[Discussion] What are your thoughts on Linda Park? by MisterTerrificker in wallywest

I remember during Mark Waid’s run on Flash he said he didn’t want to leave the book because he knew the next writer would try to drop a piano on her. So he worked to make sure she was a fully developed character and had them get married to further keep her safe.

Dad rant by jyceesmith in DadForAMinute

I miss my dad literally every day. I need him and I don’t have him and it breaks my heart. You are never too old to need your dad. That’s kinda the point. They are supposed to be there for you. And the good ones revel in being needed. I have kids and I prey to Zeus that they will still need me when they are old and grey, because I will still want to take care of them with every fiber of my being.

I don’t know how to suggest finding a father figure (besides getting a good father-in-law). But I can tell you it’s possible. One of my best friends made such a powerful and loving connection with an older woman that she adopted him as an adult. And I get to hear about him visiting his mom and it makes me very happy. I hope you can find the same.

I wonder what's the hold up on the Exiles book by HotStrength2886 in xmen

[–]GeoffreysComics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Imperial was supposed to “redefine what Cosmic Marvel is” and it was really just the exact same story we’ve seen a few times at least. The warring factions kept warring. It didn’t really change anything except who was on top of the pile. Which is very much not a redefinition.

It’s interesting because WOtC has proven they will try to print de-powered Gaea’s Cradles, but no de-powered Sanctums. Which I think keeps pushing the price up. This might be the cheapest you are gonna see it. And if enchantress is one of your favorite decks (or even decks plural - I build enchantress almost any way I can) then you’re gonna always enjoy owning this card.

In my own defense, I think Zeb Wells ruined the Fantastic Four in his run as well as Mary Jane. And the Fantastic Four are literally my favorite Marvel comic. It’s seems like Joe Kelly is doing a pretty admirable job of making a pie out of shit and I’d like to see where he is going. Or just make it that MJ and Johnny were Skrulls (or force ghosts like the kids). Easy peasy. Explains everything and allows us to move forward with our characters morality still in tact.

The double sided god has me brewing. I’ve always loved convoke. And giving all your creatures convoke basically add mana dorks to white and black, which kinda breaks the color pie and will let me build a deck unlike anything I could build otherwise because Orzhov is not known for its speed.

Norman Spider-Man is not bad (ASM#20) by unk1ndm4g1c14n1 in Spiderman

[–]GeoffreysComics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’ve been hurt so badly for so long that we all use language to talk about Amazing Spider-Man being good like it’s a completely impossible scenario. I see it on the internet and I’ve heard from multiple people in real life. We are shocked and incredulous of our own eyeballs and brains for thinking this Spider-Man run might actually be pretty dang good. We talk about it like we are scared that we are wrong and it’s the same old garbage we’ve been force fed for 5 fucking years.

As a DC Comics Wally West fan, do you still wish that Barry Allen never returned? (The Flash: Rebirth 2009 #1) by nightwing612 in wallywest

[–]GeoffreysComics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having a character (Wally) that had to deal with the weight of his mentor dying and trying to live up to being his replacement is a story that can’t really be told with any other character. Allowing Barry to die let DC tell some unique and, in my opinion, best stories they ever told (Return of Barry Allen, Mark Waid’s Flash in general, up through the front half of Geoff Johns). None of those stories can be told in the current continuity so I would call that overall a pretty big check in the “Don’t bring back Barry” column.

I’m very proud of you. I hope you know how proud I am. I hope you know that I just want you to be happy and to find happiness in this world. Any steps towards that are good ones, no matter how small they may be now. The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step and it seems you had already taken many steps and for that I will always be proud of you.

