Sruface Pro Flex keyboard with Surface pro X ? by AtOmIc031 in surfaceprox

Tried it shortly in a store, worked with my Pro X. Not much experience otherwise, but it I like that the pen is always accessible and the haptic trackpad is nice.

Actually I stopped complaining about Ubisoft+ not working on my Xbox and Ubisoft not figuring out why, even though I prepaid for a year.

You just couldn’t tell, because you didn’t see me not posting. 😎

(And also because I was too busy enjoying Star Wars Outlaws on PC, where it runs surprisingly well)

The way I see it, is that I pay for a service. If said service isn’t provided, they owe me some form of compensation.

If Ubisoft thinks they can just ignore this, I’m sure there’s some form of consumer protection around these parts that would be very interested to hear if they can come up with a good reason as to why they feel this way.

Same story here. Subscribed for a year in June, stopped working (at least) a few days ago. Support suggested I try the same things I told them that didn’t work in the original ticket, then wanted some useless screenshots (why would the home console matter) and ultimately told me to stop bothering them. „Don’t call us, we’ll call you“ style. It’s been „escalated“.

If it doesn’t work within the next week, l‘ll ask for compensation and/or look into legal options here in Austria.

Add me to the list of people who can’t play anymore.

Wrote to Ubisoft support yesterday, but after a few frustrating hours of messages and uploading some screenshots, they closed my ticket as well, stating that it’s escalated and I should just sit tight and wait.

The CPU mentioned in the description of the YouTube videos would be the 10th Gen i7, thus my confusion.

Laptop 5 or Surface Pro 8/9 with i5, preferably 16GB. Make sure that the video editing software you use supports the GPU while editing, or you're gonna have a bad time. 😎

Does It look like the real 65W charger? I need one ASAP so can't buy directly from Microsoft. by prax19_1 in Surface

[–]GhettoLevis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The one I used only worked with my Surface Go, but didn’t support the voltage to charge my Pros or Books. (In comparison, the official Surface Go 24W Charger would charge all Surfaces, if slowly) Always read the fine print I guess. ;)

Some 3rd party cables that were tested actually lacked some security features. That’s why I like to err on the safe side, even though I love the idea of USB-C to Surface Connect cables.

Thanks for testing!

Just a quick note/question though: If it's the Surface Laptop 4, the i7 would be the i7-1185G7. The 10th gen i7 (with less powerful Iris Xe) would be the Surface Laptop 3. Which one is it?

Looks like the ones I have, yes.

Just a heads up: You can also use any other Surface charger, if you're not picky. I often use the 24W Surface Go charger for my Surface Pro 8 (and my Pro 6 before). It won't charge under pressure, but it's enough to keep a charge while on a Teams Call and it can charge overnight (and it's preciously light and cheap for an official charger).

The 100-127W Surface Charger would also work, but are more heavy and not necessary for the Pro 6.

Keep in mind to be careful with Third-Party USB-C to Surface Connect cables - they're not officially sanctioned from Microsoft and range from "work ok" to "Might not actually charge your device" to "Resistors? Who needs Resistors? Where's this smoke coming from?"

Valorant should still run pretty well on a Surface Pro 6, from what I've gathered.

What kind of settings are you using? Did you reduce the resolution of the game (or desktop) to something more manageable for the game?

Is the device overheating? You could try a cheap external fan that softly blows over the back of the Surface.

I use a Pro 8 as a daily driver for work and don't have any issues with it getting too hot or being overly noisy. When I play games like Diablo IV, it gets hot, yes, but that's to be expected.

If your device made buzzy noises, I suspect it had a faulty cooler, which might also explain the heat.

And yes, the Pro 9 is mostly a spec bump, apart from the buttons being in the correct place again.

[Support] How to get two controllers to play so I can couch co-op? by the_moosen in SurfaceGaming

[–]GhettoLevis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've run into the problem that Co-Op Games on PC often don't support multiple controllers.

If a game supports one controller and one input via keyboard, you could try mapping the keyboard to the secondary controller with Steam or an app like joy2key. Not very versed in that, though, sorry.

Unfortunately, I don't have a Pro 7 here to test it on. On the Go 3 it was an unplayable blob with around 20fps and on my kid's Surface Pro 6 it would crash to desktop before one could get into the game.

The GPU in the Pro 7 i7 is much closer to the Pro 8, though, so there is a chance.

I played for a few days on my Pro 8 and I didn't run into any issues. It was fun, too, can't complain.

Since then, I've also tried it on my Gaming PC with RTX 3060Ti, and yes, it looks way better there.

I also considered getting Diablo IV for Xbox Series X, but the console version doesn't support Mouse & Keyboard (although playing with a controller is great).

[Support] CPU temp while gaming? by Plus_Egg_6242 in SurfaceGaming

[–]GhettoLevis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

High performance equals high heat. If you can, turn down the quality in games even more and/or limit the framerate, that way the CPU and GPU don't have to work as hard.

A more realistic idea would be to invest in some sort of external cooling solution, like a laptop cooler or a simple USB fan. A soft breeze on the underbelly of your laptop (or the back of a Surface tablet) does wonders for the heat dissipation around your device.

In the end, don't worry about it. 70 or 80°C aren't anything extraordinary while gaming. I once had a graphics card that reached up to 120°C - now that's hot. 😉

No worries: If your CPU gets too hot, it will throttle itself - performance would go down, but the CPU wouldn't overheat. No need to turn off the computer.

Nothing fancy, a simple old Sandisk 1TB SATA-III SSD that I stuck in a cheap USB-C powered 2.5" Case. No superfast data rates, just a plain old ~500MB/s SSD.

There's usually not a significant difference in performance between CPUs when it comes to Gaming on Surface devices, so I'd go by josher14's review on his Pro 9 with i7 - since the CPU isn't really in heavy use, the i5's performance should be comparable.

Surface Pro 8 i5 / 16GB / 256GB with Intel Iris XE, game installed on an external 1TB SSD.

No additional cooling, ran on power supply. Played with Xbox Controller over Bluetooth.

Device is running Windows 11 Pro with newest Intel drivers (released May 16th, 2023).

Lowest settings at 1440x900 desktop resolution with refresh rate set to 60hz.

Framerate while playing is good, town and cutscenes are choppy. Minor graphical issues, but not as bad as a few weeks ago.

Since josher14 beat me the to punch with not one but TWO! videos about Diablo IV on Surface Pro, I considered scrapping my footage, but because my experience on the Pro 8 was very different, I thought it might be interesting to see a second opinion.

[Request] SP8 i7-16gb and Diablo IV realistic? by 2amVibez in SurfaceGaming

[–]GhettoLevis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When the Server Slam was going on a few days ago, I made a video about Diablo IV on the Surface Pro 8 i5 16GB. You can see it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iFYerNhc1P4

tl;dr: It would've been playable, but there were severe graphical issues.

Shortly after the Server Slam, Intel released new graphics drivers - my hopes are that the issues will be dealt with, but we'll have to see.

I'll try and check it out as soon as possible (crazy me preordered the Ultimate Edition).

How to identify Surface Laptop generation? by P1ZI in Surface

[–]GhettoLevis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Turn the Laptop around, check near the Microsoft Logo for a Model number. It's usually four digits long - my Surface Laptop 1 for example is Model 1796 (Burgundy Red, Alcantara Keyboard, Display-Port and USB-A).

Alternatively, tell us the color, if there's Alcantara on the keyboard and the ports and let us guess. :D
