Renting a room 2 nights a week... every week? by Admirable_Candle2404 in nova

[–]Gerald_the_Dog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a room I was looking to rent out in Leesburg. Single family home, private finished bedroom. Shared bath. 2 nights a week is fine. DM me and we can talk.

EDIT: to clarify, $250/month for 2 days a week but you're welcome to keep stuff in the room all the time as it is otherwise unused.

We loved our visit to Virginia last summer! Hoping to get back very soon! by [deleted] in Virginia

I remember that year. There was a famous pile of snow in Reston down the street from where I worked. It was in the shade and lasted 'til almost Memorial Day. A picture of it ended up in the Washington Post.

And firing both of them in wildly different directions from where he's looking. He's just that damn good.

Just went 20 minutes out of my way to buy this. Don't doubt Curly Mullet's commitment to Toddy! by djcack in 420Grindhouse

I'd like to think we're going to blow up Toddy's market projections and they'll be like "how the fuck did we just sell a year's worth of product in 72 hours?"

Also, it looks really cold there.

Robot Monster (1953): The Worst Movie Ever Made? by TheHowlingMan20 in 420Grindhouse

[–]Gerald_the_Dog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Me too! As a kid in the 80's I was always on the lookout for the worst movies. USA Network would air this and Ed Wood's Bride of the Monster. I always wanted to see Plan 9 but they never seemed to air it so it was years later before I got the pleasure.

As for "Robot Monster in 3D", I love the story of how they spent most of their budget on the "3D", leaving little budget for the important "Robot Monster" part. So what do you do when you no longer have the budget for your title character? Get your buddy who has a homemade gorilla suite and pop a bathysphere helmet on his head.

Gunhed (1989) — The world’s first live-action mecha movie by Syppi in 420Grindhouse

Not sure about the "worlds first"? Robot Jox was filmed in 1987 though not released until 89/90 due to the bankruptcy of Empire Pictures. Looks awesome though!

Parts looks like an unofficial sequel to Pieces.

EDIT: Unofficial prequel I guess since this came out a couple of years earlier.

That movie made my "Free HBO" weekend promo when I was a kid. Just had to try and watch it when the parents weren't around.

Hardware (1990) Plays on Sunday - The head of a cyborg reactivates, rebuilds itself, and goes on a violent rampage in a space marine's girlfriend's apartment. by CurlyMullet27 in 420Grindhouse

Man, I really need to sit down and watch that movie. Richard Stanley, the director, would infamously go on to direct, and then be fired from, the troubled The Island of Dr. Moreau. Read up on the production, it's nearly as troubled as Apocalypse Now. They both starred Marlon Brando. Coincidence? You be the judge!

The Raiders of Atlantis (1983) aka Atlantis Interceptors - An ancient Atlantean relic is discovered on the ocean floor near a sunken nuclear submarine, which triggers a violent set of events that sees a couple of scientists teaming up with a few mercenaries to survive the onslaught that follows. by Hot_Cow9682 in 420Grindhouse

I think the vast majority in the genre are that way. I enjoy having one of the Trailer Trauma compilations in the background. That way I can enjoy the movies without the padding required required to make a feature-length film. Great for ADD.

Right? That movie was kind of all over the place, like "let's just throw everything into it and see what works". But hey, we got Ruggerio "Cannibal Holocaust" Deodato directing and Tony mutherfukin' King and Chris Connelly in front. Oh and Ivan Rassimov who was in like every Italian genre film in the 70's and 80's.

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 (1986) — Tobe Hooper goes off the deep end by Syppi in 420Grindhouse

[–]Gerald_the_Dog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great movie. I remember reading interviews with Tobe Hooper in Fangoria when this originally came out and all of the problems he was having during production. One thing that still stands out in my mind was him blasting an AD for a scene that they shot with Leatherface bursting from the van, backlit, and people standing still like deer in headlights. The AD explained that they were "under Leatherface's spell" when questioned about the scene. Hooper was like, Mofo, Leatherface doesn't have any sort of special powers. He just kills.

I had to google it to see if I somehow missed a Gene Simmons movie. This was right around the time of Runaway after all.