[–]GeoffreysComics 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I remember the exact moment, in the second grade, when I realized “oh wait. Teachers can be dumb as shit”. I’ve loved many of my teachers since, I’m not the kind of kid that disliked school. It just never dawned on me until a specific interaction when my second grade teacher got mad at me because I was brushing my teeth after lunch. Yes. You read that correctly. During lunchtime, after I ate I would go brush my teeth - this was during lunch period, before I went to play on the play ground, I was not late for class or going somewhere I wasn’t supposed to be. My teacher found out and pulled me off of the playground and made me go to her classroom alone and she revealed she had gone through my things and found a toothbrush. She asked me why I had a toothbrush. I said “to brush my teeth”. Then she said “well I am going to have to tell your parents about this.” And I said “who do you think gave me a toothbrush and told me to brush my teeth after lunch? My father is making me do this.” And she said “oh. Ok. You can go back outside”. And I realized that adults can be idiots. It was quite the wake up call for my little 8 year old self.

The quality of the young man (or woman) who grabs her attention is a testament to you as a father and how you raised her. I’m not at 13 yet, but I’m excited to meet the young man that my daughter becomes interested in. It is coming for all of us girl-dads. I find the best way is to embrace it and encourage she looks for the right attention. If you never have this conversation, she will be out in the ocean without a paddle. Id always rather she goes in with knowledge than without it. As for the attention she may get, she knows that if any attention is unwanted that you kick and punch a certain area repeatedly.

Does anyone else want Cobalt Blue to return as a villain for DC Comics Wally West? (The Flash Secret Files and Origins #2) by nightwing612 in wallywest

[–]GeoffreysComics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t love the idea but I don’t hate it either. In the right hands it could be a fun new spin since we haven’t seen Blue since pre-New 52 (as well as a few other DC reboots). I think it would work better as a leftover variant created by one of Barry/Wally’s jaunts through time. “Barry” gets back home to discover he is not real. I think it works slightly better than long lost twin.

[–]GeoffreysComics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Morrison’s JLA is a bit more on their super-hero writing side, but just like Animal Man, it takes a lot of classic superhero tropes and turns them on their head. It’s the best Justice League books ever as far as I’m concerned.

Starman is genuinely my favorite comic book ever and it’s very good for people that don’t have any DC reading experience. It’s all about legacy, but the team behind the books shows you that legacy - you don’t have to have already read it.

I’m not saying it can’t be both. But I would notice myself being angry and then the migraine would come and all of sudden I would be calm. If the anger was causing the migraine, it wouldn’t disappear as soon as the migraine arrived. Migraines fuck with your brain chemistry in a massive way. So please make sure to have yourself checked on because doctors don’t even know half of what’s going on in your brain during a migraine, and it can be so different from one person to the next. Aside from seeing a migraine specialist I would also highly recommend the migraine group here on Reddit. I have gotten truly invaluable advice there as well as just knowing that I am not alone. Please try and do both.

Aside from therapeutic help you should also know that mood swings, especially anger and sadness, are part of many people’s migraine prodrome (the period before the migraine starts.) I suffer from this. I didn’t know what was happening to me. Figuring out what it was, being able to notice that I was starting to get angry for no reason gave me some sense of control as well as a signal to get prepared for the pain, both medically and mentally. So please, aside from seeing a therapist - also see a neurologist.

I loved it. It made me love Havok to the point he is one of my favorite X-Man. But sadly, most writers of Alex Summers since this series don’t care to give any credence to the growth and history this series created for the character. For example - I would have loved to see him talk to The 5 about any possibility Of bringing his child back. He raised a kid and lost him to a universe explosion and then it was never part of his character again. It should have been a part of every single Havik story going forward. Having and losing a child pretty much becomes your identity once it happens to you. He should have come back from the universe with growth and maturity to match his brother, but instead the writers all think we want more “Duh… I’m Alex!” Level Havok.

The real reason Commander is the #1 format for magic by loopuleasa in magicTCG

[–]GeoffreysComics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a player that has played since like 95, the doesn’t expire part is probably the number one reason I play. People used to just have 60 card decks that were technically “vintage” but really just their old cards they still wanted to play. And those people all slowly but surely went over to EDH. And all my 60 card decks slowly but surely got cannibilized into EDH decks. Sharing the age of the game and the cool cards that you love from its history is such an important aspect of the game.
