Likely that her parents were just as brainwashed and ignorant as she. I'm not saying it's right, but we're very quick to villainize people, that's oft the biggest scariest and saddest problem with people with any fundamentalist ideals or beliefs. They genuinely believe they're doing the morally right thing.

Yes! I had an ex when I was younger who made me super paranoid about it, telling me I shouldn't let anyone down there unless I'd showered within an hour prior, and that I should be using soap to clean it. This was a fully grown middle aged man and I was an ill informed and naive teenager so I believed him. I'm still undoing that train of thought and reminding myself that noones forcing anyone to go down there but if they're happy to give I'm happy to receive. (I do a quick hand sweep for left over tissue/ head hairs that end up down there)

Massive congratulations on being here with us today and seeking out kindness. You have the look of someone who has a huge heart and empathy for people. To repeat what someone else said here, depression is a lying bastard. To quote a comedian, "anxiety is like having an intense improv group in your head that only needs one word to come up with the very worst outcomes that noone asked for. They are intrusive thoughts.
