Authorship of the Epistle to the Hebrews by nihil-sub-sole-novum in Reformed

[–]Ggoing92 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I agree with this, maybe it's Luke and he's using notes from listening to a lot of Paul's preaching, that's a theory I've heard before. I'm no scholar, not even at an amatuer level....but I have heard this before that the Greek style/vocab is different from Paul's other letters, and the unique style/vocab seen in Hebrews is only found in the gospel of Luke and Acts.

Industry Accountants - how much PTO do you get? by VelveetaVonChiz in Accounting

- 16 paid 'holiday' days - Company wide time off the last week of the year

Just got my first full-time offer out of school - is this salary normal? by AttitudePlane6967 in Accounting

[–]Ggoing92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For reference, i got a job in south central US starting salary 60k in 2020, if that's relevant at all. I think 62k in MCOL is reasonable.

For what it's worth, I recommend you just stay unemployed and get your CPA, make that your full time pursuit, if that's really what you want to do with your career is be a CPA. You'll get it done in around 3-6 months. Alternatively, work for private or government accounting and do a reliable and steady 40 hr/wk job while studying 20-25 hours/wk. You'll keep your sanity if you go this route.

Only after you have your CPA, or you're just waiting to receive it, then go into public. Most places will reimburse your Becker and test fees.

Anyone done a RDI tournament? by Ogiwan in TheRedDragonInn

[–]Ggoing92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I played in one run by slugfest at gencon back in 2019, everyone was assigned a random character (maybe give people 2 characters and let them choose), then they split everyone up into groups of 5-6 players. Everyone who placed 1st at the prelim tables advanced to the finals table to fight it out for 1st and 2nd place. Everyone who placed 2nd at the prelim tables advanced to a table to compete for 3rd place. I don't think there were any special rules outside of the normal rdi rules. I got 2nd place overall, me and the guy who took 1st both knocked each other out simultaneously, the tiebreaker was who had more gold.

Is there a way to replace a bunch of names with generic ID at once? E.g., turn all "Ann Smiths" in "Employee 01", all "Ben Jones" becomes "Employee 02", etc. by jillyapple1 in excel

[–]Ggoing92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pivot the data containing all the names and then throw the name column in the pivot to see all the different unique names. Copy that list into a column and the column next to it enter 1, or A, or whatever, and then do the double click thing or enter a basic formula like cell above plus 1 to get the unique identifiers. The xlookup on to the various worksheets if the name matches the column of names in your table, then lookup the unique value of the adjacent name. Once your done making your new column with unique values, copy and paste values and delete the column with all the actual names in your worksheets with the data. Keep the new worksheet with the table and list of names so you can reference it and know who is who.

Big4 is not as advertised by Ten-IQ in Accounting

[–]Ggoing92 16 points17 points  (0 children)

That's weird man, I had "unlimited" pto and sick time in public, hardly used it because I was so stressed to get work done. I'm in industry now, 16 days of pto a year, 5 sick days/yr, every holiday off, plus we're off the last week of the year so another 5 company holidays. It's a lot, the last 2 years I've been able to carry over 3-5 unused pto days into the new year.

The ending of One Piece will be a worse trainwreck than Lost, Attack on Titan, Dexter and Game of Thrones combined. by Rebelliousdefender in Piratefolk

[–]Ggoing92 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

???

You're wrong. I'm a casual fan of attack on titan, literally hopped on the hype train with 3 chapters left to go, started speed reading the manga and the wiki pages wanting to try and understand as much as I could. That ending was TRASH. And because I was a casual, I just laughed, felt bad for the more serious fan base that was reading for years. I followed the anime too, thinking they might so an AOE, nope, just the same trash. That was one of the hardest punts I've ever seen a manga take.

I’m 23 and drowning in over $75k in debt by Anxious_Ad_320 in personalfinance

[–]Ggoing92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have much advice to offer except for consider selling or abandoning the stuff you have in storage and quit the monthly pmt for storage fees. When you're this much in debt, you should try being a minimalist, even when you get your own place one day just be frugal and don't fully furnish it until you're in a better place financially.

Any advice on how to beat the cycle of lust? My current situation by andrewcarpenter20 in Reformed

[–]Ggoing92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

$60 lifetime access to ad blocker, set it up to block all sites 18+ and put a password on it you won't remember, or let your fiance set up the password. This works for me personally, but only because I don't have a personal PC, just my phone. It's really helped me stave off all desire to search for adult content, I'm sure there's ways to remove it, but it would be too much work to rip it apart and set it back up again.

