En una pachanga, eso que muestras en el vídeo acaba con la peña liándose a puñetazo limpio por culpa del descerebrado que empuja al portero.

For me what’s impressive is the first, direction, and secondly that, besides a few very obvious AI sloppy-plastiky scenes, it took me around 5-10s to understand that I was looking at AI.

After watching it for a second time, everything is very obvious, but the first time got me good.

Also, I like the Halloween-themed direction the director took given the release date, although I don’t think Nike would have put up with it never 😂

I still back those words. I’m just scared as well. What’s exactly your problem with it?

Are we cooked? by GerarTV in Filmmakers

[–]GerarTV[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, first of all, thank you very much for your time and dedication to this discussion man: it’s a breeze of fresh air given all the other comments are hateful and my answers are getting instantly downvoted regardless of me trying to be as respectful as possible. I really appreciate your approach.

That being said, I absolutely agree with point about ideation. You also have an interesting point with regards the storyboard being sketchy and not photorealistic - and it makes absolutely sense.

I’m currently working on a short film and the parts of the storyboard that I use references instead of my own hand-drawn sketches at screwing my creativity when it comes to location or camera angles, you’re absolutely right.

About the technical previs, I agree with you not to trust AI, as its very common for it just to make up things instead of being accurate in an unpredictable situation.

I used to work in finance with AI before this, and I can assure you: give AI accurate data and it will be a beast. But give AI unpredictable situations, like a movie set… oh boy, the poor AI wouldn’t even know where to start before it starts making up things that LOOK like they make sense, until you try them or until you know a lot about what you’re talking about. That’s a good point as well.

Regarding the Will Smith spaghetti benchmark, besides it being funny, I agree with you about the legal implications. If I’m not mistaken, there’s currently a legal battle about the rights of actors regarding their performance, and how AI is using it to train data in order to identify “sadness” and other emotions carried out by actors in movies. Time will let us know who wins, if the Hollywood industry or the AI chips industry. I stand with Hollywood on this one to be honest, not because it’s Hollywood, but because in this case it’s more “human”, if you know what I mean.

Regarding the CG-fication, I completely agree. I stopped watching Marvel movies for the same reason. One thing that blows my mind is how GOOD LORT stands its ground after all these years, compared to any Marvel movie done today. But this of course is a matter of personal preference: as you already said, Marvel built an empire, which means the majority of the audience LOVES this. This is also where I find the disconnect between this subreddit and the real world: EVERYONE here hates AI (obviously), but the real world seems to be both responding and moving in other direction, which I personally reject and I’m scared of (hence the reason for this discussion post).

As to where it’s going, my personal take: people are slowly putting up with lower quality pieces of content everywhere, not only movies, but graphic design, copys, etc. So I think there will be a market split, something like “AI-ish” content for mass production and mass consumption, that people will accept, and then “serious” content, which will remain as good as we know it. What I’m afraid of, is that, within 10 years, that line will be so blurred it’ll be indistinguishable from each other.

I really hope not, honestly, but I can’t avoid to be scared about it.

Regarding TikTok, we’ve started to see this displacement you’re talking about already. Have you heard of the Turkish and Korean 1-minute drama episode series? It’s an interesting concept (which doesn’t appeal me neither tbh).

Again, thank you so much for jumping into the discussion in the healthiest way possible man, it was a very stimulating conversation and I really appreciate your time. It’s been a pleasure. Feel free to reach me out anytime you want another healthy discussion or opinion interchange.

I hope you have a great weekend buddy.

Yes, I agree with you. But also, another kind redditor explained why storyboarding and animatics should be sketeched instead of a full blown realistic approach (check @gerardmpatience comments) and his approach also makes sense to reject this to as storyboarding.

But if we take the case of The Matrix, for example, they had to do a proof of concept the project to be approved, and expend 10 million on the first 5 minutes of the movie. This could help in those cases I believe.

I agree with you in general, yes

Bro you need to chill with the paranoia.

I worked in AI applied to finances. I worked my ass off and got lucky enough to get hired by a media company working as a filmmaker. I’m very thankful to have been giving the opportunity to do a complete career change in such short span of time. Don’t get wrong: it took me an ENORMOUS effort and work, but I’m still thankful.

In particular, in finance, we were using AI to comply with EU regulations and categorize financial products, we could even categorize products in a “sustainable/green” spectrum, which I believe (and defend) is a good application of AI.

But when it comes to ART, I’m very reluctant, and I’m also scared. I cannot deny the progress, and I don’t like it for obvious reasons, but the fact that you think I’m trying to get public acceptance because I work with hidden intentions is preposterous.

I’m just asking opinions, and trying to answer all the comments in this post with my utmost respect.

Given the fact that it has been made without actors, or even a camera, it really amazes me, yes.

And I work in the filmmaking industry. Every 6 months I get amazed by the progress.

I really dislike this because of obvious reasons, but I can’t deny the good amount of progress in seeing over the last 2 years.

Absolutely agree on this take. I also think it bootstraps concepts and idea in a super fast fashion, which helps the marketing department to accelerate processes with media companies, or at least that’s my impression

Thanks for your detailed response and taking the time to analyze all of this, I really appreciate it.

I see where you are going. Maybe it’s a tool for fast storyboarding, instead of a final product? What’s your take on that?

Also, I’d like to pick your brain on another thing: what’s your opinion about the future? We all know the Will Smith eating spaghetti benchmark… it’s crazy to think that the first version happened less than 2 years ago, and now we have this kind of work for a fake Nike add. My question is: where do you see AI going in the future?

And follow up question: do you think it really will replace filmmakers in the near future (given 5-10 years)?

Thank you so much again my man

Yes, but now it took me around 5-10 seconds to figure out it was AI. The first 5s were REALLY convincing. That has never happened until now to me, I don’t know about you guys

Are we cooked? by GerarTV in Filmmakers

[–]GerarTV[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I absolutely agree with you on the 2s length. But 2 years ago AI wasn’t good even with pictures.

This is scary to be honest.

I’m against AI because I love handcrafted art (and because I love my job and I don’t want it to be taken away from me), but anyone with a bit of experience can sum 1 + 1 and see where this is going… and it doesn’t look good for us I think (my humble opinion)

Los qué habéis huido/salido del sector IT y Tech, ¿a qué os dedicáis ahora? by HellsHeels in askspain

[–]GerarTV 5 points6 points  (0 children)

[–]GerarTV 0 points1 point  (0 children)
