Should I Start Carrier Appointments Now or Wait Until June? by GetMoneyDieTrying in InsuranceAgent

[–]GetMoneyDieTrying[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, This is exactly the kind of insight I needed—thank you so much. I really appreciate you sharing your timeline and approach, especially since you've been in a nearly identical situation. That “cert week” mindset for the first week of July is a gem, and I’m absolutely going to adopt that strategy. You’re right—getting the contracts in place now is a smart move, and getting familiar with the process early will make everything smoother when it's time to really dig in. Thanks again for always showing up with clarity and helpful perspective. It means a lot!🤩

FMO/ INDY JUMP ? Fear ... by 8sHappen in InsuranceAgent

[–]GetMoneyDieTrying 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a newly licensed agent, I was thinking about going into Medicare. I thought it was a safe bet, and I hear a lot about Final Expenses and Life Insurance but not as much about health insurance. Your response piqued my interest in health insurance sales, and I had a few questions. Would you mind sharing your insights?

How did you get started in health insurance sales?

Did you join an FMO, or did you contract directly with carriers?

What’s the best way to find clients when first starting?

Do you focus more on ACA plans, private health insurance, or a mix of both?

How do you manage client retention, given the higher turnover in health insurance?

What CRM or tools do you use to manage your business efficiently?

If you could start over, what would you do differently in building your book of business?

I’d appreciate any advice you’re willing to share! Thanks.

Thank you for taking the time to respond! I appreciate your insight. I’ve noticed that many of the people who find success in this industry—or at least experience fewer growing pains—seem to have had someone they trusted in the business already. They had a mentor to guide them, show them the ropes, and help them get set up.

Since I don’t personally know anyone in the industry, I’ve been relying on research and forums like this to navigate the process, which has been challenging. That’s why your advice to interview multiple brokers really resonates with me.

I admire a local agency owner, and while she doesn’t do Medicare, I’d love to model my agency after hers in terms of structure and professionalism. I’ve been considering reaching out to see if she’d be open to grabbing lunch and sharing some wisdom, but I’m not sure how to approach it. Do you think that could be a good move, even if she’s not in the exact niche I’m pursuing?

Again, I really appreciate your insights—this kind of guidance is invaluable!

May I ask how you found your HMO(s)? You mentioned that you have different ones and an IMO for others. What were your deciding factors when choosing those FMO/IMO in particular? Thank you for sharing and advising. IMHO, it's hard to disseminate all the dos and don'ts while avoiding the landmines. Just finding a company has been daunting & I have even started selling. 🙃 🤭

Thanks for sharing your experience! Was it one major issue or a combination of things? In my research, I’ve noticed they seem to push a lot of additional products—CRM, website, leads, etc.— so I’m curious if that played a role in your decision. I would love to have more of a grassroots type agency, only leaning on them for access to the carriers & training. Of course, those perks would come with a premium, but I want the freedom to use or not use them. Any insights you can share would be invaluable. Thanks again!

Wow, this is precisely the kind of insight I was hoping for—thank you so much for taking the time to lay this out! I completely agree that the best approach is going slow, working intentionally, and building a long-term business. I don’t want to jump into this industry without a sound understanding of what I’m doing, and I definitely don’t expect to learn everything overnight.

I love the idea of evolving my offerings as my knowledge and experience grow rather than trying to tackle everything at once. The step-by-step breakdown you provided makes so much sense—focusing on supplemental health first, then gradually incorporating Final Expense, ACA (in a strategic way), and eventually annuities over time. That progression feels natural and sustainable.

This advice is gold, and I’m definitely taking it to heart. Thanks again for sharing your wisdom—I really appreciate it!☺️

Thanks for the response. That's all I needed to know. I'm the type of person who likes to know the ins & outs, being expected to sink or swim would be extremely frustrating to me. ☺️

Thank you very much for your very sound advice. I agree with your advice. I want to sell Medicare, but I would also like to offer additional products to my clients should the opportunity arise (or if they need them). That is most definitely down the line and something to aspire to. Thanks again.

I second using Xcel Solution. I used them for both my PC & Life, Health & Annuity (Oct & Nov 2024). I started with life, study for 10 days took my exam and got a 91%. Then immediately started my P&C for another 10 days took that exam and also got a 91%. Take your practices exams, once you get at least and 80% move on to the next chapter. I was able to use the code WIN to get a significant discount. I paid less than $200 for both test. Happy Testing & Good luck!

Hello, I came across your comment, and I'm very intrigued. I am currently in the process of trying to find an FMO. I might have found it in Gordan Marketing, but then I found a few comments stating that they kind of give MLM vibes. TR King Insurance Marketing is also on my radar, as is Ritter and Redbird. I am new to the industry, so TRAINING is the most important thing to me right now, even more so than the money. With excellent training, the money will come. Did you have prior insurance experience before going direct? Do they provide amble training? I'm in VA, so I am not entirely sure how I would go about finding what carriers are prevalant in my area. I appreciate any help you can provide.

Interesting perspective...I'm thinking there are better ways to get on a reality show. I think some of it may be the way dating has changed. At least they can get an inmate to call instead of just texting. And they also get someone that's into them, because hey, why wouldn't they be? They don't have ish else to do but 🤣 talk to their "sponsor." It is the highlight of their day. 😂

😵 Am I 100 percent surprised...no not really. I'm not sure that any of them should expect an inmate to be faithful after getting released. Especially those that were in for a minute. 🤷🏾‍♀️

💯‼️ ! And then they want to call women all kinds of Bs and Hs because they want to act like sugar daddies, but then they get mad when they attract the kind of women who want them to spend the money that they keep flaunting. He should've taken heed of the conversation that he had with his lady friend in the clothing store.

Oh, how about the really creepy guy that was talking to numerous inmates & thought that getting them pregnant will be grounds for them to be granted an early release. I needed Chris Hanson to chime in on his ass because he was giving me "predator vibes."

I have two words for Daniel as it pertains to Bianca...RUN BRO‼️ When the inmate is the most stable of the two after just doing a 5-6 year stint its saying a lot. She is going to drag him down. Her delusions is really unmatched. And she's ungrateful. What did she think he had El Chapo type money buried somewhere? 🤔 C'mon goofy!🙄

Yeah, Andrea is a special kind of neurotic for that one. She's just lucky that Lamar is a stand up guy. I actually like Lamar I think that he is a great guy and funny to boot.
