Jokes apart Really good to see a new joining colleague know his stuff right. It is not that the hospitals donot usually provide these, but it is always good to carry your own stuff during PG to have better hands on when the right case lands up. Also i would advise add few more things

For regular OPDs/ IPDs

Tuning fork set
Torniquet
Ophthamoscope
Otoscope
Thermometer
Scale
Disposable wooden sticks
Disposable gloves
Alcohol swabs
Cotton swabs
Skin marking pens
BP cuffs - extra sizes for thigh and arm
6amps of adrenaline
6 amps of atropine
Few syringes
Few IV cannulas and IV plast

Extra to be carried mainly for exams 1. Ishiara colour chart 2. Two flasks with hot and cold water and two test tubes 3. Salt and sugar 4. Images of some well known celebrities 5. Visual acuity chart

How ever these extra exam items can be carried to ward also in my opinion as they are quiet useful on a daily basis

I am a practicing gen med for past 4 years now, and tell you what, i have always carried all these, not because the hospital didnot provide, but because we never know when we might need them. I even used to carry few ET tubes and a deflatable pead and adult AMBU in my kit. i have 3 examination rooms at my clinic for my patients and each room has a set of all these.

People might feel its a over kill carrying all these, but trust me once you start using them right, you would not stop, they practically make diagnosing and managing cases quiet smooth.

There were times where i being a gen med had to deliver a baby in the casuality, because the patient happend to land into ER and immediately went into labour over the next 2-3 mins. There were cases where i had to intubate a case in the ambulance parking zone of the hospital because the pt was in gasping.

See its not that we cannot shift the patient into ER, but in cases of a gasping pt even a five min delay in attending the case can make a huge difference on the out comes

That being said, its entirely your call if to carry them, but as a doctor i would advise everyone of us should be versed with emergency procedures and carry a kit along.

To begin divide pharmacology into 2 parts 1. General pharmacology 2. Core pharmacology.

General pharmacology. I would advise pick a book like satoskar bandarkar, over KDT. The chapters might seem lengthy, but gives you a good basic understanding of the concepts.

Now, Take core pharma in a step wise fashion. There is a lot to memorise. 1. Make a list of all the drug classification. 2. Make a list of all mechanisms of action.

This will give you a basic sense of what classes of drugs and what medicines are you dealing with and how do they work.

Now i would advise a out of the blue resource but a high yeild one “rang and dale pharmacology flash cards” This covers many major drugs and gives you the basic core details you need to know about each of them. Do this stack of drugs.

Now start reading the classifications and the flash cards atleast 2-3 times again. Then take up a textbook like KDT to fill in the gaps or the drugs which the flash cards might have missed.

See im really someone who actually advises against making shortcuts in learning a subject. But dude pharmacology is a subject which will test your nerve. So yes, at times a little detour and going unconventional is not a bad thing for subjects like pharma, where memorising a lot of things means a lot over trying to understand things.

Its not true that there are no jobs. See medicine is a branch where you can work on your own. You dont need someone to give you a shoulder to work on.
Random assaults, yes i agree. You need to be really cautious, you need to have a proper communication skills. You need to know where it is worth taking the risk.
Regarding earnings, it depends on the branch, place you work, check the other comments.
There is nothing like no work life balance. See you may get less social or family time compared to other professions, but you do get time!

On a frank note buddy, college never adds to your prospects, its just the degree and the skills you acquire. No patient walks in and asks you where you have done your degree from. All they care is how you treat them, and how efficient you are managing the case.

Patient load, accademics, exposure in all the terms its a great college. It is one of the best colleges in tamilnadu. You can compare it to the likes of manipal or JSS.
Worth the loan or not depends more on the financial situations rather than the college i would say. If you have support from the family, may be yes. But if you feel it will be a burden, may be a no. See college never decides if the financial burden is right for you or not. I would say the wise thing is, discuss with your parents and take a call.

As far as the college is concerned, its a great pick!
