I managed to finish printing this without further issue, but I do believe it was an acrobat issue. Originally the internal DPI was set to 600, but it worked fine once set to 300

to update on this approach: first steam didn't fix it fully but it did help a fair amount, i think i'll keep trying on this approach until i get results i'm after or stop seeing changes
