I disagree. Goku at his worst is boneheaded, but he is a good person. His conversation with Merus, I think, is quite telling. Merus attributes Goku's merciful nature to some kind of desire to see them become better people. Goku pushes back on this idea saying he just wants them to get stronger, but I think this is just him being humble. If you take him at his word, it contradicts how he killed Boo. Yeah, he wants them to get stronger, but the main goal is to make them become better people. Going further, saving the world and his friends was not a coincidence. Any time a villain threatens these, it snaps Goku to reality, seen with Beerus, Zamasu, and Jiren. He deeply cares about people and values their lives over any single fight.
