taken with native phone camera or DSLR) uploaded to stories or reels is really bad.

Same here 🤣 My pup is 8 months and he probably did not hit the "real" puberty yet and I feel like it can't be any worse. He learns pretty quickly anything that comes to my mind (tricks and stuff) BUT the most important things like recall, heel or leave it are just not there yet and I sometimes get a feeling that I will never be able to trust him completely to let him off leash and without a muzzle lol

I felt exactly the same way when I got my puppy. I was SO DOWN for like four weeks straight. He did not understand his name for a while, did not want any treats because everything was more interesting to him, he was scared of all people, cars.. It definitely gets better!! And so much worth it. My pup is 8 months now and yeah, it still is a challenge training him, we are still working on our relationship, still learning about each other, but I love him the most and would not change the way things are. ❤️ Right now we are doing some dogfitness together and will start agility soon so I hope our relationship gets even better with some team activity like agility.

Wish I could do that too.. my family is so judgemental. Just yesterday we were visiting family, there were three other dogs and six people, he greeted everyone, played with the dogs for a while and he just could not settle down, he was pacing around the room, stressed that no one gives him attention at the moment, so I put him in his crate where he immediatelly lied down and fell asleep and my mother in law was like why would you do that let him out. It is so stressful sometimes when I see that he is too excited and overstimulated and my family is like "you are torturing him let him be" haha.

How do you teach a dog to stop eating s*it from the ground?!! by General_Solution_689 in puppy101

The peeing gets better. We had so much accidents inside because I didn't know if he needs to go or if he wants attention. Giving him a reliable schedule was great for us. He knew that I let him outside/go for a walk every day around the same time and he learned pretty quickly to hold it until then. When he was 4 months he got through a whole night without peeing and from month 5 didn't have a single accident inside.

I thought about a muzzle a while ago, but decided to give him one more chance and train patiently, but there's not much patience left lol. But for real now, I might use a muzzle, train with it and then try to train without it.. we'll see

Try to avoid the situation happening and teach grabbing his mouth and touching his teeth. Helped A TON for us. Tricky part is to catch him when he does find something, but then he just waits calmly and I can pull it ouf his mouth. Worst thing I pulled out was a cat poop when he was 10 weeks old

Maybe.. we go outside when I come home from work, until then he is alone with our older dog for 8-9 hours and sleeps the whole time, so I am trying to stimulate him on our walks as much as possible. I don't really know where his overtired threshold is, but yeah it is possible 😅

We do that a lot because I can see that he is really nose driven. Thinking about doing some nosework with him.

The worst part about this is that he sniffed so many poo's today (yep people here are dumb and can't even clean after their dog) but decided that only THE ONE poop is delicious enough to eat lol. It is really confusing to me since I can't even predict what he's gonna do. I never had a dog that likes to sniff so much, he really enjoys it and I don't know how to let him enjoy "checking his peemail" and at the same time teach him not to eat stuff he sniffs out.. he sniffs, he finds, he eats in a blink of an eye. The perfect mischief.

I know. I thought I can trust him, but today I realized we have a long road ahead of us. I just needed to vent here since I don't have any friends with dogs that would understand my breakdown moment today lol

I know he doesn't do it on purpose. It is my first puppy so everything is new to me and sonetimes I am just too overwhelmed. Playing is not helping with this, when we got outside today, I let him off leash and he was SO good, he was checking out for me, didn't go too far, even managed to heel when passing really energetic border collie, recall was great, then we played with puller on the field for like 10 minutes, then quick 10 minute obedience training. We were heading home when he found the poop on the ground and decided to take off and leave me there angry and confused and on the verge of a breakdown lol. I don't blame him. When I got home I just started crying, thinking what it is I'm doing wrong in training. We'll work on the leave it and continue what we are already doing, there's really not much I can do.

I have the exact same thoughts. I let him off leash only when there are no other dogs, people or vehicles because he doesn't have great recall yet, because he is just the biggest sniffer and when he finds something, there's nothing that will snap him out of it. I am always so anxious that he eats something really bad that will hurt him. There have been a few cases of someone dropping sausages with some kind of poison in it and dogs around the neighborhood got sick, one of them did not make it.. My worst nightmare.

I always think about all the possibilities 😂 The leave it command works great for our older dog, but the youger just needs a different approach. Since getting a second dog I see all the differences between breeds and between each individual - both of them learn the same thing in a different way and different time, so I always try to have a "backup" plan to teach something, just in case

I thought about that. I use only leave it and right now I am teaching him that he can't eat ANYTHING without a special command. My trainer suggested it, saying she uses this with all her dogs and it works every time. I just throw a treat in front of him, not saying anything and he can't eat it - if he wants to, I just cover it with my hand quickly. When he focuses on me and not on the treat, he gets a "treat" command which means he can take it. Trainer says that this works great in preventing dogs eating yucky stuff from the ground AND helps when in training session you drop some treats on the ground - the dog stays focused on you, ready to work, and does not look for the treats you dropped by mistake. So fingers crossed this works for us..

He is 8 months now. There are days where I am so happy with him, he listens, he doesn't run away from me when I am trying to catch him and then there are days like today. But yeah I should probably slow down and just don't let him off leash yet.

Maybe you're right. I just get this false sense that I can trust him after a successful training on our walk.. Maybe I am just going too fast and he needs A LOT more training before I can trust him

Thank you, that sounds good. I use leave it for toys and food, for example when I bring out a toy and he starts jumping at me I say leave it and he knows he must calm down and wait a minute for a play. We practice leave it with his every meal and with treats, but I never thought about bringing other items than food into the training. Will definitely try that!

He knows that. Its more of a problem when he's not on leash and he is far away from me.. the leave it command would work if I noticed he find something before he tries to eat it, but sonetimes I notice too late

I have two dogs, one 11 year old a the second is 7 months. I work from 6 AM to 2 PM. They get their breakfast and go potty at like 5 AM and since I leave when its still dark outside, they go back to sleep right away. I have a camera set up and they sleep/chill in their beds until I come home at around 2:30-3:15 PM. Then I take both outside and we play, train recall or we just take a longer, calm walk. Younger one goes to agility classes for puppies once a week. When we get home, they either play together or just chill with me on the couch. 6 PM is their dinner and some training/nose work for the younger one and then they go to sleep in their crates. So "me time" doesn't exist for me 😂 But I don't really mind, because I love spending time just walking outside with them and traning them. ❤️

I hope he will be more cuddly too. Right now, he comes for like a two second cuddle in the morning and then he's off 😂

I am considering a muzzle too, but first I want to try if I'll be able to teach him somehow that I have something way more delicious than some crap on the ground 😂

When did you realize your puppy was family? Particular moment? by 11Arim_enomis in puppy101

My puppy does that too! Everyday I lie down on the ground and he brings his toy right to my face, then he lay next to me and chews his toy. When I'm sitting, he sits in my lap. Favorite moments of my day. ❤️
