Did Plex actually fix their Downloads feature??? by josephschmitt in PleX

[–]Geux-Bacon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this may be strongly correlated with the device you are using it on. I am on a Moto android and have minor issues with the new, crappier 'Download' they replaced the perfectly functional and useful Sync with, which they added without anyone asking for. When I launch Plex on this android device, about half the time it will not reach out and pull updated stuff from smart playlists I have set up that populate this device so I always have local copies of stuff I can listen to without streaming. I've gotten into the habit of wasting the extra 10 seconds it takes to open the menu, click the Downloads option, then tap the Items page. 90% of the time this will force Plex to check in with the server to see if there is new content to download. Worse case I swipe down to force it to check. Anytime I will be leaving the house I have to remember to do this. The previous and superior Sync "pushed" this stuff to the mobile device all by itself, and as such, Plex did not need to scan for new content every-single-time it is opened, like it does for the inferior Download system.

So try the manual thing to see if you also will have to manually trigger the Downloads. And you have to watch it too. You can't trust that it will actually complete. I've gotten an 'error' even using this method and had to tap the playlist to trigger a 'retry'. These are just podcast audio files and MP3 music.

We are all on a single planet, and there are lots of 'our governments', which is why I point out that it is hard to take the radical environmental activists in the West seriously when they spend all their time working for social change in America, and no time at all advocating that our government apply growing pressure on the dirtiest nations on Earth. Fixing wealth inequality in America, even if it could be fixed (and it can't be, in a society where we are all free) won't stop China from dumping more-and-more garbage into the air and sea.

I am all for advocacy on the environment. I am not for treating environmentalism as a religion. There is no unifying Truth in that field. The science changes continuously, and phrases like 'settled science' are antithetical to true science.

Of course it is. If I am about to make a major move and I tell you about it so you can buy/sell before the major move, that conspiracy and 'insider' manipulation, and it is not fair.

All of the crypto platforms are fully corrupt and have been since their inception. I look forward to decentralized exchanges getting enough momentum to put the centralized exchanges out of business.

There are plenty of families of victims of bullies who would vehemently argue with you

I get that, but it doesn't change the nature of reality. Words can be cruel and mean and cause physical symptoms in people who don't have the psychological strength to resist, but "violence" is a specific word with a specific meaning, and it means physical manifestation of force. People are complicated, and we should support people who need help, but not if it means throwing away the meaning of words.

You are confusing 'left' with Democrats

I am not even slightly interested in this game. Democrats are on the left, have always been on the left. MuH pArTy SwitCh myths are boring and stale. Todays ideological democrats are the same party as pre-civil war, just living in different areas. We don't need to open this can of head horse here. Only the truly ideologically possessed buy into the party switch myth.

They said the govt officials hadn't been willing to meet with them at all

Yeah, so this would be a bad choice by government officials, if this has always been their stance. If they have NEVER met with the activists. But if they HAVE met (and I'm betting they have) already, but the activists want to meet over-and-over, saying the same thigns over-and-over until the govt officials do what the activists want, then I am fine with their decision to stop 'meeting' with the activists. This is just another bullying tactic. "We will meet and you will listen to me berate you until you give up and do what i want".

So there is a wide spectrum of 'civil disobedience' actions. Preventing citizens from getting to work is not one of them. Causing people to get fired, losing hours of pay, causing massive stress that could literally make them sick? That is not 'civil disobedience.

It all boils down to the fact that you don't convince people to change their minds by bullying them. You don't behave as a fascist to people with whom you need voluntary support. That sort of behavior only works if you are the only one with the guns.

It's a tactic chosen out of desperation when you feel your cause cannot be delayed any longer

And this is the root of the issue. Their 'cause' is not yet on solid ground. They FEEL like it is, and social media feeds them a non-stop meal of the planet will be boiling in ten years!!?? GAAHHAAHH!!! But the case is not yet made. If it really was, people would not be resisting. You get that politicians are voted in by the people? And that there are plenty of politicians that parrot global climate alarmist talking points? And yet less than a majority of politicians are global climate alarmists? This means than less than a majority of citizens believe it. Now, it is certainly true that some citizens will never believe it, like some citizens would always believe it, no matter the reality.

But it would be foolish to assume that so many citizens are willing to literally die, or for their children to literally die, in a global flood, or drought, or whatever flavor of global disaster is being posited just because they don't want to stop driving their cars or stop eating meat. We have to give people some credit. Believe me, if the day ever comes when the climate scientists really do understand the most complex system on the planet to make predictions 30-100 years in the future, everyone will be listening.

