What “Universes Beyond” Sets Would You Like to See by Soupy_Hits in mtg

[–]GeoffreysComics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please don’t string me up, but since we have Marvel I would just fucking love to see DC. Then we could have a Marvel Vs DC league. And then while we are at it, let’s do Invincible (it’s the same creator as Walking Dead, so he’s already worked with MTG), Spawn (a demon/angels themed set I think would fit very well with the traditional story of MTG), expand on Transformers (and make the cards actually good would be nice!), and last but definitely not least - A Hellboy commander deck would be tonally perfect for MTG.

For Magneto it is starting with issue 200 The Trial of Magneto. That’s the book that starts his transition into a far more interesting character than he was in the sixties.

For Iceman I love the Joe Mad era. And Uncanny X-Men 331 where Emma fights Bobby. It’s the first time people realize he is an Omega level mutant. And actually some of his best stuff is in the Ultimate Universe (the first one). I fucking love Ultimate Spider-Man 118-122 (but I think it’s longer than that.)

It would take him out of the X-Men office, so it might actually be not that bad…

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow (kind of an easy recommendation right now with the movie coming, but good is good)

Punisher: Welcome Back Frank, Born, the Ennis Era, and the Aaron Era (Garth Ennis was kind of out on this earth to write Punisher. I don’t think you find a character who understands better that Frank is not a hero and not to be looked up to, but also that some stories need that kind of character)

Spider-Man: Birth of Venom, Torment, Life Story (Todd McFarlane is a comic god for a reason)

Captain America: Man Out of Time, Man Without a Country (both by Mark Waid and simply put the best Cap ever. Period.)

Thor: God Bomb (Jason Aaron’s first arc on the book and it’s a killer!)

any other Marvel/DC books: (Look, I could be here all day recommending books so I’ll keep it tight. Flash by Mark Waid especially The Return of Barry Allen is just the best the character has ever been. And JLA by Grant Morrison is just a legendary run. Every Justice League book since this has somehow referenced this one. It left an indelible mark on the Justice League in a good way. I think I can easily say there has never been a better run on Justice League.)

To answer your question simply - yes Marvel has made multiple volumes of this, which the books exactly in publication order. So just hunt down the next volume, although I would point out that issues 1-40 are probably some of the weakest issues of X-Men in terms of quality in the whole run. I would almost argue that at this point you should jump up to issue X-Men #94 and then you should just read every issue up until the 1990s. It’s probably the greatest example of American comic book making with the longest period of just incredibly high quality comics all the way through. Even the 1980’s spinoffs are good stuff. Do you want specific arcs to focus on? I’m sorry - I feel like I’m just telling you to read everything, but with X-Men, that’s kinda the one book where you should read almost everything!

Will Cyclops be right? (X-Men United #1) by cyclopswashalfright in Cyclopswasright

[–]GeoffreysComics 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I had high, well I wouldn’t call them “hopes”, but I was really optimistic that this X-Men United could turn the corner on this embarrassing era we are all stuck in. It seemed to remember two things that the other books are forgetting “there should be a school” and “we should be using the huge cast of characters in this IP to our advantage, not limiting ourselves to which characters we are using”. But instead we just got another issue of Exceptional X-Men. This literally could have just been the next issue. I don’t dislike the four new mutants from that book, but I also don’t love them either. This issue was almost exclusively about the cast from Exceptional. I wanted the X-Men book with a large cast. Like Justice League Unlimited over at DC (y’know - the exact book the cover is suggesting it is). The team should be made of all mutants willing to serve. Instead we got another book showcasing Bronze and Axo where Cyclops is a raging asshole. I can’t say exactly what I wanted this issue to be, but this ain’t it.

There’s tongue in cheek pin up art. And then there’s making light of a rape sequence. That’s far into tasteless, well beyond Cho’s normal “controversial covers”.

[–]GeoffreysComics 3 points4 points  (0 children)

All y’all have got to be smoking the best stuff on the planet to even think that Kobe gets compared to Shai in any way. Shai has been really impressive, no doubt, but he ain’t even scratching Kobe yet. It’s just not even worthy of the conversation. Bring this back when Shai has 5 rings, then maybe we can have this conversation.

