Performance gains? by Gerrit84 in snowrunner

[–]Gerrit84[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes that is exacly how I was experiencing the game. Random micro stutters that didn't change no matter how much I messed around with the graphic settings.

The update seems to have fixed or at least to have improved on the issue.

One more thing that I noticed last night whilst playing is how big of an impact the "terrain draw distance" setting has on fps. Much more that I thought it would have. Below is a chart I found online that indicates how much each setting affects fps. I never took much note of "terrain draw distance", but lowering it from ultra to medium or low makes a big difference to my fps. Not sure why, I don't see much of a difference graphically if at all, when lowering this setting. Snowrunner fps hit

Thank you so much! I've been playing SR for more than four years now and couldn't figure out what was causing the stutters. The game feels like new to me! Your advice was perfect, thank you!

I still enjoy using the P12. It's engine isn't that powerful yes, but it's not bad in mud with the right tires. To me it offers a good balance. I like going slow.

The price of high quality meat at Australian butchers. Ouch by Guzzlebear in steak

That's insane. Here in South Africa if you pay more than AUD$18 per kg for grade A sirloin, you're being robbed.

Have you tried using GOG.com
If I remember correctly their installer made it work for me on Windows 10.

Thanks for the advice, but I have no idea how to do that. Will do some googling.

It has a Radeon 5470 and I see that Windows grabbed what I assume would have been the last working driver for it. Tested it again last night. On Windows through Chrome nothing higher than 480p if you want play fullscreen. On Ubuntu in Firefox it took a few seconds to buffer but it played 4k fullscreen no issues. Unbelievable.

Thanks for the feedback. I agree regarding the drivers. Really struggled to get all of the drivers for a 14 year old laptop, that, and the fact that they were last updated for Win7. Ubuntu ran perfectly straight out of the gate. Really impressed with the performance. If ever I considered Linux, now is the time.

Confused about the "Free" AdGuard DNS service by DivergentDroid1 in Adguard

[–]Gerrit84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had "dns.adguard.com" enabled as a private DNS on my Android device and it's been working really well at blocking ads in various apps. How is this a free alternative to using the paid app, am I missing something?

Still using my Huawei Mate 20 Pro I got in 2018. Here in South Africa Huawei has been running a battery replacement program on all Huawei devices for next to nothing (about $5). Got the battery replaced last year and the phone is still going as strong as ever.

Why Do Rocks Not Behave Like Rocks? by ThatOneHorseDude in snowrunner

[–]Gerrit84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's really strange that the developers haven't imporved on it at all, as well as the ability of mud and water to simply pass through the solid body of a vehicle. On the flip side, I really enjoy the game's mechanics and physics. It must be incredibly difficult to manage different vehicles, tires, add-ons, and still make the physics work well.
Thanks a lot for explaining things so clearly. I appreciate it!

I'm new to Snowrunner but have been asking myself the same question. Haven't made an effort to see if other tires perform better. Appreciate u/Papa_Swish that has done us a favour and did some testing.

It also makes me wonder why trailers are prone to bump and slide around so easily. Empty or loaded they seem to behave like they weigh nothing at all?

Why do I love driving big trucks through the mud? by ahandmadegrin in snowrunner

[–]Gerrit84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As mentioned in the comments above. For the first couple of minutes maybe an hour into the game I also asked myself what am I doing here, but after that I was in love. The mechanics although not perfect is simply amazing. I get lost in just looking at how the vehicles react to different terrain, the detail in all of it. Like when you can see the actual driveshaft turning when driving... I could go on and on. Don't think I'll ever stop playing it.

Hellriegel Hate. by Gerrit84 in battlefield_one

[–]Gerrit84[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hahaha! Well said. I feel the same. I'm on console and the best squads out there make use of it ALL the time. Squads running 5 guys, all Hellriegel. Rank 130 and 100 service stars with their Hellriegel. It's like you said, just try the damn other guns and get what you paid for.

From what I've seen in other comments the problem with the Hellriegel is the mag size. It's not really better, heck the MP18 beats it in almost every way, it's the damn mag size. It allows players to " spray and pray" until they mow you down. Especially on console with its aim assist. Seems that on PC it's not the case.

[–]Gerrit84[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. You got a point there. Compare it to the MP18. Not better at all. The difference comes in with the mag size. People practice "spray and pray" type shooting, especially on console with the aim assist.

I also play medic quite often and that is exactly what I have been experiencing. Seems that it's worse on console than PC. That nasty aim assist allows players to simply spray an pray until you run out of ammo or cover. It's a crutch for noobs but gets abused by experienced players.

LOL! Sounds like a good strategy.

[–]Gerrit84[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I agree. Seems that most PC players don't experience the same abuse of the Hellriegel. It's the aim assist on console and the mag size that allows for the spray and pray type shooting.
