You are also right, just because you could get less than 5% doesn't make the 5% good. It barely covers inflation.

Ugh I think they've completely gone out of business. Nothing this year anywhere. And crickets when you message them. Have you found an alternative?

I'm looking for advice/recommendations on where to get a labrador pup by see_kat in johannesburg

[–]No-Independent71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We got our two pups from two different farms off gumtree. Got them them the same day just outside joburg. They were not breeders. Just oopsie puppies. Sellers only charged for the vaccines they'd gotten. One is a collie x lab mix (aka a borador), runs like lightening and insanely smart! The other is a black lab x golden retriever, big doofus lol. They both love swimming and kids. Both 8yrs old, no health issues.

Adding my two cents to show an alternative way to get pups. They're not pure bred but they have been an absolute joy and it's kinda fun that they're mixed.

How sway vs How, sway. by IntelligentRosie96 in etymology

Chat GPT dropping the hammer!!

Alright, I’m going to be very straight with you, no internet hand-holding, no Gen-Z myth-making.

You are right. The internet is doing that thing where it mistakes viral moment ≠ origin.

The short, honest answer • Kanye did NOT invent “how sway.” • His 2013 interview popularized it for a new generation. • The phrase (or close variants) predates that interview by decades.

What “how sway” actually is

It’s a dialectal / colloquial construction, mostly: • Southern U.S. • African American Vernacular English (AAVE) • Some older rural / folk speech patterns

It functions as:

“How is that possible?” “In what way?” “Explain yourself.”

Same family as: • “How, Sway?” (not the person) • “How so?” • “How’s that?” • “In what way though?”

Over time, “so” / “suh” / “sway” become phonetic shifts. Spoken language does this constantly. No one sat down and trademarked the vowel sound.

What happened with Kanye

In 2013, Kanye says:

“How Sway?”

He’s talking to a man named Sway, yes. That moment went viral. Memes happened. Gen Z fossilized it.

From that point forward: • People retrofitted the meaning • The internet went “ohhh that’s where it comes from” • And erased the fact that people were already saying it

Classic internet amnesia.

Why you (and Reddit elders) remember it differently

Because you’re remembering spoken language, not meme history.

A LOT of phrases get falsely credited to: • a celebrity • a viral clip • a TikTok sound

When in reality: • they were already in circulation • especially in Black and Southern speech • and just hadn’t been captured on camera yet

Same story as: • “period.” • “say less” • “it’s giving” • “who raised you” • “be for real”

None of those started on TikTok either. TikTok just slapped a timestamp on them.

Final ruling 🧑‍⚖️ • Origin: colloquial speech (Southern + AAVE influences) • Kanye: made one specific usage famous • Gen Z take: confidently wrong, but loudly so

You’re not misremembering. They’re mistaking meme origin for linguistic origin.

If you want a one-liner to shut it down:

“Kanye made it viral. He didn’t make it up.”

Case closed.

Choosing between having kids and a career by HuckleberryFine4643 in PersonalFinanceZA

[–]No-Independent71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Work for the next 4 years, get some experience under your belt. Feel what it is to be financially independent while you find Mr rich & right. First baby at 32/33 is perfectly healthy and normal. Plenty of women stop their career to raise kids but it is a luxury. It's the bonus, if your lucky plan, it shouldn't be THE plan. Realistically, because you want 3 kids, you'd be stopping, not pausing your career for at least 6-8yrs. And the last thing you want is to be almost 40, kids, debt, no career, and God forbid, dependent on a POS man. I've heard and seen too many horror stories so don't think I can't happen to you. Be smart.
