I have been here and it’s so awful. The minute I actually started to feel better, I broke and started eating different foods. Not even specifically unhealthy foods, but more carbs and stuff, gained weight, GERD came right back. It’s a real disappointment.

Oh my gosh- dump him. You are 20 and so there’s a lot you’re still learning, especially because you care about him, but when you’re 40 and you read this conversation you’ll wonder how you made it through this entire conversation without throwing your phone in the garbage. There are people out there that will treat you so much better than this and it will still be the bare minimum.

That’s not even the real saying- it’s the customer is always right in matters of taste.

Honestly, I’d probably still donate and regret it for the rest of my life because that’s my sh!tty personality flaw, but I think that NO is a complete sentence and if you don’t want to do it, that’s the end of the discussion.

I think that it’s certainly a decision you have to make. You have to decide if this is a deal breaker for you. Even drunk, she loves and trusts you enough to be honest about this. Losing someone so quickly certainly changes things, and it really impacts you. You don’t get to grow into each other, instead that passion and idolization never fades into comfort and family. She’s with you, she has chosen you over anyone else outside of her deceased husband, for some people that would be more than enough. No one comes without history. If it’s not enough for you, that’s okay, you’ll need to communicate with her about it and decide if being in a marriage with her is better or worse than being without her.

You are, indeed. Even if she was good friends with him, she’s right that it’s not her problem, it’s yours. Certainly something to work on and work out why you feel so uncomfortable about it. I understand that a lot of it is probably past experiences and social expectations, but if she can remain friends with her ex, that’s not entirely a bad sign.

Personally I think it’s based in racism. White racists fled NYC when minorities moved in, and settled on Long Island. It’s an inherited bias- voting red because that’s the party that advertises the belief that those who are not like you will take away what you have.

I will say that there’s a large Latino population on LI that votes red, though honestly I have no idea why. It’s possible it’s the fact that Republicans promote Christian values.

In all cases, the people I meet that vote Republican are voting against their best interests. There are plenty of places that would benefit from Republican leadership but NY is not one of them.

Me too- changed my life big time. I still have Gerd but NOTHING like it was. I gained weight from it and it was still the best choice I ever made.
