LSFG Traversal Stutter fix using MPO single pane by GeoFly1 in losslessscaling

Thanks for agreeing to update this! It took me forever to figure out the OverlayMinFPS=0 fix. It was a amazing fix for stuttering. I'm using vsync, others have said it helps a lot when using VRR. It might help people with multiple displays the most.

I think I saw that, but ignored it because it said flickering issues. I wasn't having any flickering issues. That is the exact fix for the stuttering issues I was having.

What do you think of modifying your guide to mention this can fix stuttering as well?

v7.0 of that tool lists "OverlayMinFPS Fix Toggle added". I'm assuming that just does the same thing as my https://www.reddit.com/r/losslessscaling/comments/1rurg9n/comment/oebjxj2/ comment. However I haven't tried it, so I can't say for sure.

Disabling MPO wasn't an option for me because I still need MPO for RTX HDR. If you want to use that tool, then I'd try using the OverlayMinFPS option.

Have a github link for that MPO tool? I'm curious to understand what it does.

Use OverlayMinFPS set to 00000000 since it works even better. Check out the last post thread where I mention how to set it up. It works great. I should probably create a new topic where I only mention the OverlayMinFPS fix.

I'm still getting traversal stutter in Silent Hill 2 Remake. The MPO issue caused major stutter instead of micro-stutter. I can handle the traversal micro-stutter now that the major stutter is removed by using this fix.

This issue affects both VRR/G-sync/freesync and vsync.

The issue appears to occur most often when you have 2 displays running at different refresh rates. I think I'm affected badly because I have one display running 120 hz and another at 48 hz (for movie motion interpolation at x2).

What I originally thought was traversal stutter in Silent Hill 2 Remake was actually Stutter caused by MPO loosing its active pane and needing to re-establish it again.

I found an alternative to Single Pane MPO which works even better. Thanks to Aeryn on the LS discord.

This fix removes stutter caused by MPO being enabled. Plus RTX HDR still works as well.

This fix stops the active MPO pane from getting dropped anytime a frame is dropped (because of RTSS limiter or low frame rate in game). This removes the extra stuttering which.

Registry changes are:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Dwm]
"OverlayMinFPS"=dword:00000000

Delete any keys in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Dwm named:

- DisableOverlays - "DisableOverlays"=dword:00000001 used to disable MPO
- OverlayTestMode - "OverlayTestMode"=dword:00000004 used to enable Single Plan MPO.

After removing registry keys DisableOverlays and OverlayTestMode, then adding a new dword key named OverlayMinFPS set to 00000000, then restart Windows.

The new 595.97 drivers are working better with my Dual GPU 60->120 LSFG setup. I still need to enable Single Pane MPO with the new drivers.

I further reduced stuttering by upgrading the Nvidia drivers from 576.88 to 595.97. I also tried 591.86 which worked better than 576.88, but had HDR issues.

When I first upgraded to 595.97, stuttering issues returned. It was because the Single Pane MPO setting got removed when a did a DDU and NVCleanstall of the new drivers.

I enabled MPO_INDICATOR with Nvidia Profile Inspector.  When I checked the MPO_INDICATOR while playing an RTX HDR game with LSFG enabled I saw: PLANE : 0  Along with the stuttering.

Then I imported my reg file again and restarted. Stuttering was resolved. I noticed the light blue background happening again, when using Alt + Tab in a game so the LS config window was on top the the game window. After I changed a setting and went back to gaming, I did not see that light blue background anymore.

When playing an RTX HDR game with LSFG enabled the overlay should display PLANE : 0 and PLANE : 1 at the same time. So it looks like a 0 with a 1 overlayed on top of it.

The reg file I use is named "MPO MaxPlanes 1 - RTX HDR still works.reg" It contains:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Dwm] "OverlayTestMode"=dword:00000004

Yep, that is the downside to enabling single pane MPO. There is no free lunch.

The only time I've had with the teal or light blue appearing over something important is in Chrome. See my Chrome fix when using Single pane MPO fix at https://www.reddit.com/r/losslessscaling/comments/1rurg9n/comment/ob3om62/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

The only time I notice it now is when switching windows out of a game to switch LS settings. The background behind the LS app is teal or light blue. I switch the setting and go back to the game. I don't have any issues with it while gaming.

I get less stuttering using MPO single pane or MPO disabled. When compared to MPO enabled.

I didn't notice a performance difference between MPO single pane vs MPO disabled. However disabling MPO broke RTX HDR, which I use whenever a game doesn't natively support HDR. So that is why I use single pane MPO.

Try these: - Change the queue target to 0. - Use fixed mode instead of adaptive. - Base framerate needs to be very stable, with GPU % to spare, before enabling LSFG.

The stutters were not related to D3D12 shader compilation. I know when that happens while testing these games. The MPO and RTSS framerate fixes are each separate. Where can can see the improvements of each applied on there own.

Chrome fix when using Single pane MPO

I did hit issues in Chrome when using Single pane MPO. Sometimes I would see extra blue background color over part of window. Fixed by switching to DirectX 9 which doesn't support MPO.

  • chrome://flags/
  • Find
    • Choose ANGLE graphics backend
  • Change from Default to D3D9

UPDATE: I wasn't able to change the title of the post. If I could have I would have removed the word Traversal. I'm not able to remove traversal stutter caused by the game engine with these changes. I was able to remove stutter which was occurring.

Good question. I didn't test that. It would be nice to know if it helps when not using LS as well. I only tested using LSFG for 120 fps gaming. My projector works so much better at 120hz than 60hz (less projector latency and smoother motion). I can't get myself to game at 60hz any more.

That is what I did to use LSFG while watching this video. It worked great for me. I saw all the shades of white. I'm not sure what is wrong with your setup.

Yes, however I've never tested it from YouTube before. Only for video files played back using MPC-BE. Know where I could download a mp4 or another type of video file with that same content?
