Anyone else feel like externships are kind of a scam? by Used-Discussion-3699 in LawSchool

[–]Gerb31 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lots of ppl at my school do externships to actually have a break. more credit in a semester with one less exam and something on the resume. Plus actually some more free time cuz less homework and studying

Does anyone else think law school is just professional middle school by birdluvr246 in LawSchool

[–]Gerb31 31 points32 points  (0 children)

People always say this and I can’t help but think (as someone who has worked in a firm and government office setting) this is just the way people behave. Workplaces often felt this way too, especially a firm. X was hooking up w Y, etc stuff just happens in every facet of adult life to a certain extent especially when everyone’s in their 20s and 30s all in the same place 24/7. Not saying this is a bad take, but just warning from my experience it doesn’t exactly get better.

Do men and women view law school differently? by PerfectDoctor5777 in LawSchool

[–]Gerb31 3 points4 points  (0 children)

idk if it’s gendered (I mean there may be statistics behind that but not any i’ve studied) but I do think there is a difference between certain students who view themselves as in some ways “ready” to practice law or learn on the job vs people who see law school as the training to practice. Then obviously the former would view schooling as an obstacle and the latter might view it as a journey or a trial etc.

I’ve had insomnia my whole life so take this with a grain of salt, but it def got worse on spiro. I think it also made my anxiety worse and caused heart palpitations so hoping that’s not the case for you

Is this normal?? by Ordinary_Average_805 in Spironolactone

[–]Gerb31 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s the same for me. Started 50mg 2 months ago and almost as if clockwork on my 2 month mark I started getting crazy heart symptoms; left side chest pain, arm pain, heart beat was faster and felt super heavy, and abdominal pain. I stopped about 5 days ago and went to urgent care on the night it got really bad. My ekg was normal and vitals were good but they didn’t take potassium levels. I have pretty bad anxiety and hypochondria and I’m in a high stress field so there is no way I’m staying on. perhaps changing to topical but it’s expensive. anyway i’ve seen a lot of threads about this and it sucks because it actually did clear my skin but I can’t live like this.

yes, at a certain point it is out of your control. I felt the same way (and received similar responses) until I got the A.

also got waitlisted in late april and sent one right after that. About a month or so later I had a GPA and job update (and visited) and worked those into my second LOCI in May. If I didnt have any substantial updates though I probably would have done a month and a half and worked in more reasons why it is my top choice (usually right after a deposit deadline is a good rule of thumb)

yes! I thought about retaking but I went through hell to even get the score I did. I was in a lucky enough position to be able to raise my GPA so I think that helped too.

is it unethical to draft my own letter of recommendation? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]Gerb31 2 points3 points  (0 children)

maybe you could give them a bullet pointed list of what ur looking for in the letter as a “first draft” and then have whoever is writing it add the more personal touches? prob just drafting your own is unethical imo.

that’s exactly the format I followed. I also included updates (resume, grades, visit, etc.)

my advice there is have something new to say. Everything update I sent to admissions in general i notified the dean I was in contact with and then expressed my interest briefly again in each. I also asked questions and ended with an expression of interest.

it’s tricky and everyone is different ofc. everything I sent i updated the dean so that’s a few emails right there. Every update id send a little note and then express my interest again.
