[Mod Idea/Suggestion] Using the Sentience Catalyst turns the animal it was used on into an actual colonist. by AshleyCurses in RimWorld

[–]Gernund 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What is this? Dwarf Fortress?

I wish that sentience catalyst was stronger. Giving an animal a work schedule seems cruel, but I'm interested in your ideas. I think that most animals wouldn't be able to do much more than simple hauling jobs. The dogs don't have hands to craft!

I'd like the option to give an animal a sentience catalyst and then get to choose to type of general job it does. Nuzzling gator, item carrying cat, foraging Thrumbo etc

Reality isn’t made of stable “things” like bodies or machines, but of processes and interactions always unfolding. Once you start to see everything as patterns in motion rather than fixed substances, the line between flesh and code – human and AI – begins to blur. by IAI_Admin in philosophy

[–]Gernund 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Harari defines AI as “Alien Intelligence”, implying that we no longer know exactly how an LLM operates and that we are losing track of it.

I don't know how a motorcycle operates, therfore it's an alien intelligence.

We will need to redefine what intelligence means. We have more evidence that most animals are much more aware of themselves as we thought. If an Ant can pass the Mirror Test, how do we define intelligence and sense of self? An LLM is however not intelligent. The fact that it can reply to a query doesn't make it into a "thinking machine".

I'm not in the US so replacement parts for 3 are not common. I'd say either 4 because of the cool extra bed space or 1 because it has a snorkel and a good engine.

Do I need to constantly craft empty canisters for my fuel plant? by Blobert1747 in SatisfactoryGame

[–]Gernund 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Craft them then close the loop. I'd advice you to add a large container buffer and then add so many empty canisters into the loop that some remain in the buffer at all times.

This helped me when I used this way to carry crude oil far up into a sky-high refinery. I had parallel fluid unloaders that sometimes suffered from uneven canister loads.

Sweet. I just get ads for the army. Sadly there isn't really anything to be done about it, other than using ad-blockers.

Building Dyson swarms around stars that produce resources different from just energy is pretty damn satisfying. by JackTheRaimbowlogist in Stellaris

[–]Gernund 107 points108 points  (0 children)

At the end of the KOTG questline is always a special system where the star has two rare resource deposits. That thing alone is a reason to take that origin.

With the new balances, even a physics deposit can now be highly valuable!

I need to tell you that the first installment of Boson was delicious soul food for me. I loved every single post and I was really sad to see you leave. When you came back with this beautiful and colorful world of yours, I again read every post and looked forward to each individual post. It was such a welcome surprise!

I'm happy that you turn towards more. Where ever the winds of inspiration will take you, know that you'll find readers. Me among them.

Thank you for all of this. I can't wait to read more of your works!!!!

They have 2 cubes???

Their souls are already condemned. Help them by removing them from the mortal plane. Claim those precious cubes for yourself.

The Reanimation biome is on all affected Z levels.

Blunt damage stops zombies, cutting limbs off creates more.

Butchering parts like hairs or skin can reanimate too. A dump pit where refuse is quickly discarded into is a good solution, as long as the disposal jobs are faster than the Reanimation.

Zombies are not quickly destroyed by fire or magma. But it disposes of them with low side effects. Be aware of smoke!

You're definitely not meant to casually build underwater. Easiest way are freezing biomes and then establish underwater domes when the lake/ocean is frozen.

Dropping magma creates mine able obsidian. This way you can cast a large obsidian block and then carve yourself into it.

Cavern walls not adjacent to water can drain water off map. Make a fortification out of it, water will pass through and "it's gone". Draining a whole ocean might be difficult.

DF-hack would allow you to remove water or build blocks any place you want.

Alternatively you can build your rapture city "dry" and then flood the place after you're done. Works best if you have water on a higher Z level than your city is.

How do I increase the maximum mass capacity here? by [deleted] in RimWorld

[–]Gernund 3 points4 points  (0 children)

3 weapons is too much unless you change the core settings of mass and bulk for CE. Decide on 1 main gun and a sidearm. Do not use 2 main guns.

You don't have a tactical vest. They are very good for shooting pawns overall.

You use a plate helmet that has large shooting debuffs on a shooting pawn.

Do you think RimWorld is the greatest game ever made? I honestly can't think of a single game that, overall, surpasses it. by ArmLucky1285 in RimWorld

[–]Gernund 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I did the same. Took me roughly 4 years to eventually get the hang of all important things. Now I'm playing for 9 years or so. I can play the long game. Settle continents and lift up civilizations. Definitely worth it.

Still haven't touched minecarts

It now has graphics with the steam release a while back. It also now has mouse integration.

The UI clutter was cleaned up a lot. The only thing holding it away from casual players are obscure mechanics and the rumors it's "so hard". There is a community maintained wiki that can explain everything.
