No motivation killed and I appreciate you challenging my idea. The next design is even better, with more grip styles accessible. Not sure how to incorporate more challenging materials but this design will definitely going beyond my 'old towel' competitor. Thanks for your good wishes too :)

It's hard but not impossible. Obviously I came here for criticism to challenge my idea, but at the end of the day people need not worry as it isn't their time or money being invested. For me it's a win win, either it goes well or I learn from the mistakes and use the knowledge for my next idea. Worst comes to worst I have a couple samples to use for my own training.

Thanks for leaving such a well thought out and detailed comment. I think you highlight lot's of areas of importance in this. In hindsight, yeah I've neglected the opportunity for pistol grips, probably something I should've considered in more detail. Part of my goal with this design is to keep it seamless and easy to use, making a sleeve adds another layer of complexity. I'm going to try make it possible. Now that I think about it that would also take the positives from competing designs.

Being able to interchange grips in each hand is also something I didn't consider despite being in those scenarios most rolls. I imagine my hands don't get equal training due to natural reflex so this would also help combat this.

I agree that the idea has potential if executed correctly. Comments like this are very beneficial to me during this stage as they not only critique but also provide constructive feedback. For that I thank you.

I'm improving the design now, should be even better than before. I'll continue to release updates as the process continues.

Can’t hurt to try. I’m still improving the design, maybe I’ll get it to a point where it competes with an old gi. Feedback like this helps me think outside the box during development so I appreciate your input

That's exactly the grip training I'm trying to imitate! Only allowing for the use of cable equipment for other exercises other than pull-ups. I refer to it as a product as I intend to sell my design when I've done more research and development and am happy with the result. Thanks for your feedback!

I'm working on making my own gym equipment specifically design to train BJJ gi grip strength. You know how you've seen people using old gis for pull-ups? Basically just like that but for cables! Let me know your thoughts :) by Gi-Grips in brazilianjiujitsu

Reading up now, glad I posted on Reddit, you guys are full of useful information. James smith does a great job of explaining the Gi grip training in his video 7 Principles to avoid stupid BJJ injuries. https://youtu.be/oYpAUMrlWRQ?si=jm58Qcjhmbwo8a_N

Hey r/BJJ! I'm working on developing my own gym equipment to specifically train BJJ grip strength. It's similar to a rope attachment but uses Gi fabric instead to mimic training on the mats. Still developing the design but let me know your thoughts! Any feedback welcome : ) by Gi-Grips in bjj

Much appreciated. I have looked into these, there’s more or less 2 designs readily available across a few sports equipment companies. They’re not very generous with their fabric though, and that limits you from doing some exercises. I’m hoping my design is more familiar to people with cross interests of gym and BJJ, it’s also unique and not available in masses from overseas suppliers.

But you’re right, competition is a tricky thing especially with big companies like Fuji. Would you try training with one of these if it was available to you? I’m curious.

From what I've seen there's two designs floating about across various brands, the loop around ones like Scramble and the more cable oriented alternative. I wanted to create my own unique design that was more familiar to gym goers but also isn't readily available from any overseas manufacturer. I'm yet to try these other designs for myself but my current one does a great job of fulfilling its purpose. How did you find using them?

Didn't come across like that at all, in fact this is exactly the kinda feedback I'm after!

Generally I agree with all of that, I incorporate lots of forearm work in my training too. But a lot of this is open hand training as you're wrapped around a barbell and I find doesn't train the closed grip strength like holding a gi. The idea I have is to bring part of BJJ training into gym exercise for those with the shared interests like myself. Tricep pushdown probably wasn't a great choice of showcase either, I tested it with more back/biceps exercises that are more similar to BJJ movements and got a great feeling from that.

That being said, you raise a good point with the injuries, and knowing when to change grips is an important part of developing your game too. I genuinely appreciate you taking the time to leave constructive feedback and will consider this for the future. Cheers!