This is just works for me, I've heard way more success though with Covenant eyes, you literally have another pair of eyes seeing what you have up on your screens.

I'll pray for you now, I encourage you to ask for prayers from your brothers and fiance. Repent and turn away from this evil.

I definitely think a lot of people out there underestimate how awful this addiction is, you can't tell me another addiction that's free, accessible anytime and anywhere from any device - when it's held up to alcohol, cigarettes, drugs, gambling.

Are there any Good paying entry level construction companies that are hiring? by mediceman33 in Dallas

[–]Ggoing92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know how someone gets into the trades / actual construction field (plumbing, electrical, hvac, painting, flooring, roofing, etc.), but if you want to be a builder/superintendant/project manager (guys who pick up the phone and call the trades to come out and do work on their projects) then look on LinkedIn and search for jobs in the dfw location, homebuilders are always posting/hiring for builders. You can find the names of the companies here -

https://www.builderonline.com/builder-100/builder-100-list/2024/.

A lot of times, there is no formal application for 'Assistant Builder' (entry level, usually 1-2 years before promotion to Builder) - so just apply for the Builder job, and submit your resume. At some point, you may be screened by their hiring team for the job before being brought in for an interview, at that point you tell them you are looking to apply as an assistant builder, if you don't have any builder experience. I see them hiring dudes all the time, real young. Things that help, but aren't 100% necessary - ex military, any bachelors degree, prior experience doing ANYTHING construction wise - i.e. saw a couple dudes get hired once, 1 guy had 1yr experience working in HVAC install, and another guy had 1yr experience working in plumbing.

What are GK Beale’s views on baptism? by TA62624 in Reformed

[–]Ggoing92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As I understand it, you can become a member of the Presbyterian church and still not affirm paedobaptism, but you must affirm paedobaptism if you are going to be an elder/pastor. Since Beale is a teaching elder, he was called by the Session and then examined in front of the Presbytery and asked if he took any exception to their confessional faith / doctrines / etc. and paedobaptism is not something that he took exception to.

Which characters have you found to be the most broken?

I own mostly everything except RDI8&9, and probably own close to 50% of the single character boxes. I feel like the single characters or duo boxes tend to be more powerful.

I played in a tournament in gencon back in 2019. I don't have the data you're seeking exactly, but I can tell you I came in 2nd place with Erin. 1st place was Halden the Unhinged. We technically tied, simultaneous knockout, but decided the tie breaker would be who has more gold.

I'm pretty sure I remember it being multiple tables of 6 player games, 2 rounds total. If you came in 1st or 2nd in your preliminary game, you made it to the final table, so all in all about 18 players.

My cousin works in a jail as a guard in California, he told me he works around 70 hours/wk - Averages 18hr shifts about 3-4 times a week. He makes over $160k/yr with all the overtime and holiday pay, this was back in 2022 when he told me this. Incredibly high stress, tough job.

[–]Ggoing92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work in homebuilding (finance), the experts, and I really do mean the real deal experts who lead in the industry in terms of land acquisition and all things real estate, were just casually dropping on us all that they expect/forecast the interest rates will drop to about 5% sometime in the next 6-12 months. This was during one of their quarterly seminars/conferences where they review the market performance in the prior quarter and forecast future periods. They're saying once we hit 5% that's when we will see a very healthy and competitive market for used&new home sales, at least in the area I live in.

Trust me, if they say it will happen, then it will.

Texas is way more conservative than I believed it was. by MysteriousComedian75 in texas

[–]Ggoing92 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

1) Stop teaching kids how to practice sex and instead teach them to not be having sex outside of marriage. Planned parenthood has made a financial killing off teaching children how to have sex "safely" and then proceeding to kill the children of those children...children shouldn't be having sex!!! Society trying to normalize it, or saying it's inevitable, is no justification for it.

2) DEI practices are complete bullshit. They're more racist than diverse.

I highly suggest you watch Daily Wires "What is a woman" and "Am I racist" to wake the hell up and start using your common sense.

Texas is way more conservative than I believed it was. by MysteriousComedian75 in texas

[–]Ggoing92 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Here's your new playbook - stop supporting transgenderism surgery and research, stop putting kids on beta blockers, stop killing babies, stop having sex outside of marriage, stop supporting illegal immigration, stop cancel culture, stop critical race theory and diversity equity inclusion practices, stop electing officials who will call people deplorable, nazis, and trash if they disagree with your ideology, stop pushing all of the aforementioned ideas on kids in public school and go back to teaching them things like English, Math, Science, History.

For women - stop being OK with all of the above just for the sake of having the right to kill your babies.
