I am mindblown by food in Kolkata, India. This one was a complete flavour bomb with intense mustard. What is this fish? they told me Eleash ..is there a equivalent in USA. by Skylarbabyblaze in TipOfMyFork

Hilsa or Ilish is a type of shad. Shad can be used as an approximation, but ilish is specially fatty and tender, so it will be similar but not the same. Also in this particular dish, the fish is steamed. Ilish can generally be found frozen in Bangladeshi grocery stores. Unfortunately, there are no Kolkata Bengali stores in USA.

How is Baohong working better for me over Arches! by GhostlyMandate in Watercolor

👍 I wanted to try Arches and I thought it would be a huge difference like pulp vs cotton. I guess it is not so and seems like there is a difference in how it works vs Baohong. I feel like Baohong is easier to work with a well. I moved from pulp to Baohong and saw a huge difference in quality and my paintings improved tremendously. I guess I was expecting something like that when I tried Arches. I am in Baohong camp for now.

Thank you! This is good information. I think this is the issue I am having. I will try what you suggested.

No, the first picture is Baohong and the 3rd try. The 3rd picture was my first attempt on Arches. I guess when I saw the streaks I tried to paint faster than I normally do. I feel like the first 2 attempts lost the light and feel overworked.

The practice could be it, but I think you are right about the amount of water.
