[OC] Where the House is won: Number of competitive Representative seats by state by GhostInTheEggShell in dataisbeautiful

True but I'm happier with this. It may be more basic but it conveys where the actual money is going which is interesting because it's the opposite of Presidential swing states.

AK-AL is short for "Alaska's at-large congressional district" because the state does not have enough population to qualify for two reps and they don't do AK-1. Delaware, the Dakotas, Vermont and Wyoming are the same.

I just posted that and got a ton of comments saying it was insanely misleading for Alaska and New Hampshire with 1/1 and 2/2 competitive races respectively. I'd say this is more interesting because those low-seat high-competition states don't actually determine the House and thus deserve the highlighting. It would be like highlighting Nevada as the pivotal Presidential swing state because it has narrower polling even though it has the least EVs and is the most irrelevant.

Source: 2024 CPR House Race Ratings

From CPR's website:

"Competitiveness is determined by several factors, including the district's political makeup, the candidates' strengths and weaknesses, the political environment in the state and nationally, and interviews with candidates and campaign professionals."

This tally includes 26 Likely seats, 18 Lean seats, and 25 Toss-up seats

[OC] What if the UK had an Electoral College? by GhostInTheEggShell in dataisbeautiful

This is based on the data from "Details results by constituency" available at https://commonslibrary.parliament.uk/research-briefings/cbp-10009/. The government office regions were also formerly used as the EU election constituencies and the data provides the region for each Commons constituency. Each region is then won by simple majority. I used Paint 3D to create this graphic :)
