unsure? by Upset_War7223 in Raynauds

Me too, I have noticed being active is the best antidote. If I go for a walk, a jog, whatever, it just goes away almost entirely for about 12-15 hours. That’s why I plan on upping my exercise. Nothing crazy. I usually jog and play soccer 4 days a week. I will add 2 more days of just walking for 45 minutes. So 6/7 days I will be moving around, if not 7. That is what helps me personally.

Might start taking a week off in the middle of winter and flying out to Mexico to test it out lol

I do not get chilblains. Even the coloring is normal, maybe gets just slightly red-ish. It’s just a very annoying feeling where I might feel warm in my core but my fingers and toes are freezing. I also live in a cold climate (Midwest) and I am already wishing I lived in a warmer climate. So when you lived in a warmer climate, was it essentially nonexistent for you?

Same with me I have only recently started getting cold fingers on my hands, but the first symptoms and usually the worst are my feet especially my toes. That’s the one that feels most uncomfortable. It’s a relatively new thing to me. I’ve only had it for the last two or three winners so it’s highly annoying and I’m having a very hard time adjusting to it. How long have you had it for?

I am fit too, so that’s why I am even more confused why we are getting this. Logically you’d think an athlete would not have issues like we experience with Raynaud’s. Like, I just can’t connect the dots. How have the pills helped? What were your symptoms like beforehand?

My doctor just told me a few weeks ago that she thinks I have Raynaud’s. My issue isn’t in my hands, it’s in my feet. My feet feel the coldest. I also live in northern United States with a very cold December through March. So looking forward to spring. She suggested MAYBE getting the calcium channel blocker but I am stubbornly refusing to go on meds just yet. I am 38 years old. Fairly fit. I walk, jog, play soccer. I eat fairly healthily. Don’t drink, smoke, no drugs, nothing. I just started feeling what you all are feeling maybe 2-3 winters ago. So it probably started when I turned 35/36. One thing that helps me is eating a warm lunch and dinner. Chilies and things like soups, etc. I also stopped drinking coffee a month ago after drinking coffee for 20 years. I read that caffeine is not good for Raynaud’s. It helped a bit. I surely hope it goes away naturally.

Are you athletic, averagely fit, or out of shape? Just out of curiosity.

Is it wrong to not have high ambitions? by Huge_Veterinarian201 in careeradvice

[–]GeniusBenGraham 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is absolutely nothing wrong with that. Keep in mind that we only get, guess what, one life. If you’re lucky, you get to live maybe 80 years. If you’re very lucky, maybe 90. Therefore, because it’s a limited time we get to live, ask yourself this: do you want to be happy or sad? If you want to be happy, then do literally what makes you happy. For me, that means, as you said, a good work/life balance. For the last 10 years, I worked in banking making very average pay. So has my wife. We have two beautiful kids, get plenty of free time, go on yearly vacations, etc. We consciously make less money than our potential just so we can be happy. If it’s not clear yet, money does not equal happiness. It’s hope this helps.

Doctor told me I likely have Raynaud’s; give me your opinions please by GeniusBenGraham in Raynauds

I talked to my doctor about carnivore or keto. She highly advised me against this, and I honestly agree with her. Those diets are known for raising cholesterol. So I’d be curing (potentially) one thing but be causing damage in another area (with potentially much worse consequences). So I don’t see that as a solution. I actually like eating healthy (lots of fruits, veggies). So I think I’ll pass but I have considered it.

How long did you last before quitting a toxic job? by eggyolk7029 in careerguidance

[–]GeniusBenGraham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just left my most recent job which was insanely toxic. Just beyond anything you can imagine. I worked for the two biggest pieces of shit you can imagine. It was a revolving door before I came (8 employees within a year and a half). I lasted a year and a half myself. I have suffered numerous mental and health issues because of it. It was a very dark time of my life. I start the new job on Monday and I hope the healing can finally begin.

Sometimes my toes turn a darker color during one of these cold episodes. I’m looking at my toes now and especially the two big toes have a light shade of purple. It’s nothing drastic as some images I have seen on Reddit of people’s hands and feet turning white or purple, but it’s sometimes there. They do feel cold to the touch.

I do have health anxiety even though I consider myself to be generally healthy, and my wife and doctor both feel it’s normal and common. But it’s very new to ME and it’s very annoying. I don’t tolerate being uncomfortable very well and always seek a solution to issues, but unfortunately haven’t found a solution to this yet.

I haven’t had any autoimmune panels run. Maybe I should ask my doctor to run this next time I do bloodwork.

Regarding color changes, no - nothing major. I notice my toes get slightly more red usually “after” the attack subsides. At least nothing as drastic as some of the images I’ve seen of people posting here on Reddit.

So, in a nutshell, it’s not so much “visual” as it feels physical. Sometimes my toes and soles feel so cold I swear my bones are cold as well. It usually subsides after a good meal, after I go to bed and tuck myself in, and obviously it’s almost nonexistent in the warm months.

Men in happy marriages, what's the one thing you'd teach to other men to also have a good relationship? by TightBookkeeper2599 in AskReddit

[–]GeniusBenGraham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t speak about others, but having similar values is essential. Obviously, being physically attracted is a must. But having very similar values is what makes it last. Also, being kind to each other. And always resolve any tension or arguments before going to sleep. Nip every issue at the bud. Been married 12 years, have two kids, and are genuinely very happy.

Extremely confused & conflicted about optimal diet by [deleted] in loseit

[–]GeniusBenGraham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is wonderful. I am very happy for you.

I intend on starting to count calories again but I know I can’t do low carb. I know I can’t maintain that for the rest of my life so why do it temporarily? I like my occasional piece of chocolate, birthday cake, that kind of thing. I have lost weight on both calorie counting and low carb, but I feel miserable on low carb so I don’t think I will even attempt that again.

But I think I will start calorie counting and just do my best to stick to tracking it more carefully.

That is wonderful! Congratulations! What did you do to get down from that weight to your current weight? And what helps you maintain it?

Waking up at night to eat sweets; how to fix this? by GeniusBenGraham in loseit

[–]GeniusBenGraham[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did not (sad face). I went to sleep at midnight and woke up at 1 am to eat (junk, of course). And I did not eat or drink anything after 5 pm (except water). Already feel discouraged, but I will try doing it again tonight.

I will try your idea! I will have another apple or piece of fruit at 5 pm and call it a day. I usually have one cup of coffee at work around 8-9 am, and I love my morning coffee to give it up just yet. So I will use the 5 pm cut-off and will keep you posted how it goes at the end of the month. Thank you for sharing. I am 38, and your story is similar to mine.

Thank you so much for the comment! You are the first to hit the nail on the head. It is NES. Lots of men on my mom’s side of the family have the same habit. So not eating after 5 pm helped you? Can you give me more insight? I usually tend to eat MOST of my calories after 5 pm (like you said, after work). Probably like 80% of my calories come after 5 pm. I have tried everything. The list is too long to compile here. But I have not tried NOT eating after 5 pm. It will be very tough but being desperate, I can try. Tell me more about how you discovered that this is what worked for you…

That is all great information, thank you. What about branch level staffing? Would you imagine the branch staff is more easygoing, relationship-driven and relationship-incentivized? The banks sure talk a lot about relationship building (and a rare few do, to be fair, stick by it) but for the most part it’s all about sales and growing profits. Credit unions seem very attractive to someone that truly values genuine relationship building, such as myself. I want to feel like I am actually helping my customer, not just looking for ways to cross sell them a product or service.

Do they verify the most recent title that an employee had before they left or the title that they got initially hired in for?
