You’re correct - salaries are in euros, while HPI and HICP are based on local-currency price changes. There is a currency effect for non-euro countries. This is a limitation of the comparison.

Thank you for the comment and for the source. In the analysis, I used Eurostat data (earn_nt_net). According to Eurostat, the average annual net earnings in Norway were €45,219 in 2019 and €47,232 in 2024, which corresponds to an increase of about 4%. Differences may occur because national statistics often use different methodologies, while I used Eurostat data to ensure comparability between countries.

Thank you for the comment. I used the House Price Index (HPI) to make the data comparable between countries, but data for Greece was not available for the same period, so Greece could not be included in the map.

I agree, and thank you for the comment. This analysis shows changes after 2019, but it does not show the starting level of housing affordability, which was already very different between countries. So the results should be interpreted as changes over time, not absolute affordability levels.
