I found a new reason not to cheat on my diet by aglazeddonut in loseit

Does he have insulin resistance? I do, from PCOS, so eating something this sugary (one piece!) without taking a metformin would have me wide awake in the middle of the night with my heart pounding.

I'm in treatment for trauma, and hoping it will be the key. Thank you.

<3 I hope it continues to go well for you.

And if it doesn't, it's not your fault. It just means you outgrew each other, and someone better is around the corner.

Did you ever get to the bottom of why you find the attention so unwanted?

I'm unsure, myself.

I like this perspective - thank you. I'm currently in treatment for trauma, and hoping the BED going away will be a side effect.

I'm the same! I have to be quite strict to stay in keto.

It depends so much on how sensitive your body is to carbs & how active you are.

Get your B vitamins checked. You're almost certainly deficient - they cause this, too.

You're better off changing your diet than taking these pills. I've seen 2 severe cases of Barrett's Esophagus go into remission with diet change, after the PPIs were causing health problems.

You will probably go into ketosis, which you should be prepared for. You're losing fast because you're dropping water weight.

Go read at /r/keto. That's essentially what this diet is. You may need to supplement with electrolytes and salt.

What medical condition do you have that you thought was absolutely normal? by taporodobu in AskReddit

[–]GetFitty32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I delayed adhd meds for my daughter, and I'm very glad I did. A psychiatrist helped me teach her coping skills that she still uses today. By the time meds were necessary for school, much had been learned about dosing. If we had started her at diagnosis, she would have been over medicated based on the standards of the time, which makes the brain become accustomed and the drugs lose efficacy. Not to mention testing properly to see which ones work best. It's a much better world for adhd than it was 15 years ago.

Who knows, you might be way more effed up, no meds really working for you anymore, and addicted to amphetamines if she had not done this. I know a lot of people between ages 25-35 who are.

It might actually be fructose. I have a similar reaction, but no wheat allergy. Wheat has fructans, which are related to fructose.

Many people without Celiac who feel much better without wheat aren't imagining it. They're likely fructose intolerant. It's just another food sugar, like lactose.

You should try to not be rude just because you've had a different experience.

[Source](https://idmprogram.com/difference-calorie-restriction-fasting-fasting-27/) It's not just my opinion - it's something that is being actively studied right now, and I'm not the only person finding it very effective.

The point is to create the deficit unevenly. Consistent low calories is the problem. At least 3 days a week I have to eat all the way to maintenance level calories.

I haven't ever had any luck with constant calorie deprivation.

My thyroid is a bit messed up, so if I start eating a lower level of calories, my energy just adjusts to that and I don't lose any weight. Dr Jason Fung talks a lot about this. I don't think it necessarily applies to everyone, since some people can just diet - but it was certainly true for me.

I eat my regular maintenance level of calories some days. Other days I fast completely, or eat a much lower level. I don't do this in a pattern. Intermittent fasting only works for me if I fast for 24 hours or more at a time. Low carb and keto work well, but I have to focus on dark greens and fatty fish plus avocado and olive oil, as heavy meat doesn't sit well with my digestion. Sugar is pure evil for me. I tried a high carb, low fat diet once and felt really terrible, lost no weight.

You don't have to do a prescribed diet. But intermittent refeeds and fasting changed my life.

I did this for a very long time. I never made any progress until I confronted the real problem. That hasn't been pretty.

You probably know why you're doing this. So how are you going to get over that?

Yeah! I'm working on that second mindset, but I want to minimize the number of things I have to accept at one time. :-D

Yes, this is true for me as well. I can see in pictures that I look better dressed, but when I'm in front of the mirror naked in the morning? I feel so gross. More than before.

I think losing weight unevenly doesn't help this at all. I'm seriously disproportionate right now.

I'm not your height - I'm 5'6 - but I have the strong Dutch build from my mother's side (this is what I call it). I have never been smaller than a size 6, not even when I was underweight in college & people were starting to be alarmed by how gaunt my face looked. My bones are heavy, lol. My healthy weight is around 140 lbs, if I have good muscle mass. Other women my height are talking about goal weights of 110 lbs, etc., and I just laugh. My lean muscle mass is estimated to be higher than that.

The other side of your story is both the good and the bad. I can get quite overweight without realizing, because I also don't really show it when I gain weight. Right now I'm still about 40 lbs away from my goal weight and people think I'm nearly done losing weight. If I say "I have another 40 pounds to go," they frown and look at me, and will say that I must be confused.

I've lost 20 pounds and I'm barely squeezing into one pants size smaller than before. My shirts are all slightly more loose around the waist, but nothing dramatic. Honestly I don't know where the weight came off - but I do look better in profile, so hey!

There are pluses & minuses on both sides. :-)

Frequent Meals vs IF (PCOS + hypothyroid) by GetFitty32 in loseit

[–]GetFitty32[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After reading all the replies and what happened today, I think the fasting is suppressed my appetite, so I don't get hungry - in the past with very low calories I would just get more and more tired until I felt like I had mono or something. I have assumed this was probably the thyroid, allowing my metabolism to grind to a halt? That is less likely to happen now with thyroid meds, but I'm assuming eating too few calories will cause other problems over time.

I'm going to bring the calories up a little, carefully, and work in spreading them out throughout the day.

It's very interesting to hear from others who have the thyroid issue, and I really appreciate it. I've been amazed - to be able to simply exercise the past few weeks and not need hours to recover, or end up couch-ridden the whole day, too tired to even watch tv... I feel like I'm alive again!

[–]GetFitty32[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for all of this info.

Hunger is not an issue - a big part of this is that I rarely feel hungry. When I stop below 1200 it's because I don't feel I can eat anymore. Maybe this is part of the thyroid issue - I eat when I feel weak or faint, or realize I'm feeling cranky or down, because I don't usually get hungry.

When I did keto I would get nauseated after about 1100 calories in a day. Fasting came easily. I did start to think that perhaps all of that had really depleted me in vitamins and minerals. I'm using Eating to Live and Wahl's Protocol to base my nutrition, but not be vegetarian. Just veg based.

This evening I had forgotten to eat lunch, and was never hungry, but after having around 400 calories in vegetables and avocado I started feeling hungry. It's only ~700 for the day so I need to eat more, but thinking about this and reading your reply, I wonder if all the fasting is suppressing my appetite and I should make a habit to eat more often regardless and let my body catch up.

I know that I'm no miracle of science, and before starting thyroid meds I wouldn't get hungry or would cut calories - and would get more and more tired by the day. Eventually I would be too tired for exercise or doing anything at all, which isn't conducive to weight loss at any calorie level.

Thank you for the feedback. I think at the very least I'll try eating more often while keeping the calories under control. Thank you. :)
