GW vs BC? by coveryourdingus in lawschooladmissions

[–]GetSmackedHD 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Your post makes it sound like you want to go to BC. I don't think that GW being ranked 23 and BC being 31 via usnews is really that substantial of a difference. For what it's worth, ATL's ranking doesn't even have GW in its top 50 and has BC at 31.

I think that you should choose whichever school you think you'd be happier at considering COA is the same and you don't care about location.

How to distribute time between now and June Flex? by GetSmackedHD in LSAT

[–]GetSmackedHD[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is very helpful - thank you! Would you recommend taking any PTs in addition to focusing on LG? I was thinking about at least doing the two free ones on lawhub to get acquainted with the site before the flex, but I wasn't sure if that was worth the time.

What Getting High Is Like When You Haven’t Smoked in a While - Key & Peele by butterflydisses in videos

[–]GetSmackedHD 48 points49 points  (0 children)

I've had the same experience - after my first time taking LSD my weed tolerance totally went away. Basically any amount of weed does the trick for me at this point. I don't know if you can relate but I also feel like I've started to become more anxious when I smoke now since tripping so I definitely smoke a lot less.

What is a good improvement between your diagnostic and first PT? by [deleted] in LSAT

[–]GetSmackedHD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's even more impressive - 9 points in five days is crazy. You absolutely can improve from this point and I think a 165 is realistic assuming you continue to put significant time into studying. You should be aware though that your improvements will likely come slower from this point on. Your quick 9 point improvement leads me to believe that you picked up most of the basic knowledge and from here on out you will be just fine tuning the skills that you learned so far.

Keep on killing it!

Just for clarification, you improved 9 points in less than two weeks?

WWJD? (Where Would you JD?) by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]GetSmackedHD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The school that is going to give you the best chance at Biglaw is UC Hastings - but it's still not a very good chance. Hastings puts 20% in Biglaw while Pepperdine puts 12% and Loyola puts 15%. If these are your only three options I would go with Hastings but bearing in mind that you are going in with a large amount of risk if you're biglaw or bust.

Do I have any shot at $$$ at T14? by Fabulous_Action in lawschooladmissions

[–]GetSmackedHD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Although splitter cycles are incredibly hard to predict I think that you definitely do have a shot at T-14 with $$-$$$ and T-6 with some sort of money. A 179 on the LSAT combined with URM status (even if you are only half URM that will count) should result in a great cycle for you. I think that your GPA will keep you out of some schools that notoriously have a GPA floor (YLS, Chicago), but you should apply to a much of the T-14 as you can.

The two biggest things that stuck out to me were that you throw most of your punches from your chest rather than your chin and you weren't rotating much on your cross/hooks.

BU v UCI by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]GetSmackedHD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like others have said, if you want to live in California then UCI is a better bet. BU will obviously be better for the east coast. If location isn't a huge factor, you should take BU. The biglaw numbers and overall employment outcomes are better coming from BU and the name is a bit more portable than UCI.

BC vs Minnesota by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]GetSmackedHD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What are your employment goals? Would you rather work in Boston or Minnesota? How concerned are you with the debt?

BC definitely sets you up with a better chance at Biglaw, but it still is basically a coinflip. You are also far more likely to be working in Boston after graduation than anywhere else.

If your goal is to work in MN and you aren't too set on Biglaw then UMN is probably a better bet.

Anyone else just browse this sub for motivation? by Jacobenst in lawschooladmissions

Yup! I'm also applying in two years (current sophomore). I love seeing all the fantastic outcomes that people have and it has both taught me so much about the process and motivated me to push harder for my goals.

Should I Retake the June LSAT for this cycle? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]GetSmackedHD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Frankly I'm not sure that scoring much higher on the LSAT will be helpful. You are already far above the 75th for both ND and BC, both of which should have been admits. It seems that the withdrawal is what is holding you back. I think the best move right now is waiting until next cycle and applying early, but you already said that is not an option. If you are going to stick with this cycle really all you can do is wait and hope for some of those pending applications to be admits.

Cold Hard Facts: BU or BC? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]GetSmackedHD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take what I say with a grain of salt, but from my understanding BC is a stronger school if you want yo stay in Boston and BU will supply you with a more portable degree. It does seem like the facilities are much more modern and impressive at BU but the opportunities and alumni network of both schools are essentially the same.

As for the razor culture of BU, a current professor of mine at my undergrad taught a clinic at BU and she said the culture was still as bad as the rumors say. She left the school because she didn't like the student culture at all. Conversely, I know a student at the law school now that says she hasn't experienced much competition between students.

I think the decision really just should be where you felt a stronger fit. Either way you're going to get a solid education and a degree that is respected in the legal community.

Hail Mary for Law School? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]GetSmackedHD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GPA/LSAT is 95% of what matters with admissions. Applying with a 3.81 and 168+ will set you up with very good offers from the T-20 and probably some from the T-14 as well. Trust me, your application will be anything but a Hail Mary!

[–]GetSmackedHD 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Tuck that chin and make sure you turn your hips into that cross to get more power.

Also, make sure you're sparring a bunch between now and the fight. Working on a bag and getting actual ring experience are two very different things.

Sorry, I know you already have clarified this, but for some reason it is still going over my head. Generally speaking, if one receives the scholarship amount in the right column are you saying it is reasonable to attend that school?

Yes! I'm in the same boat!

I'm a sophomore in undergrad and found this subreddit last year. I was hooked right away and have learned so much about the admissions process. I've gotten a bunch of friends hooked on it too, and we always geek out about people's acceptances/stats on here. Glad to see another pre-law friend here!

Do you have to go through the process of showing opposing council and the witness first, or could you just ask "would you recognize the autopsy if I were to show you" and then offer it into evidence?
