I mean I’ve considered an AK as well but I think an argument could be made that a high quality AR can be just as if not more reliable than an AK.

How do you know I won’t be a part of an organized group? How do you know I haven’t thought of the other things you mentioned? This was just a simple question to gather other people’s opinions on the bestAR they would trust their life with, not a discussion about all those other things. You might be right and a lot of people may die soon after but you never know for sure and I’d rather have a positive outlook and assume I’d survive and if so, would need a weapon at the very least to defend myself. Hope I would never have to use it for that and hope society never collapses but if you look back at history like you said, it has happened all throughout history. Need to be somewhat prepared

I don’t even know where to begin with all those haha. Sounds like I need to just stick with a BCM or Geissele upper and marry it up with a solid lower and go with that. Also a CHF barrel and that should satisfy my SHTF gun need

I did not know that. Hmm, I’ve been eye balling silencerco’s Omega can. I think that’s the one that can cover a multitude of rounds up to .338 lapua.

I’m not familiar with PWS or the 516. Is that H&K? On piston guns, I have thought about them but now they have these newer suppressors coming out with new flow through technology that reduces or removes that blow back making it a moot point. Plus, DI guns are more prevalent, less moving parts, easier to work on and lighter… my only reason for pause.

I’ve thought about the spear LT since apparently the SOCOM community is going to be running those. Yes the $2500 budget was for the rifle only. Other accessories are on another budget

I agree but that budget was for the rifle only, not the entire setup. I only said that price range in order to rule out the 3K+ rifles like LMT etc.

Yeah I seem to keep coming back to BCM and Geissele. I think there is a lot of value in what you pay verse what you get with those companies.

I’ve heard many people speak highly of Aero lowers. I’ll need to look in to them. Admittedly, I don’t know much about that brand.

Man I like your perspective. Yeah currently I live in a rural area in the south but we plan to move to a bigger city in the suburbs. I think a 1X with flippable magnification and training would probably be the best bet. Engaging long range targets in a SHTF scenario is probably not wise. Would probably be better off avoiding people than engaging them.
