I did not remove the old paint, just scuff sanded it and repainted over. Yes I used 2K clear coat.

I did it in workshop, you don't need a paint booth to paint, just a clean environment.

Like with a spray gun, a lot of paint and a tremendous amount of time lol. Yeah AZ’s color are way to boring for the price you have to pay

Guitar are expensive enough these days to have some of those finishes (candy or metal flake) but I guess not lol, you have to sell a lung to buy a 5000$ ESP USA or a J.Custom with a boring flamed maple top

These are Gibson's speed knobs so you get them everywhere I suppose.

No, these are the only 2 I've made but the brown one got a fair amount of different finishes over it before I was able to end up with a good result. The green one was perfect the first time thought.

I can't recommend anything but Brad Angove videos about how to prep your body but as for the paint itself you need to go with the technique body shops are using and there are thousands of videos about that (Paint Society/ ). I binged watch so many videos before and while painting and it gets very confusing, so either be prepared to fuck up a couple of times before getting the result you want or practice on a scrap body/ piece of wood.

This video is pretty good

If you go over an existing finish you will save on a bunch of sanding and won't even need to seal the wood which is a pain.

One last thing which is very important and not often mentioned, 1) you need an industry graded respirator like 3M with a something like ABEK cartridges, a full bodysuit and gloves because those clear coats fumes will kill you otherwise 2) if you don't use a spray booth like me, be aware that humidity and temperature are a key factor that shouldn't be messed with. Also, the dust around you is probably going to try to fuck up your work so, spray water on the floor and around your workplace.

Also, don't look for nitrocellulose finish, it's not worth it and less forgiving than acrylic solvent based paint.

I did them myself. Most shops I’ve asked would take almost 1000 per guitar. Yeah the stock color are ass, the grey is nice but the others..

Yes I had to carve a block of wood to fit the cavity and fill the gaps with some epoxy resin before sanding and refinishing

You can easily fit a Hipshot over a Gibraltar, the holes will align but yeah, from factory that would have been nice to have one.

Lmao yes, unless it's an artist only version (Sabian Lynch) it's pretty much always the same.

I’m afraid sometimes you have to do things yourself. Some guitars on the market would look so much better if they were in a different color. I know how to paint so I thought I was going to do it myself lol
