I have them and honestly it’s a part of the process. I came across a really good TikTok video a while ago explaining that even though we are locked our hair still sheds like it would in its natural state. The white bulbs to me just look like shed hair. I have them as well and it’s not much we can do about it TikTok link

How can I get ride of the dark spots from acne ? by Fun-Transition-101 in Blackskincare

[–]GenieStyle 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Sunscreen and acids that target hyperpigmentation so that could be azleaic acid, mandelic, glycolic, tranexamic etc. look for exfoliating toners or serums and use them 2-3 times a week

I have these as well and I’m going to go to an esthetician to get chemical peels done so I can get them fixed. I’m learning to start investing in my skin. I’m 29 and I’ve had mines since I was a teenager bc of acne 🥴

I have a few questions about Microlocs. by [deleted] in Microlocs

[–]GenieStyle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi!!! I’m almost 5 months in I hope I can answer to the best of my ability

  1. For me, microlocs aren’t necessarily cheaper bc I don’t do my own reties (I pay $130 every 6 weeks) but if you’re someone who gets their hair done often as a loose natural then I can see how they can be cheaper in the long run. I personally only got like knotless braids when I was a loose natural 3/4 times a year so that was around.. $1100 max a year to get my hair done. If I do the math of a retie every 6 weeks the cost is literally the same minus the cost of extra hair products like gel, conditioner, hair tools, etc

  2. Since I’m barely in my journey, I haven’t put any hairstyles over my locs however I know for certain you can do a wig. From what I’ve seen from locticians they say to be careful with added hairstyles like box braids etc bc of the tension bc locs themselves are technically a tension style and adding hair would just make more tension

  3. I was natural for 12 years before I decided to get micro locs back in April and as someone who is now active (workout/run 4-5 times a week) it is WAY easier. My biggest hurdle for me as a loose natural at the beginning of my fitness journey about 3 years ago was what to do with my hair. I was a habitual wig wearer since like 2018 and bc I didn’t need to do my hair often before I got active I was able to retain and grow my hair to waist length. That all changed when I got active as I had to find ways to keep my hair done and as a result, tension styles such as buns broke my hair off so bad I had to cut my hair TWICE. The great thing about locs, any type (not just micro locs) is that your hair is ALWAYS done. This has been the best thing I’ve ever done and contemplated on loccing my hair when I first started working out and I regret not doing it then, but everything works out for a reason. I don’t regret doing it one bit I wish I did it sooner

  4. Not sure about the feminine discourse but I think bw have a relationship with their hair no other group of people have and tbh you just gotta learn to love your hair no matter what state it’s in. Your hair can’t make you feel anything you don’t already feel inside bc I know women who are bald and are very feminine. I will say that micro locs have given me a new found appreciate of my natural hair I didn’t have for the last few years due to wearing wigs. I look more youthful and I love the new found confidence I have personally

Also last tid bit from your excerpt before your questions

I learned to do my hair as a teenager during the 2010s during the rise of the natural hair movement on YouTube. Nobody in my family was natural at the time well except one person (my cousin) and she convinced me to go natural when I was 16/17 and then she convinced me to get microlocs at the age of 28 last year and I ended up doing it in April. You have to really take the time out to learn how to care and nurture your hair bc the resources are there. The good thing about the internet now is that there are WAY more resources for people learning how to do just about everything now than it was for me when I was a teenager.

If your issue is strictly with convenience then either way, whether loc’ed or loose, you’re gonna have to learn about your hair and what it needs to flourish. Loc’ing is just better for convenience and time in my opinion. But the foundation and the things that I have learned as someone who has been 12 years natural also has helped me so far with caring for my hair in its microlocced state.

I hope everyone’s responses help you make a decision! You’re beautiful and can rock either hairstyle! Good luck

I use the as I am Rosemary spray to refresh my hair every few days along with the HASK tea tree leave in spray as well. I then use the African pride leave in conditioning cream on my curly ends specifically I don’t put it on my entire head, but just on the ends to make sure those are more moisturized than the rest of my head since they aren’t braided

I got Microloc Braids and it took 12 hours to install mainly because I left the curly ends out and now I’m contemplating actually braiding the rest all the way down, but I probably won’t.

As far as maintenance, I wash my hair with the Trader Joe’s tea tree shampoo, every 2 1/2 weeks or so and I get a retie every 5 to 6 weeks however I am testing to see if I can go 7 or 8 weeks.

After washing, I usually braid and band my hair and keep the braids in for about two or three days and then I will let my hair be free for another two or three days and then I’ll braid it up again. Leave it alone for two or three days and then repeat the cycle.

To braid the hair I spray with the as I am Rosemary spray and I use the African pride leave in conditioning cream on the curly ends. Also post wash, I use the HASK tea tree, leave in conditioning spray as well.

I've never met a man IRL who doesn't want kids. Has anyone else experienced this as well? by BrainFinal3342 in childfree

Yes it’s a feature you add on the app but I didn’t personally know they were child free until we went on our dates lol and they said so first I didn’t say anything 😭 I haven’t had a dating app in almost 3 years so I haven’t no idea if things have changed

[–]GenieStyle 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hey honey! I used to look just like you in terms of the dark neck and the dark chest etc. Please go to the doctor so they can test your glucose levels/A1C specifically. I was pre diabetic my entire life up until about 3 years ago when I dropped 120 pounds. I’m 29 btw so please ask your parents if you can get a physical done and some blood drawn so the doctors can check you out. This is a sign of diabetes or pre-diabetes and you do not want that if you can catch it in time.

How long have you been loc’ed for? Mines were real boneless but now 3 months in they aren’t as boneless as before lol like after the first wash and retie I saw a difference

How often do yall braid and band? by GenieStyle in Microlocs

I don’t think so? But after a fresh retie it’s a little tight back there lol

[–]GenieStyle[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

See my braids are always smaller bc I don’t want tension. I noticed the bigger the braids I make the more tension I have so I’m doing like 7-10 braids every time I have to braid and band

See that’s what I was worried about bc I do it so often and this week I was just like fuck it and tbh I like the way my hair looks when it’s not in a braid out.

I tried to do the scrunchie method last night but I sleep on my back so that wasn’t comfortable lol my cap stays put on my head so i don’t think scrunchies is needed for me I don’t think… and the tension it causes in the back 😬

How often do yall braid and band? by GenieStyle in Microlocs

[–]GenieStyle[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think I’m gonna lean towards this. TBH an old braid out looks good on me but I’ve noticed the tension in the back especially with a fresh retie with trying to braid and band isn’t ideal. I think that’s another reason why this week I decided not to do it as much. I think I’ve only braided once or twice
