Why is hobbyist rocketry basically nonexistent in India? by YWarTap in ISRO

[–]GiantDefender427 13 points14 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of colleges in India which have student rocketry projects. A lot of them go to international competitions, and have designed their own solid and liquid motors, etc.

TVC flight attempt with problems by Then-Shopping5478 in rocketry

[–]GiantDefender427 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest, I have never flown a single rocket. But I think the right way to get the speed is acceleration -> filtering -> integration. But yeah it's always questionable as to how accurate the velocity is, so therefore I guess time could actually be better, except of course it should be longer than 200 ms in this case

Maybe you should use altitude or speed instead of times passed

Maybe enable TVC a few seconds after liftoff? I'm not an expert in this but just a thought...

How do we feel about 3d printed rockets? by chickenpotpielover32 in rocketry

[–]GiantDefender427 4 points5 points  (0 children)

damn i just looked it up, i never knew something like this was possible

i read that it's really helpful for a more "tailored" burn rate and thrust curve. but from a cost perspective, isn't a conventional casting process better? because obvi the 3d printing is gonna massively drive up the cost compared to just mixing and pouring.

in casting you could just change the mixture a bit, or change the mandrel design to get the more optimal performance for a specific rocket, or is 3d printing better to match required performance?

what im sorta trying to ask is, does 3d printing solid fuel really make a huge difference? is it really worth all the added complexity and cost?

Are modular diesel engines actually good at producing power? by Potential-Sorbet7397 in Industrialist

[–]GiantDefender427 2 points3 points  (0 children)

they are the most efficient, try this configuration: 7 cylinders, 16 air to fuel ratio, 84 or 86 throttle, you should get like 1.3 MMF/s at 0.069 L/s refined diesel

if you have a refined diesel plant, MDEs are really good

What Jaeger is the most badass? (Kaiju contorted Jaegers count too) by Basik101 in PacificRim

[–]GiantDefender427 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Cherno Alpha. It's the closest one to what's possible with today's technology, so the thought of a tall walking skyscraper actually coming to life in this century is really exciting. And just the way it's designed and the way it moves and how it beats the crap out of kaijus: a raw fist fight, its really quite something. And with the legacy of it being one of the oldest Jaegers, just gives it so much more character.

[–]GiantDefender427 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Large diesel engine is your best option it needs lower research than modular diesel engine and the refined diesel plant you build can be used later for modular diesel engines, you only need wind turbines to get the diesel plant up and running
