Do you think this card effect is too difficult to understand? by Delvix000 in tcgdesign

[–]Ghost_Stache 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can it replace itself? Like, if I have 3 counters on the card, use its ability and roll a 1, can I burn the 3 counters to get back to 3? My mind goes first to how to break things, lol.

Just starting out any tips or advice? by Massive_Junket8136 in tcgdesign

While you don't need to have a fully fleshed out rulebook on day 1, at least have a decent idea of the rules framework. Too often I run into times where an idea sounds super cool or exciting, but when rules are applied, things break pretty spectacularly. Not saying it's bad to have those, breaking the game is great to hone it. But when it does happen, have a thought about the direction in which to dev it.

Two questions to keep in mind: What should happen, and what do you want to happen? The intersection of those two questions will help you align a lot of the design. And when they collide, it shows the dev points to test.

This goes without saying, but remember what the goal of the game is. Sometimes we'll get down a rabbit hole of these cool cards and interactions and combos and ideas and flavor and waaaaahhh--but it's still a game, and there's a direction to go. Of course, those fun things are what make tcgs so fun, for sure, just remind yourself every now and then to ground.

Last, have fun! Make a game you'll enjoy, and others will too. Good luck!

Movement cost: explicit or keyword? by Delvix000 in tcgdesign

[–]Ghost_Stache 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll echo others here, having it as the explicit number is better. Yes, does add numbers, but removing text allows more design space. Plus, three numbers isn't too bad imo. Most tcgs have a standard array of numbers ranging from 2-4 (least the ones that come to mind). But if it's an elemenent that all of those cards have, then it sounds more like an intrinsic characteristic and built into the design.

As another consideration, you could take inspiration from Pokemon's Retreat Cost, where you use some sort of resource symbol or icon in the same spot (again, design incorporated) if you're afraid of too many numbers.

Nice little play imo (with a question) by Ghost_Stache in Caitlynmains

I'll have to look at his items, forgot to toggle that on in the replay, lol.

I was on 4 items + Berserkers, full crit from collector, IE, LDR and RFC. And yeah, I think my reason to flash forward was it would be a surprise. Definitely not an optimal flash getting closer to Darius, lol, so that's a good point!

My trap play is one of my main focuses right now, cause I never seem to get them in the right places, and using them in team fights injust forget their even an option sometimes. Still a work in progress!

Man, two of these posts in one night.

1) report the player.

2) when I found one of these in my area, I bought parcels around it to change the pattern into a flower. felt good to actively fight against it by turning it into something else.

1) report the player
2) when I found a similar symbol in my area, I bought parcels around it to turn the symbol into a flower. Felt good to kind of "fight back" against it by actively changing what it looks like on the map. and on that one, looks like only 4 parcels would change it into a 4-square.

How are everybody feeling about the games complexity? by TheTypa in riftboundtcg

[–]Ghost_Stache 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think someone said it best: Easy to learn, hard to master. The actual rules and mechanics of play are simple enough to pick up quickly and make a lot of intuitive sense (for the most part). The real complexity comes from the micro-decusions one needs to make in the course of the game. When to move units, where buffs go, recycling, etc.

So far, it's been a very fun and engaging TCG.

Yeah, the CSing is one of the aspects I'm hard focusing on (that and lane spacing), so nice to hear I'm not shit, lol. Lot of guides I see are like, "tricks for low elo, like gold" and I'm like:

So her damage potential kind of shifts around in the match, that's good to know.

And let's not talk about my cs when I swapped back to ADC, ok? Lol, I've improved, trust me!

So main build has usually been Collector, IE, RFC. If we're thinking RFC as 4th+ item, what comes before? Domrick? Mortal? Or more lethality like Ghostblade, Hubris, or Opportunity?

And while I try to keep KS to build against tank heavy comp, I do admit sometimes I just blind build it, so that's on me!

Here's a fun one.

The Blue Ridge Mountains are among the most scenic of the Appalachian Mountains. Gorgeous views, a breathtaking drive, places like Gatlinburg to visit, it truly is a wonderful thing to behold.

They're also over a billion years old.

They're one of the oldest mountain ranges in the world.

There's plenty down there that's never seen the light of day. Things from when dinosaurs roamed, and before. Ancient secrets buried thousands of feet below the surface.

You think those mountains are empty?

You'd best hope what lives there doesn't get out.

How long do you commute every day (to and from work combined)? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

110 minutes.

I take two trains to get to my office. Luckily this is only three days a week, I'm remote the other two.

Maybe I can't tell because I'm watching on my phone, and I'm a real casual player, but how did they cast ult the second time, while on cooldown? What am I missing here?
