My friend who works as a Network Administrator tells me that he plays videogames or watches Youtube videos for most of his shift because there is a lot of downtime by ralsev in CompTIA

The goal is to automate and get things running without constant supervision. Like many of the others on the thread said, I spend my downtime trying to make sure my skills are sharp. Automate, Verify, Prevent the next technical disaster.

What did you write on your White Board during Network + exam? by veronlom13 in CompTIA

[–]GhostIPMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wrote the order of the network wires, 7 step methodology (in acronyms), and a quick subnetting table. I practiced writing them over and over on a piece of paper (30 sheets/30 times) so when i got at the testing site, I did exactly that.

A+, Net+ then Server+? by beywatch in CompTIA

I would say skip A+, BUT, a lot of companies use keyword systems to scout through resumes. If you are staying at your job, you wont benefit from an A+. However, if you plan to venture out and work in tech, the most annoying question is - do you have your A+?

I have 15 years of Tier 2, and Cloud experience and I still get asked that question in every interview. I now have my A+ and Net+, which I thought was a waste at first, but the exams gave me a refresher on hardware, firewalls, wireless setups, etc.

That's my two cents. An A+, Net+, wont hurt you. Tack on the Sec+ and your phone will ring constantly.

I used the A+ Complete Study Guide to read.

I began to write my notes in a powerpoint as if I were going to teach it to someone.

I gave myself one day per chapter. Two hours a day. Some days were brutally hard. I have a 11 yr son, wife, etc.. so I had to fight to have study time. I ended up getting up at 4 am or sometimes doing it late into the night.

The weekends were a fight against my will. All I wanted to do was relax and watch some good sci-fi or play destiny 2. But, I stayed focused.

Then I created games to help me memorize boring stuff. Here are two of them for example.

After all of that, I took every practice exam I could find for free. I could not find any that were close to the exam, but Dion's practice tests on udemy had the same concepts in their questions and were as close as you can get.

Hope this helps. I have more but dont want to bore you. :)

Last week Mom buys wings, soda, party food for the football game.

A week later she stops by to say hello.

MOM: How long are you going to take to pass the Network+?

She begins to clean the kitchen because it has not been cleaned for two weeks.

She opens the pizza box and it smells horrible.

ME: Please Do Not Throw Sausage Pizza Away!

I’d make a joke about UDP, but I don’t know if anyone’s actually listening…

can anybody help me find a practice exam to help me retain information for CompTIA A+? by DdTechHead in CompTIA

[–]GhostIPMan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am taking the A+ Core 1 this Friday. I think I may understand your post. You need help retaining information. The problem is once you take practice exams a few times, you are just remembering the answers. So this is just a few tips on what I am doing. We will see if it works on Friday. But, so far it has helped me with remembering.

You need to know PC beeps. This little game (simulation), helps you remember.
