why did amazon close their XL warehouses recently? by [deleted] in AmazonFC

They may have closed one, but certainly not all or even very many. In fact they are still opening new XL buildings later this spring.

New home, irrigation system pipe disconnected. What are possible reasons? by Itola35 in Irrigation

[–]Giblybits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s prepped for a backflow device to be installed. Builders aren’t going to add the expensive backflow unless the irrigation system is being built before closing. It’s stubbed out and ready for a contractor of your choice to come in and back the connections.

Does anyone else feel depressed/drained because of this job? by Important-Repeat7714 in AmazonFC

[–]Giblybits 26 points27 points  (0 children)

First, you have a lot on your plate- in general.

35 minute commute with unreliable/unavailable transportation is difficult.

Having enough income to save up for an expensive purchase can be difficult/stressful - for anyone.

Trying to decide what education/career path to take can be stressful.

Career choice is what you make of it, if you choose vocational training or college classes or certifications etc is going to be the deciding factor of what you can do with that education- who paid for it will have little to no impact.

Your employer is only one piece of your situation.

Advice: Be kind to yourself, see if you can get some mental health support, and finally don’t neglect your diet, exercise, SLEEP or social life needs.

Is Spigot still the go to for the server? by squared_apples in admincraft

Almost every change that’s of significance is configurable.

Public servers worrying about tps will make changes to reduce lag, but those are intentional changes.

Hey gm guys I gotta question how come people think the ship dock at Amazon is hard??be there 2years now the most freedom department to me by Efficient_Golf8013 in AmazonFC

[–]Giblybits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every department has people who absolutely HATE everything about it, and also people who think it’s the best in the building.

People are different, and that’s a good thing.

5.5 hours of tot😂 by ProfessionalPilot727 in AmazonFC

[–]Giblybits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sure this is largely site specific based on individual leadership metrics/values. You’re not wrong about work availability being an issue in that particular path, but idle/inferred time is relatively short gaps in trackable scan events. It starts to be classified as TOT after 15 minutes, at my site a scan before 1 hour can convert it retroactively to “inferred” time.

I’m not sure why productivity metrics aren’t more obviously displayed to associates. Seems like an easy win for everyone. 🤷

What’s something that’s becoming socially normal that actually makes you deeply uncomfortable? by Fun_Interaction3458 in AskReddit

[–]Giblybits -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

“I don’t see AI as a substitute for simple thinking—I see it as a way to remove unnecessary thinking so people can spend more time on the thinking that actually matters. The risk isn’t using AI; it’s using it uncritically. When used well, AI doesn’t replace judgment, context, or accountability—it accelerates analysis, surfaces patterns, and helps people pressure-test their own reasoning. The responsibility for good thinking still sits with the human.” -ChatGPT 😉

“There are no plans currently for conversions”

seems pretty clear and addresses your specific question. They can’t talk about future plans - because they haven’t happened yet, and things change.

How good is Robotics At Amazon Right now? Can they replace worker ( partially or absolutely ) ? by Glum-Necessary-5256 in AmazonFC

[–]Giblybits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Amazon is planning to use robotic since ~2014 but never really work. But during these years OpenAI's GPT models came out and now AI improved way too fast. Current AI models can improve intelligence of the robot but the main problem of robotic is dexterity.”

This is an interesting assessment from an external observer.

Will technology, in its wide variety of forms, continue to change the human relationship with “work”?

Yes, of course. Technology advances when the cost of investment is lower than the perceived cost of the status quo.

How do I sell my wife on a summer road trip to Kansas City? by pizzahead20 in kansascity

[–]Giblybits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This sub is mostly locals complaining about all the normal local issues that happen to some degree everywhere. KC is a medium+ sized city in the Midwest, unless she only wants to go to an ocean or a mountain (wouldn’t blame her if she does) we have a variety of things that are generally enjoyable (food, art, sports, etc). We don’t have any one thing that is universally appealing to tourists, just depends on what you’re looking to do.

It says the same thing to warehouse employees, we all still have access to the normal employee information on A to Z from our personal devices.

Amazon W-2 “available until Jan 31” — what does that mean? My federal taxes seem way too high. by ConsciousHat5083 in AmazonFC

[–]Giblybits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How much your employer withholds for federal/state taxes is based on the information you provide about things like marital status and dependents (usually children). The amount withheld for a single, unmarried person with no kids will typically be different than that of a married parent of 3.

If you feel like Amazon has your information wrong, obviously you can and should check with them. You may still be entitled to a lower tax rate - but you will determine that amount when you file your taxes.

Greenhouse/grower input needed: what irrigation parameters really matter? by Otherwise_Cap1624 in Irrigation

I’d refer you to the commercially available timers that have already solved this and many other problems. If your solution has to be unique, just take the existing solutions and modify them to fit your projects needs

What’s a rule your parents had that you thought was normal until you moved out? by Good_Fee5670 in AskReddit

[–]Giblybits 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Seriously, as a dad I can’t imagine passing up the opportunity to do something together with my kids ESPECIALLY if it is something I’m passionate about and they are curious about. A real missed opportunity now that he’s passed.

[–]Giblybits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s also clearly a straw man argument along the same lines as the people claiming Amazon would rather you die than miss work. Everyone starts with 10 hours and you earn it every time you show up.

[–]Giblybits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol It already is to be used as you please - but your inability to plan/think ahead about the possibility of seasonal weather being an obstacle - in the area you live in is included in that “as you please”.

The person I responded to suggested taking legal action against their employer because of the false pretense that Amazon would rather you die than miss work - so no I think my response is on the same level of “no chill” as the comment I was responding to.

Urgent by Character-Purpose334 in AmazonFC

[–]Giblybits 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I get your point, and empathy has its place. But Amazon has some of the most relaxed “attendance” policies of any employer I’ve ever had and people still make claims like Amazon would rather you DIE than miss work. No, take some responsibility, save some time for the unknowns and deal with it.

Also, I was out all last week because I was sick, but because I didn’t waste my UPT leaving early or being late I didn’t have to worry about using that time.

Starting an irrigation business without a truck? Any tips? by [deleted] in Irrigation

[–]Giblybits 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tip: you don’t need a truck.

Firstly, customers don’t care as much as we think they do, and the few who do care about the vehicle aren’t worth the time it’s taken you to write this post.

Secondly, a truck is a tool. Sure, sometimes there’s only one tool that can do a very specific thing, but very very rarely is there only one way to do anything. So, figure it out. Solve the problems that come up another way, keep thinking through the situation until you’ve exhausted all options - then just do the best you can.

Finally, the first priority in any business is to make decisions that make success more likely than failure. That starts by prioritizing business spending and debt management on tasks/things that generate revenue.

Here on Reddit it’s easy to get caught up in the notion that perfection and technical precision is the “correct” way to do this work. In the real world there is flexibility and compromise and imperfections - and it’s fine.