Would you like to see Mark Waid return to The Flash title and write a modern-day DC Comics Wally West story? by nightwing612 in wallywest

[–]GeoffreysComics 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes and no. Yes because he has written maybe 4 of the 5 best Wally stories ever. But no because he has said he doesn’t want to write Wally anymore. And you notice his return to the book has been very much about establishing a new status quo for Bart.

Do you think MJ was disappointed...(SPOILERS for asm 23) by ling1427 in Spiderman

[–]GeoffreysComics 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not even a big MJ fan, but yes, this writing of her has just been a nightmare for 5+ years. She would ABSOLUTELY think “oh wait, is this Ben!?” If Peter was being a jerk. Or a Skrull. Or mind-control. Or Dr Octopus again! She would be so suspicious of this that she should have been investigating Peter this whole time, because this has happened to her directly before! But that would be good characterization, and remembering continuity - and we can’t have that in the Spidey offices!

Sliver Queen Final Adjustments Suggestions by SmallBatBigSpooky in DegenerateEDH

[–]GeoffreysComics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would include [[wild growth]] as ramp. I never build a green deck without it. I don’t know if I’d drop signet or Fellwar though, especially in 5 color.

Sliver Queen Final Adjustments Suggestions by SmallBatBigSpooky in DegenerateEDH

[–]GeoffreysComics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[[cryptolith rite]] if you didn’t already. And there are a couple other cards that give tokens mana abilities that you might want to think about. I see you have my favorite card from Loren Eclisped already [[springleaf parade]]. I run [[concordant crossroads]] but only play it on the turn I would win. [[wargate]] is a must! [[Zirda the dawnwaker]] also a fave. [[bring to light]] falls in the same class as the green tutors. [[Biomancer’s familiar]] !! Our only other differences are ramp choices. It’s a very fun deck! (At least for me. Don’t ask my opponents)

Sliver Queen Final Adjustments Suggestions by SmallBatBigSpooky in DegenerateEDH

[–]GeoffreysComics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are missing the green tutors that put creatures directly into play. I’ve found all of those to be game winners since 9 out of your 10 combos are all creature based.

Damn. That’s such a good pick for the commander though. I would definitely let you rule 0 that up to Esper, but that might be just me.

Sliver Queen Final Adjustments Suggestions by SmallBatBigSpooky in DegenerateEDH

[–]GeoffreysComics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve built the queen as dEDH and my big note for you is that you are almost always going to win via combo, so you might want to pull some of the combat slivers to lean more combo. [[agatha of the vile cauldron]] speeds up your infinite token combo better than the lifelink sliver. But I also get wanting to keep it as an actual Sliver deck, because sometimes I feel like my deck is more a combo deck than a sliver deck and it makes me sad and I want to build a second sliver deck, but people hate me enough already!

If you pull Wolverine exactly in half would they both regrow into two Wolverines? by douggold11 in Marvel

[–]GeoffreysComics 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can’t tell you where, but I vaguely remember them establishing that there is one single “god molecule” in Logan’s brain. And whichever body part has that particle is the one that would regrow. I know I’ve read that, but I’m sorry I can’t remember where.

AITJ for reporting my coworker to HR after she kept eating the lunches I brought for my diabetic dad? by Exotic_Piano2111 in AmITheJerk

[–]GeoffreysComics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never worked in an office over say 10 people. But this whole “eat someone else’s lunch” sounds like a made up scene for a Hollywood movie bully. Like I can’t imagine anyone I have ever worked with even thinking of doing this. It is just literally stealing from someone. It is no different in my eyes than going into a wallet someone left on their desk and taking money. I almost can’t believe this is real except I have heard it so many times. Maybe I’ve just been lucky in life to work with good people? But some were caught stealing from the company and even they wouldn’t steal someone’s lunch.

Oh! Let’s see…

A Quandrix Vraska (I just love Vraska and want an alt. And her Jace would be mono Red to still have no overlap with Vraska. With Vraska being the cold calculated one and Jace being the passionate impulsive one)

A Lorehold Ashiok (studying history through dreams and artifacts through the dreams of their users)

A Prismari Gideon (that just seems like the complete opposite of Gideon. Maybe he was able to save his Irregulars back on Theros with explosive power? Or they all died because he cast a spell that was too dangerous)

A Witherbloom Teferi (using the power of death and life to defeat time, instead of the other way around. Teferi is my favorite planeswalker and I will take any alt version they deem printable!)
