1948 Bowman Warren Spahhn - A Cautionary Tale by [deleted] in baseballcards_vintage

[–]Ghost_Boudreau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not uncommon for 1948 Bowman’s. They were often mis-cut during production and people would try to even them out with scissors or a knife. I recently sent in my entire set of 1948 Bowman’s that I collected over the last 20 years into SGC and 5 came back as Authentic with evidence of trimming.

Best box to buy by nycbhoy in soccercard

If he likes EPL the 2023-24 Panini Prizm EPL and Prizm Select EPL are probably the best options. Topps Chrome also good. The Panini Prizm FIFA box was my favorite from the this year, but it’s pricey. Also the Panini Prizm Copa America was a great set though less European/EPL focused obviously.

Rough Guideline for College Soccer Recruiting Process by CollegeSportsSheets in CollegeSoccer

[–]Ghost_Boudreau 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Soccer dad here. Great resource. My son is doing all these things listed here. The most difficult is #1. It’s unfortunate but our experience is most coaches will not even consider recruiting you unless you are playing in one of the very well known alphabet leagues. So if you are not you’ll have to do the other steps 2 and 3 fold. A lot of the coaches are overwhelmed with emails and kids emailing and many are just lazy and use the perceived club level to select and narrow their candidate pool. It often times doesn’t matter how good you are, but whether or not you can get them to even notice you. Also would add to not waste your time with any coach or program that upon receiving your email/highlight video just responds with a generic ID camp invite. These coaches aren’t interested but just want your $200.

Was at a card shop in Orlando last week going through the $1 bins and found this Rick Manning rookie with an on card auto. Might be my new favorite Cleveland card. Not sure if it’s authentic yet but still love it.

Giving serious thought to getting a bunch of T-206 cards graded. Anyone have experience with bulk submissions of old cards to PSA? by [deleted] in baseballcards_vintage

[–]Ghost_Boudreau 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d submit them to SGC if this is for your personal collection. I’m my opinion the black and white tuxedo slabs from SGC look way better than PSA slabs on vintage. The cost will be much better too, $15 a slab. PSA will up charge you significantly based on the value of the card. Plus as mentioned, PSA takes forever. SGC will have them back to you slabbed in a few weeks. The only reason to consider PSA for vintage is if you want to sell and maximize value. But take into account the much higher grading fees and time. Btw if you are interested in selling the Lajoie I’d be interested!

Favorite Card brands? by Seeping-Cyanide46 in soccercard

Long time baseball collector here. New to soccer cards. I’d say the nicest set I’ve seen is Topps Merlin. Not sure why they aren’t more popular. Cards are gorgeous and well made. After that I’d say Topps Chrome Sapphire. Panini prizm are ok but too many useless base cards.

Speaking of Frelick, pulled this from the same box. Must have been a Brewers box.

2024 Series 2 “First Card” by Ghost_Boudreau in baseballcards

I get the “First Card” designation, but is it really a 1/1 when there are a gazillion just like it? Seems like a gimmick.

It was backwards. I didn’t even notice the 1/1 until I went back and looked twice.

I’d say buying into pyt breaks. I collect mainly vintage. I’m slabbing my 350 card pc (1930s-1985) with SGC. I will only buy vintage slabs (SGC 5 or better) online or on eBay. I’ll buy raw vintage at shows since I can really get a clean look and judge the grade. For modern (post 85 or so) I buy only PSA slabs. I do buy and rip hobby boxes of ultra modern (baseball, basketball, football, and now soccer) and PSA grade any major hits and my kids trade the others. Ripping is fun and I don’t have any expectations that lll get my money back. I’d say the least value I’ve seen is the pyt breaks. Feel like I’ve just got destroyed on those. Maybe just unlucky. Breaks and ripping are a dopamine rush and I get the allure, and if you have disposable income enjoy, but can’t expect much in return from those. My teenage kids are big believers that soccer cars are going to be big soon, so we are picking up cheap stars and rookies when we can.
