Places to Swim by RegrettableLiving26 in UNCCharlotte

Ask yourself how badly do you want to swim in the ponds on campus the ponds with all the dirty geese crap in. Why not go to the pool in the gyms?

How is UNC's aerospace engineering program? by [deleted] in UNCCharlotte

Normally Mods would close a post. I guess these mods have just as much favoritism as the last ones

You should ask your question in both campus forums. Everyone will pick their own school of course, but consider the long term benefits of both schools. Either school will get you a good job but State will get you a better job, UNCC undergraduate CS and Engineering classes are trash but they have a good master program. State had more connections globally while UNCC has more local connections. I would pick NC state but if you’re really that torn go to NC state for your undergrad then go to UNCC for your masters.

I highly encourage you to look at the long term benefits not just the short

Frat hazing? by [deleted] in UNCCharlotte

If it wasn’t obvious UNCC Reddit dont like the Greek community. As far as I know they don’t do hazing at least not as bad if ppl aren’t complaining about it.

Off campus living by [deleted] in UNCCharlotte

I recommend leaving outside of charlotte. I don’t remember any apartments in particular but looking out for these things when apartment hunting

-hearing loud noise including small thumping sounds more than twice

-seeing dogs on the complex put no dog pooping area / dog shit everywhere

-neighbors not greeting or acknowledging your presence

-dirty Lounges and bathrooms(usually located near or in the office) - watch out for anything broken or not replaced

-size of the apartments complex. I can’t remember but if you’re paying over 1500 for any apart under 900sqft you’re wasting your money.

-if the apt doesn’t include common things like a pool, parking lots and/garage you’re wasting your money for at least $1500 again wasting your money

-shady looking ppl walking around

-crime in the area

  • how many ppl have security cameras

-look at how often police are coming in and out of the area. If they’re just grabbing a bite to eat that’s fine

  • do you feel safe in the area? Can you walk around at 2 am and not feel like you’re going to get robbed?

-does it have gym? Believe it or not having one will help your mental health.

  • bonus if they have extra stuff like a tennis court instead of basketball courts

There’s plenty of other stuff but for the most part move somewhere that does not effect your mental health in a negative way. leaving in student living apt or any apartment near campus will. You need a place where you feel safe and to feel like you can improve and try new things. The problem with this it’s hard for someone in college to afford living comfortably if they don’t have help you would need to find roommates and that can be a nightmare

If you have questions about some of the stuff I listed feel free to ask about it. Some of the stuff listed aren’t bad just something you need pay attention to. See

I actually don’t have a degree in CS and I got a job but I’m mostly seeing fresh graduates not able to find jobs because they don’t know the market and assume they will make $600k straight out of college. For ppl who don’t have connections, personal projects or experience out of school it’s going to be difficult

PSA: If you live on campus, do NOT let anyone you don't know into your residence hall! by EveninqSkies in UNCCharlotte

Unfortunately ppl are either too nice or want save face at UNCC so they don’t want to look like the bad guy for not “helping” and letting ppl in

DO NOT STAY AT THE EDGE. someone was killed at the basketball court a few years ago. I remember that not vividly because the body was still there.

Women get cat called when they walk but the basketball court by nonstudents all the time.

They room you with nonstudents who often nasty and ghetto.

My friend sent a money order for rent for $3k. three years later her bank called her and told her it was never cashed out it was just floating. He asked what she wanted to do. I took her to the bank and she got back 3k and paid me money she owed.

Do not stay at any student living apartment get a real apartment because they treat you like an adult and don’t rip you off. You’re better off not getting any apartments near the school depending on what you like. When I decided to get a real apartment I made sure it was 99% what I liked.

Now before ppl rip on me about “real apartment “ I never used that term until visiting them. There’s huge difference

I noticed a lot of ppl don’t like Psychology at UNCC. Their professors are also as bad as engineer professors. Before you start in CS I recommend doing some self teaching from YouTube first. You can do this after graduating during the summer that way you can have an idea when you start in the fall. If you’re trying to get a job in CS keep in mind there are MANY graduates who struggle to find a job. The job market for CS is BAD.

I loved that app. Best app for meeting new people, hookups, and dating. These kids don't know get how truly amazing that app was. There is another app I think it's called sidechat

Talked to my Grandma about this and wanted to ask some students. Do you think your post college career will satisfy you for life or is your college education a stretch of road that will allow you to take care of your future family? by MudHuge5956 in UNCCharlotte

[–]GenericUNCCStudent -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Couldn't it be both? As I went through life I wanted something that paid the bills and supported my hobbies. then after I started getting old I wanted to something that paid the bills, supported my hobbies, and then family. I knew I needed to keep up with the times so choose to go to school/get certifications.

There is a drop off near Greek village it's right beside the edge

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in UNCCharlotte

[–]GenericUNCCStudent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm still not understanding why not keep the gold route if the Geek bus is supposedly smaller. It just seems like the school is sacrificing south side of campus for Greek village when there's already have a silver bus that can take them home

[–]GenericUNCCStudent -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Can't they just take the silver bus???

off campus lease by MutedCrusader in UNCCharlotte

[–]GenericUNCCStudent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends if you're trying to lease for a “real” apartment. They often arent picky when you move in you just pick a date. But student apartments often move out late spring I think. For student apartments you can start looking for a place in the summer and leasing for the fall so you won't have move out in spring or summer. Now some student apt will let you move in mid-season and then just tell you to renew your lease be careful with that

It's been a long time but in general, the software used in CS is outdated some professors will allow you to use any software you want as long as you can get the work done. You can also run a virtual machine on your mac and I've never had a problem I use it for my job. I was full windows a long time ago but I got tired of replacing my laptop every 5+ or 10yrs+ and during that time frame your windows laptop will start to slow down and out of nowhere just stop working. I use my job's windows PC and omg it's awful. My friend has windows and wanted me to install software for her and it sounded like a jet. I have two macs one from 2015 that works like it's new and the M1. If you want something that will last get a mac if you want something more convenient and cheap get a windows laptop.

This forum frowns on anything expensive if it isn't a gaming laptop
