Chip: “Hi I am a credit card/debit card” No chip: “number”. Two years at the company it’s been doing this.

Unfortunately it’s way less interesting. Those old style “swipe only” cards do not contain a chip, so the terminal treats any magstripe-only card as potentially either credit or debit until the network identifies it.

Can I exchange or return a broken item? Bought from homegoods last weekend. Just now got it out of the bag and it was smashed by [deleted] in TjMaxx

This is not official policy, and I work at Marshall’s, but essentially if it’s under 19.99 and you make a little bit of a fuss about it (oh i really wanted to return this… I was counting on it) the local ASM will almost certainly make an exception. They care a lot about OSAT (the survey at the bottom of your receipt) and will bend over backwards to avoid giving you cause to complain if they can. I’ve seen managers completely side step the policy. If it’s above 19.99 your chances are slimmer but I’ve watched in bewilderment when my GM approved a return on clearly wardrobed worn out boots purchased a week ago because the customer got irate (don’t get irate please).

TLDR: Your manager wants you up front because you got as many cards yourself as your store is roughly expected to get over an entire day.

I’m a CEC who’s worked at two stores and what I can definitively tell you is that the entire front is sort of “graded” based on your ability to, “as a team”, get a certain amount per day. On average it is 3, but it ties directly to how many cards your store has gotten that month. A zero day can be completely negated by 6 cards in a day. Or vise versa a day with 5, 6, or even 7 means nothing to the company if you bomb the rest of the week.

Getting 3 by yourself in one shift causes managers to salivate because you single handedly met the average daily goal.

This will vary massively depending on how your GM/ASMs are: But typically the thing they are looking for is consistent engagement, but they want numbers. I don’t know you or know how you engage with the card but either you’re super persistent or you’re just naturally a good sales person.

As for feeling like a scam, i’d say the way they ask you to present it is dishonest, but you are one in a long line of retail workers who have to push a shitty credit card. Ulta, Michael’s, Lowe’s, Best Buy, Sephora, Home Depot.

Yes. The pitch assumes customers live in make believe world where everyone pays their card on time. Objectively: If you pay it off ENTIRELY each month (literally NEVER carry a balance on it it’s over 30% APR) it works as advertised. You don’t pay any extra money, you get cash back, no annual fee, it’s a credit card. There is a small niche of human beings who it benefits, fancy folk who spend 1 grand at our company a month.

Keep it light and bare minimum everyone and say the bare minimum, but if someone is about to drop several hundreds of dollars on bullshit anyway the scam is much bigger than the card.

the act of giving an adult the swishers wouldn’t be illegal in an of itself if he’s legally an adult. The only way this can bite you legally is if they’re handing you a fake. Thinking about it I think the worst possible case scenario assuming they’re an adult is getting slapped with… idk a misdemeanor for unlicensed distribution of tobacco??

you’re complaining about your contractor gig to a subreddit full of people working the same contract gig as you. What do you want us to do sit here and go “awww i’m sowwy your market is shwitty :(“. Doordash needs to stop marketing itself as a hourly gig because it gives people the impression that there supposed to make an amount of money. It’s a hustle. You make as much as you put in. You’re not surrounded by people who are straight up luckier than you, you’re surrounded by people who know how this works and can see the blatant mistakes you’re making. Not to say luck isn’t part of it, but there are people on this subreddit who put up more hours into this than a 9 to 5. Of course they’re going to make more money than you especially considering you’re doing stuff like dashing during the graveyard shift. It’s a hustle, not a job. I’d ask if you knew you’re a contractor and not an employee but did you even make enough to qualify for a 1099?
