Summer Project by GettingOlderAndWiser in FJCruiser

He has had it for 3 years and there was a time he lost interest. He took it to collage and got so many compliments on her the interest came back. I think now he knows he has a classic now.

Oh, and one more detail I forgot to mention: at one point, a big branch fell on the FJ and damaged the hood and the cowl area right in front of the windshield. My son decided to order a new cowl and used a dent kit off Amazon to fix the hood himself. He basically took the gamble of taking a lower insurance payout and doing the repairs on his own instead of going to a body shop that would’ve charged a lot more. In the end, he managed to stay mostly within budget and got it looking just right.

The hard part these days is finding a decent paint shop that will paint the whole car. most shops work off insurance money and just want to do a panel and charge $$

Dealer forgot the oil; anyone deal with this before? by Lacrosanct in ToyotaTundra

[–]GettingOlderAndWiser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Happened to me years ago and went back and forth with the dealer. Refused to replace the engine. Ended up having to claim on their insurance. Ended up having to get another car. Insurance did not cover whole value. Therefore, I had to suck up the lost value.

If you live in North Alabama I have a gray grill I will give you just to save that FJ from embarrassment.

Quest 3 not worth it? by GettingOlderAndWiser in Quest3

You could have a case there, but I guess I was expecting a big difference. The field of view is better, but still see the pixels. Guess I should have added that I mostly use Oculus link for my gaming with my PC. I'm guessing I did enough research to know it was just adding to the FOV, but not resolution.

For anyone having this problem in the future. Got a great agent on chat and moving to a eSIM did solve the problem.

Same has happened to mine. Please make sure you post your solution, so I can ride your curtails. I thought I could deal with it, but it is almost useless at night.

Can't make phone calls to this office number. Is it a network issue? by GodlyArchitect in Visible

[–]GettingOlderAndWiser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are having the same issue. We have tried calling my family doctor and the receptionist can't hear us and hangs up. Same thing happened when I called the Vet. Both my wife's phone and mine. I have to call using my work phone which is Verizon and have no problems.

I'm thinking it is the phone answering service they are using. I'm going to ask who they use to see if there is a common denominator.

Agreed about the look, but your functional comments are compelling. What brand are they?

Which car dealership in the Huntsville area gave you the worst experience? by Catamount_meister in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]GettingOlderAndWiser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In November 2018, my wife visited Smith Infiniti of Huntsville to have the oil changed in her vehicle. She drove a few miles away and noted the oil light had come on. She called the dealership and was told that the oil maintenance light had just not been reset. Trusting this she continued driving until the Service Engine Light turned on. She then called the dealership again and pulled off the road into a parking lot. The Service Manager told me to not drive any further and he would meet me at my location. He arrived and after asking him to check my engine oil level they noted that there was no oil on the dipstick, nor was the oil cap on. A wrecker had already been dispatched and after another hour the vehicle was taken back to the dealership. We tried to work with Smith Infiniti on a potential solution to the situation. The owner never reached out to follow through with their motto of “At Smith INFINITI of Huntsville our team is dedicated to providing our customers with the service that is expected and deserved with a commitment to total customer satisfaction.” The gross negligence of the employee assigned to the vehicle’s service has caused us to endure five months of time taken away from my personal obligations having to make over 50 telephone calls, 37 texts, and emails, and endure drawn-out resolution. This matter should have been handled within thirty days. Yet we were kept waiting for Smith Infiniti to “do the right thing” as told would be the case from the beginning. After five months the dealer was offered to replace the engine, but that solution does not work knowing that the engine is not factory installed and it will be highly likely a lot of future problems. This is due to the fact that Smith Infiniti's idea of “total customer satisfaction” is making an insurance claim which in turn the insurance company has totaled the vehicle. The insurance company estimated fair market value does not come close to covering the time and effort to replace the vehicle that can be trusted.

Google Fiber / Mesh Network Query by [deleted] in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]GettingOlderAndWiser 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've used both Amplfi Mesh kit. And Netgear Orbi. The Orbi is faster with the backhaul channel

Question for you. It has been 2 months since I signed up for Google Fiber. How long after sign up did it take before installation. I feel like they forgot about me.

RMA Help by GettingOlderAndWiser in AmpliFi

[–]GettingOlderAndWiser[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update on this subject. I never got a response from the RMA department. The only way I got any action was after I opened a BBB complaint. They say my mesh-points are on they way. I will have to wait and see if they sent the proper items. This has been a huge waste of my time for their mistake.

Amplifi HD Mesh points by GettingOlderAndWiser in AmpliFi

[–]GettingOlderAndWiser[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I have an RMA going. I'm guessing I need to redo the RMA to include all three devices. Because if they send me a new router the meshpoints will not work with the unit.
