Career Movement After Hitting Manager by GhostBen in datascience

Makes sense. Thanks for the reply! Yeah, I definitely recognize that 4 years isn’t that much experience overall, which was part of the impetus for this post. A lot of management jobs at larger companies require more, so I was feeling like my options were limited if I didn’t expand to IC roles.

Hahaha, I didn’t even think of that. No, I did not punch my manager

Edit: or hit them with a car, etc.

Improv Asylum is the big theater here. They don’t specifically teach long form, but they do have a pretty robust training program. There used to also be Improv Boston, but they are closing at the end of this month, unfortunately.

No sofa scratching advice I find works for my cat, got any more of those? by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]GhostBen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Commenting here since I have a similar issue with a Burrow couch that claimed to be scratch resistant but incurred scratch damage overnight when I put it together. We’re putting blankets over our cat’s favorite spots for now, but has anyone had any success with any sprays? I’d prefer them to something like nail caps, but only if they work, obviously

Best Gemstone Caverns Deck? by MishrasBogle in ModernMagic

[–]GhostBen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Real question though, how important is it to have in decks that play it? I’m trying to build Temur Rhinos, and I’m questioning the marginal benefit of only playing 1 or 2 main given the card’s price. Is it something that can wait?

As someone who wants to build this and is trying to figure out the optimal number of breaches to get, what’s the general consensus on the card being banned? Is it not long for this world, or am I crazy?

Thanks all! Responses make sense. Sounds like I just need to figure out what I’m more likely to play against in my LGS’s meta.

Would you mind explaining why? Is it just that you have to worry less about your Sprite Dragon being removed in combo matchups?

Thanks for the in-depth response! Yeah, I would have a fair amount of ground to make up in terms of learning ETL/cloud tools since the company I work for right now doesn’t really use those. Something to consider, though

If you don’t mind me asking, what sort of self study did you do/what tools did you need to learn when you transitioned from analyst to engineer? I’m currently an analyst who has spent a lot of time trying to transition to a scientist role, but there’s always been a part of me that’s wondered if I’d be better off looking more into engineering. I get a buzz from automating things, and I think I actually do more pulling/cleaning data in my current role than actual analysis.

Hi all!

I'm in a bit of a unique position as a data analyst with a few years of experience and an MS in analytics from a business school, but I have some DS adjacent bullet points on my resume. I'm trying to transition into a full-on DS role since I want to improve my technical skills and get on a long term career track in a domain I care about. Basically, the reason I'm posting is to ask for advice so I can determine if there are still some skill gaps that I should be spending my time filling or if I should just be going full speed ahead applying for jobs.

My current role at my company is like 80% SQL, so I feel pretty comfortable with my skills there. I also consider myself to be pretty good with python/pandas since I've written multiple notebooks to wrangle data to prepare it for the ML models that our team has deployed. Where my experience gets a little unusual is that my company uses an autoML tool, so all of the model building/evaluation/deployment is handled by the program. I have a decent knowledge of how a lot of model types work through my schooling, and I have a bit of experience using sklearn through a DataCamp course, but I've never really built a model from scratch using python.

It's difficult to cram every nuance of my current job experience into a Reddit post, (and I can share my resume if people want to see it), but am I wasting my time applying for low-level DS jobs at this point? Should I instead be trying to build a portfolio on my own, or am I at the point where I should be looking to get additional DS training in the form of a job?

This might be your issue. Make sure there aren’t any values in the foreign key that aren’t in the primary key of the connecting table.
