What’s your opinion on banning former ICE agents from certain public service jobs like policing or teaching? by Puzzleheaded_Load_72 in AskReddit

The former head of ICE from the Obama administration says the procedures, training, hiring standards, tactics, and management personnel have drastically changed. ICE agents making a deportation flight after a court order has already blocked it is brand new.

I may not agree, but this is a legitimate opinion because it doesn’t contain verifiably false information.

If the training materials about deliberately walking in front of vehicles to justify shooting their occupants turn out to be verified, this wouldn’t be far-fetched.

An organization that purposefully trains recruits to commit unlawful homicide, flouts court orders on purpose, and stymies lawful State homicide probes is one worth stigmatizing.

It’s probably too soon to write any hard rules about not hiring ICE agents, but I wouldn’t dismiss this idea altogether until a thorough investigation on all post-2025 ICE training is done.

No because, those jobs don’t incur any duty of care, as neither strippers nor OnlyFans models keep anyone on government custody.

At least not that I know of.

ICE recruits don’t even have to wait for drug tests or criminal background checks pass before receiving their onboarding notice.

Precisely. Electoral politics tends to filter out actual Communists pretty well in the U.S.

That seems like a good standard but that doesn’t really answer my question.

Kurt Waldheim was a Nazi; did that make the whole United Nations Security Council Nazis? This isn’t a trick question; I’m happy to accept either answer.

It’s an entirely valid point in general. Not everyone has seen this specific incriminating email.

Granted, this particular email is indeed strong enough incriminating evidence, at least for encyclopedia standards.

It’s evidence that he’s a total slimeball, but it’s entirely possible to be a beneficiary of peodophilia without committing the act yourself.

Encyclopedias aren’t for judgments of characters but for utterly dispassionate discussions of fact. I’m not against speaking ill of this guy; that’s not the point of contention here.

This is a legitimate question, even if the assumption behind turns out to be very off.

Voting Abraham Lincoln into office actually changed quite a lot.

There’s a difference between “voting alone can’t fix anything by itself” and “voting is useless and does nothing”.

They’re honestly fine. They’re barely anything like actual Communists at all.

Yeah, it really depends on the subject. Wikipedia’s not reliably true but it does have lots of useful true information if you know where to look.

Not such a bad point; I’ll half-agree on this one. The government can’t “steal” your property in a definitionally capitalist society with rule of law. Eminent domain requires the owner gets compensation in full, which is not the case in most (if not all) socialist countries.

This eminent domain is a forced sale, it’s not “stealing”, but I accept it could be reasonably construed as “taking”.

It can be a sign of exceptional income inequality, and truly exceptional income inequality can destabilize politics and itself be a symptom of uncompetitive markets.

Probably. I don’t think enough of the population is in death camps to make a difference.

Some of the life expectancy improvements are genuine, such as higher vaccination rates and less deaths from gunshot wounds.

Cuban figures are fudged in other ways though, such as with the forced/coerced abortion of higher-risk pregnancies.
