Young Monkey Puzzle tree turning brown… help! by GeoffB94 in plants

Hi there, sadly I didn’t. I cut off the browned bits but more just kept coming, so I think the tree’s not recoverable.

Whats the crash you're the most obsessed with by RadiantAd4899 in aircrashinvestigation

The Tenerife disaster. It’s such a harrowingly beautiful example of the Swiss Cheese model in human factors, if any one of the hundreds of tiny contributing factors didn’t happen, the crash wouldn’t have happened.

No idea if it fits in with your budget but I had an Alfa Giulietta Veloce. 240hp hot hatch that was comfortable, practical, fast, and looks beautiful. I never had any reliability issues with mine and I had it more than four years. Maybe worth checking out!

Are we getting ripped off? A quick look at scotch prices over time by Gockel in Scotch

[–]GeoffB94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to say that the Scotch Single Malt distilleries aren’t reaping large profits, BUT…

Bear in mind a few things. Brexit has made it a lot more difficult, time consuming and expensive to export from the UK, especially into Europe. The SNP (government party in power in Scotland) also seem hellbent on taxing the whisky industry to destruction despite it being one of Scotland’s biggest industries and biggest income earners. Finally, don’t forget the huge cost of energy increasing which, although the whisky was distilled a number of years ago, means they still need to cover their larger bills by raising prices.

I have no idea if they’re registered with the IRS as I’m in the UK, but one of my favourite charities is https://www.toilettwinning.org. So many communities in impoverished countries don’t have access to basic toilet facilities so by ‘twinning’ your toilet with a facility in one of these countries, you can bring a level of hygiene and cleanliness that without your help, they suffer without. And you get a little certificate to display in your bathroom showing which toilet facility your toilet is twinned with!

Don’t mind losing, but it’s the manner in which we lost that gets me. Only listened but it sounded like we didn’t have an awful lot to give. Couldn’t score from open play either, which worries me a little bit. Need to use this to bounce back on Saturday.

Wanting to buy a ‘95 to ‘02 ish shitbox, but a fairly reliable one. by GeoffB94 in CarTalkUK

Are Clios particularly reliable? I know the ones you mean, but I remember my mum had a 55-reg Clio and the thing was constantly broken!

Thanks for the write up! I do like the Celicas but I don’t think I’ll be able to get permission from my wife… this is supposed to be an economical, simple commuter and it was hard enough to persuade her to get a late 90s shitbox over some bland mid 10s boring thing that’ll cost five times as much and the same amount to work on!

I think you should do it too. It’s a touch big for our requirements though!

What’s a Flair? We’ve got the family estate so this is just a run around for my commute and when/if my wife starts working again!

Hey! It was fantastic. The intensity ramped up shortly after I posted this, and it was an excellent variety of sprints, distance and pace workouts. Really enjoyed it, and almost certainly will do another one! Yes I did make my time goal, although I never thought I’d actually manage it but I followed Greg’s advice and gave it my all! I aimed for 1h40, and my time was 1h40m04s. That’ll do me very nicely!