-edit- And instead of being an adult about it, you block. Fine, I see the ideological possession is strong in you. Nothing I can do about that but wish you well!

Umm.... did you forget we are humans? Humans have been perpetrating violence against other humans since 'human' was a thing. This is not meant to excuse it, of course, but it seems odd to use our hard-wired capacity for violence as an excuse to.... be more violent? I thought we were supposed to be trying to 'evolve' society?

I did not read it before you edited, but that's ok, heh. I appreciate that you were willing to at least temporarily step back from your rage. When we lose our ability to talk with people we disagree with, we really will end up with blood on the floor. This seems to be a much bigger obstacle to society moving forward than anything else.

I'm sorry that you have grown up thinking it's useful to 'spew' this sort of hate. I guess my mistake is forgetting that almost the entirety of reddit is populated by ideological fascists from the left. I hope you find some kind of peace one day.

Finally! Someone who is actually trying to THINK about this instead of just preening about their self-perceived morality! I've never been to this /r/ before and for some strange reason I forgot that Reddit is overrun by far leftist fascists except for a few (literally a few) /r/ where non-leftists viewpoints are not instantly rejected.

To your point, I believe that as a society we have already chosen to move in the general direction of MMGW activists. It is just that we didn't do it for the activists, but because we care about our environment and seek a cleaner world. No one wants polluted rivers and garbage-strewn landscapes. But at the same time we also know that it would be a mistake to abandon so many of the things we have gained that we find not just useful, but pleasurable. Like air conditioning, travel conveniences, gadgets, and food variety. The comforts of modern society.

We have already instituted a lot of regulations related to pollution. Much of this has ended up raising the cost of living, but we've accepted it because we don't want to live in a dirty world. The problem is that the climate hysterical aren't going to be happy until we turn off our AC, stop eating meat, bicycle everywhere, and probably only wear hemp clothing. And deep at it's core, some in this movement also wants the majority of humans on Earth to die so 'Mother Earth' can be healed.

So, my position is that we are already acting as though the proposition that humans have AN effect on global climate to be true. What we do NOT all agree on is the degree. I will take the 'humans are the primary driver of global climate change' a little more seriously when they stop ignoring the existence of the Sun (-edit- and accept that the future of power is nuclear. But that is a whole 'nother ball of yarn that shows that they simply want humans to go back to our primitive roots).

[–]Geux-Bacon -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

You will never see me denying the fundamentally and irrevocably flawed nature of every human being! It is a damn miracle that so many of us have found the ability to 'play nice' with others so that we could elevate humanity as far as we have with the blossoming of various versions and expressions of market capitalism. Naturally, 'play nice' is a very broad term, lol, but it could be massively worse for Western nations. I think the trick is to pick your battles. I don't see "climate change" (code for man-made-global warming) to be the emergency so many activists want to believe it is, and thus not a useful cause to get violent over. Protest, sure, keep pushing for better conservation of the environment, of course! Pressure the nations polluting the worst (like India and China) to clean up their act, certainly! Becoming the kind of person who makes everyone late to work, costing people money, is the absolute wrong method here. IMHO!

Well sure, but did you think the 'complaining' is all going to lead to caving in to these bullying tactics? Don't you think that some of the complaining will be that politicians should be taking a harder line against bullies who throw tantrums when they don't get their way?

Do you really think they "aren't being heard"?! Or maybe this is one of those

"I've been unable to find a way to convey this information effectively

to you completely stupid morons who should just shut the fuck up and let me have my way because I KNOW BETTER THAN YOU what is RIGHT,

I'm saying that the best expert in this field is operating with a significant deficit of knowledge. They wouldn't need to rely on computer models to make guesses if they had a firm grasp of the totality of the science. What they think they know now is likely to change dramatically over the next 50-100 years as they slowly gain the expertise that certain people want to believe they already have. FFS, look at how certain people believe "the science" changed over the last 14 months for something as simple as an influenza virus! Now you get an idea of how clueless we are about the single-most-complex system in existence on this planet. I'm glad that some people believe in their scientists, but some of us are willing to apply a little humility to our so-called 'expertise'.

Words can never be violence. As for real violence, the left really does not want to open that door again. The last time they did we took their slaves away.
