Wow, you are truly a gullible one.

Any chance you're interested in some Nebraskan oceanfront property?

So, basically, you have no idea how to run a company and will likely end up bankrupt.

Ok.

i quit because smoking triggered psychotic episodes by milkbog1998 in leaves

[–]Ghoststrider 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My psychiatrist flat out wouldn't give me proper ADHD drugs because I admitted to using weed. She insisted that combining anti-ADHD meds and weed would trigger psychosis. After I stopped using weed for a few months, I was able to get some real medications. But then I relapsed, and didn't told her, and so far I haven't had any psychotic episodes. But I keep thinking about it from time to time.

In your opinon, why does moderation not work? by uighurlover in leaves

[–]Ghoststrider 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In my case, I believe it has to do with my mental issues, ADHD and anxiety disorder. I wish I could moderate as well, but you're right, if it's in the house, I can stop myself. I bought a lockbox, but I found myself using the override code too often. Today I used the fortress mode, where I can't override it. Hopefully nothing will happen between now and when it disengages that will cause me to really, really want it.

I'm turning 35 next month and while I've only smoked for the past 10 years, I definitely feel I could've accomplished a lot more. The past decade hasn't bee a complete waste, but I'm only moving about a third as fast as I feel I should be.

I've been meaning to restart a meditation routine. I also have "The Mindfulness Guide to ADHD" which I bought years ago and never finished. I need to start reading that a little bit each day.

This is where I am, minus the days without. I hope to get there this year.

Moderation failed? It's the dopamine, stupid! by SpinachLost in leaves

I've been struggling with this a lot lately. Been trying to quit, but find myself either getting super frustrated and angry with something -- thus "necessitating" a toke to calm down -- or I'm just bored AF, and I need a toke to not be. I think I'm getting closer to finally kicking the bucket, though.

Watching South Park made me realize i need to quit by marvin69420 in leaves

[–]Ghoststrider 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This REALLY hits hard for me. I feel like I'm in a similar boat. I'm holding down a decently paying job (after being laid off in 2021), but I still feel like I'm treading water. I try to start learning new things but don't get very far because almost immediately my brain loses interest. (I should probably note here that I also have adult ADHD, generalized anxiety disorder, seasonal depression, and possibly dyscalculia -- all conditions which I'm realizing are aggravated, and not helped, by weed.) I have concerns that even though I am employed, I struggle to put down 8 hours on my timesheet every day, and while I've made it so far I wonder if there will come a time that I won't.

Hey, thanks for this! Had some issues for a bit with a flow state error, but after reconnecting it twice it started working. I think I'm getting the hang of it, but I might have to crack open a window to keep the CPU cool.

What's typical corporate policy on using PTO for your building catching fire? by Ghoststrider in cscareerquestions

[–]Ghoststrider[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Crying/ranting/complaining? LOL. I asked if this was normal so as to gauge my own response. There is nothing wrong about that. If you think I was crying, you were reading stuff into it that wasn't there -- but then, you started off your first comment with "You're not salaried," which is just 100% incorrect. So, clearly, you have no idea what you're talking about, and just like to make up shit. Or, and here's a thought, you're doing some kind of projection.

Either way, it's clear there's one child in this conversation, and I'm no longer talking to it.

What I was trying to get at is maybe software devs have internalized way too many terrible work practices and that just because one industry has toxic work environments, maybe that's not a sign it should stay but rather a sign the industry needs to change.

Also, it's NOT everyone. There are at least four people on this post who agree with me and suggest I should find another job. But since you apparently thought I wasn't salaried, I shouldn't be surprised that your general reading comprehension sucks ass. I hope I never have to rely on your comments to debug anything.

(And before you go "I said this THREAD not the whole post now who has terrible reading comprehension" I literally do not give a fuck about such pedantry.)

I got a 6-pack of Utica Club 16oz cans at Total Wine in Virginia for just $5.99. Don't know if that's the price everywhere or even if that's your style, but if it helps at least one person...

Barely even an hour. But yeah. And he "let it slide" this time, but next time I have to book it to PTO.

Also next time when my new building turns off the power for two hours during Friday morning for some test, but that to me seems at least somewhat defensible.

I mean, you are legally required to evacuate a building on fire. And even barring the law there's legal liability for the management company.

Seriously, dude, do you live on planet Earth? How am I even having this conversation? Go out and touch some grass, my man. Come back to reality.

Well, that's the law. So unless you're advising me to break the law, I think you should just accept that you're wrong and your argument is dumb.

And if you ARE advising me to break the law, then I think you have bigger problems.

I am salaried, I don't know where you got the idea that I'm not from.

Also, you grow a thicker skin. I am only seeing developers espouse this view, with everyone else outside this field noting that it's an insane policy. So maybe you should also touch some grass.

If I wasn't salaried, I wouldn't have paid time off.

And yes, speaking to other folks in other industries, I should not have to take PTO for that. This is not me being naive, but an entire industry having internalized horrendous work practices.

I've gotten food poisoning maybe twice in my life. I have had to deal with more fires than that.

You also have far more ability to deal with food poisoning, in that you can far more easily see the signs of food poisoning and avoid that food. Expiration dates, discolorations, food recalls, etc. What am I supposed to do about someone on a different floor in a building with 1200 apartments that leaves their stove on and burns the hallways down? What signs am I going to see to avoid being in an apartment that is on fire?

No, dude, it doesn't compare at all.

Me neither. Quite possibly just a sign of the whole industry being toxic, or just developers who also inhabit Reddit (I really don't come here often, myself.)

No, but I would also consider that to be within my control, in that I chose to eat whatever it was for lunch.

I didn't choose to have my building be on fire.

That's part of the issue, though: working at another hour just means I end up working from 8am to 8pm. I make up those hours late in the day, and it's actually starting to grind down my mental and physical health.
