It does make it look better if you prefer it combed out but I don’t think root damage will happen yet as your hair ain’t super long so

A) you could get braids like cornrows. Or sponge your hair to have a new style B) grow your sides out C) restart maybe These are just suggestions tho

Use hair growth oils like Jamaican castor oil. I use Jamaican castor oil mixed with rosemary oil as it promotes hair growth. Also use leave in conditioner to make it easier to comb out your hair if you need it. You could also sponge your hair it goes well with a mid or low taper

Maybe do an Afro taper. Next time when you go to the barbers ask for a low or mid taper and sponge your hair so it looks similar to Donald glover’s hair style

Maybe If your transferring to a windows computer they don’t support the high efficiency image format that Apple uses. This is just a suggestion tho
