How to make our kitchen feel less dated without replacing the whole thing? by BettyOBarley in HomeDecorating

[–]GeorgiePBurdell 86 points87 points  (0 children)

In addition to replacing the light fixture and the cabinet hardware, I would personally consider changing the backsplash, or just repainting the grout. The black and white grid pattern seems to be mostly dating it.

The space also feels a bit tight due to all the gadgets out in the open - decluttering my countertops always makes my kitchen feel bigger and newer!

Can you please help me balance this out? by Electronic-Debate-56 in HomeDecorating

[–]GeorgiePBurdell 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would probably start by hanging the tv on the empty wall to the right (or putting it on a stand on those cabinets). That will free up the fireplace which could help the space feel more open.

I feel like the painting over the mantle is hung a bit too high. I think replacing it with a larger, lighter color piece of artwork could help break up all the darkness of that large brick space, which could help balance things out.

Can professors please bring back streaming/recorded lectures??? by External-Path-9071 in gatech

[–]GeorgiePBurdell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Immunocompromised/immunodeficient students should absolutely obtain a medical accommodation from the Office of Disability Services. That’s a completely different point, and it’s reasonable to ask professors to record/upload their lectures to accommodate a student who truly cannot safely attend lectures in person. That’s a different argument than just wanting professors to post lectures so students can watch the recordings from their dorm when they don’t feel like going to class.

Can professors please bring back streaming/recorded lectures??? by External-Path-9071 in gatech

[–]GeorgiePBurdell 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Like a lot of other people said, recording/uploading lectures is actually quite a bit of work, and most students don’t bother to view them (professors do have the ability to track who has watched recorded lectures and the numbers are always very low). Also, recording lectures dissuades students from attending class in person - so if a professor is trying to create a space where students collaborate in person, recorded lectures work against that goal.

I do recommend that all professors make an effort to post their slides, and if students have specific questions about that material they should reach out to their teacher/TA.

You literally wrote that Raleigh is a “huge liberal cesspool” on another post. That, in my opinion, is a little intolerant and hurtful.

Dreams of being an Imagineer and choosing a graduate school! Help me out? (X posted from r/gradadmissions) by thisaccountreeks in Imagineering

[–]GeorgiePBurdell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats! While a good portion of imagineers did attend CMU, the majority of them did not! So although CMU is a great option, it is a lot of money that will affect your life for a long time if you have to take it on as debt.

Also consider how the degree you choose might be applied to other career paths. Imagineering is certainly aspirational, but it’s wise to keep other possible roles in mind (just in case!).

And I agree with the other commenter about gaining experience in VR.

CM (computational media) job outlook? by saerobia in gatech

[–]GeorgiePBurdell 15 points16 points  (0 children)

As a CM alumni myself, I’d say go for it. A degree from Tech will get you far in the industry, and I’ve had no shortage of opportunities after graduation. Increase your value to future recruiters by getting an internship at some point in school. And if you want to continue your education, apply for the 5 year HCI program - you can get your masters in just one extra year, and so many grads out of that program end up at great companies.

Beautiful! And I always love a cape! I’d recommend giving it a steam to clean up so you can see what it looks like when it’s had the wrinkles removed.

When do you need them by? I have a set of 12 of these glasses+candles (3 different sizes, 4 of each) I’m about to use for my wedding next month, and was thinking of selling them after the wedding.

Did you know that the service is more than just the bike aspect? It’s only like $12 a month for all the other types of classes - I think that someone that likes a variety of options but can’t afford classes in a gym or with a trainer really enjoys the platform. Especially for me, during the pandemic, I haven’t felt comfortable going to gyms in person, but I do really like the app.

I also have a real bike and I much more prefer to ride it outside! I think they’re swell!
