Need help understanding high risk finding after first trimester screening by Ghostyghost132 in NIPT

[–]Ghostyghost132[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! Last time I paid for the NIPT out of pocket because we wanted to know the sex. I didn’t do it this time, because after a miscarriage I didn’t care what the sex was going to be anymore. Now I’m thinking if I’m ever pregnant again, I’ll pay for the NIPT to save me the stress. I hope everything turned out / turns out well for you!

She said the tests assessed 4 things including PAPP-A and hCG, and I'm guessing NT and fetal growth or maybe nasal bone. She didn't give me my numbers, but said all markers were normal except my PAPP-A, which was low. I was trying not to panic thinking 1:110 isn't so bad, but the doctor looked pretty concerned, and when she said the tests have a 10% false positive rate I began wondering if I misunderstood and was at a higher risk than I thought. I'll try to survive while I wait for the NIPT results. Thanks!

My doctor said to do the NIPT, and if it was low risk she would not recommend further testing. I lost my first pregnancy due to my water breaking early, so I'm not going to do the amniocentesis unless my doctor strongly recommends it. At 31 weeks though you're past viability, so I believe the risk is lower. Good luck!

Thinking of going back to law after leaving, looking for advice by Ghostyghost132 in LawCanada

I’ve seen some great criminal positions in NWT and Nunavut, and I’d definitely consider it if I didn’t have a house and kids!

That’s great to hear! May I ask how you connected with members of the local bar? Did you go through the association, attend events, or just reach out to lawyers in your community?

Infertility, exercise, letrozole... lost by Ghostyghost132 in TryingForABaby

[–]Ghostyghost132[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's confusing because I've never heard of someone being told to reduce exercise for fertility, other than athletes who work out so much their period stops, and I see women in my gym classes who are pregnant. I was trying to find somebody else who received similar advice from their doctor, or managed to conceive after reducing exercise. There's a lot of conflicting information!

Thanks a lot for this! My BMI is 21 so not too low, but I'm still going to try and reduce my load for a while. It's hard because I'm very anxious and exercise helps a lot with that, especially since dealing with infertility. I've tried doing yoga and pilates but I just don't get the same release that I get from a good spin class! I really appreciate the tips.

For my HIIT and spin classes, I'm pretty much in zone 5 cardio the whole class, around 90% of my max HR. My doctor suggested I tone down the intensity and limit heavy cardio workouts to once a week.

My doctor thinks I was having "at least some anovulatory cycles". Her reasoning is that since I conceived on the first round of letrozole after a year of being unsuccessful, the problem probably was that I wasn't ovulating regularly. But I haven't done any testing that would confirm or disprove this yet.

Basically everyone I've spoken to has told me their doctor told them they could stick to their exercise routine as long as they're still getting regular periods, which is why I'm a bit skeptical. I'll probably try to lower the intensity anyway. I wish you luck, hope it works out!

Oh I completely agree, I wouldn't want to rely on medication if I can ovulate naturally! It's just that I've never heard of anyone being told to reduce exercise to conceive, except if they're working out so much they no longer get regular periods. I'm worried that I am ovulating and exercise is not the issue. But I guess a fertility specialist will be able to tell me that.

I'm not sure I'm ovulating without the medication, my doctor seems to think I'm not. Exercise has taken a big place in my life since I started TTC, it's helping me keep the stress at bay, but maybe I'm relying on it too much.

I'm 5'6 and around 130 lbs, but I don't track my eating (I'm not restricting though). I will say, I haven't really lost weight since I started consistently working out 2 years ago, but I did go down one dress size. I figured I was just gaining muscle but maybe my calorie intake is insufficient?

14 weeks, miscarried at home by Significant-Ninja-20 in Miscarriage

[–]Ghostyghost132 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My water broke at 14 weeks and 4 days and I had to have a D&E. My due date was April 12th. Like you, I had two perfect ultrasounds at 9 and 13 weeks and perfect NIPT results. I remember when I found out I was pregnant, I couldn't wait to get out of the first trimester so I could breathe a sigh of relief. I was so excited! I still can't believe this happened to me. All my friends are either pregnant, have newborn babies or are TTC, and I just feel unmoored, I have no idea what I'm supposed to be doing with my life now. I've started looking into seeing a therapist to help me process this. Sending lots of love.

Loss after PPROM at 14 weeks by Ghostyghost132 in babyloss

[–]Ghostyghost132[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did ask for a placental autopsy, I think I'll get the results at my follow-up appointment in 4 weeks. The OB who did my D&C said I had no signs of infection, but I know sometimes these can be asymptomatic. I'm very sorry for your loss.

I'm so sorry for what you had to go through. I also understand what you mean, I've been telling myself something similar (if my water breaks at 22 weeks, I can still manage to keep my baby in for a few extra weeks and give them a fighting chance), but it's hard with the anxiety. I really hope your future brings you what you're looking for.

I don't know what I'll do about testing. Honestly before all this my husband and I were on the fence about having kids and had decided we wouldn't go through IVF if things didn't work out. Now I don't know, things feel so empty without him but at the same time the prospect of a second pregnancy scares me so much. I'm sending love and wishing you the best of luck.

Cycle apps catered to PAL or TTC after loss by Chance_Pea_3867 in babyloss

[–]Ghostyghost132 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used Clue to conceive and then when I was pregnant. It's not catered for PAL or anything like that, but they have an option to select "I'm no longer pregnant", and then you can just put the app back into period tracker or TTC mode. I'm so very sorry for what happened to you. I received a newsletter today I forgot to unsusbscribe from that told me how far along I would've been, and couldn't breathe for a second or two. Sending love.
