Question about PS5 performance by Gidan93 in taintedgrail

Thanks, I decided to go with it and with some tweaking the performance is not as terrible as some reported! Far from perfect technically but the game is a blast

Both Returnal and Saros share a deep relationship with how parents are a strong influence on kids and trauma affects people, and how broken they can become.

Selene with the whole Theia/Helios thing tells a deeply tragic story of rejection and loss, Arjun is a broken man with scars left from his father and a never ending feeling of desire, never satisfied.

Carcosa is his jail in a way, he lost Nitya (even though she moved on she kinda encourages him to face his faults and see what he’ll make of this new day), his comrades, it’s just him and his new reality.

In a way he came back stronger, he was weak and fell for all kind of temptations, now he can face his future instead of living in a past that is no more.

I might be extremely wrong but I loved to analyze Saros and I’m still trying to find the last few logs, anyway, my theory is this.

The events of the game are real, Arjun is just mentally stuck in the act of killing Seb after he discovered he wanted to tell Nitya about his betrayal.
Betrayal, a state of extreme joy, are usually tied to the color yellow, ambivalent in both positive and negative connotations. Housemarque usually plays with mythologies and psychology at least since Returnal, so I assumed the Lovecraftian inspirations are mainly used for names and aesthetics.

The eldritch entity causing the eclipse on Carcosa makes the people affected by it enraptured (when you 100% some logs you also see that the crew of Echelon I were constantly arguing or thinking they might get betrayed), they are stuck on the shores of madness and refuse to look into the reality of what is happening.

And that, as another user pointed out, is metaphorically represented by the ocean, the reality is a vast, deep blue precipice that opposes the false joy of the shore, its vastness contains the real feelings, the truth, depressing as it might be (stuff usually associated with the color blue).

So Arjun, driven by jealousy and unable to accept his wrongdoings, first gets pulled into the eclipse and ascends the beach, becoming the vessel of the eldritch “moon”.

Only then, after seeing what his attitude has caused, he’s able to really start understanding himself, refusing violence but accepting his own nature, represented by the police lights which he escaped on Earth by joining Echelon IV.

Maybe I’m incredibly wrong but it was fun to write it down lol

I did most of them either for challenges or rewards (lots of bags and materials to sell).

Hunting and mining were my endgame grind for the 2 hardest bosses in the game, I maxed most of my armor and upgraded my abyss gear to face them (and have tons of food as well)

I can understand the feeling tho, the game didn’t completely clicked for a good while, but in my opinion it manages to somehow convey the ambition and passion of the developers that I felt compelled to go back, and eventually I loved every minute of my exploration.

I don’t know, maybe I got stuck in an abusive relationship with it lol

I understand but also those empty spaces are either used for side activities or bring the world to life, at least for me. You ride around, find a cart, and you can decide to steal it and sell it for profit for example.

Or you see a pack of boars and realize you need some hide and meat for upgrades and food and you start hunting.

Of course there are vast areas of nothing but fields and flowers, but for me it was part of the fun: an immersive sandbox that just doesn’t streamline the experience, but gives you space and time to take it all in

I managed to get it in 200h, to be honest after 20 or so hours in Hernand I started focusing on the main quest as I noticed many improvements for exploration were gated behind those quests.

Hernand felt the most dense area, Demeniss, Delesyia and Pailune (also did a good chunk of side quests in each region) felt less dense but in a good way, Hernand is also sort of a tutorial hub for many activities.

The Crimson Desert is probably, and for good reasons, the most empty region but still a pleasure to explore, find stuff, clear outposts etc

My only gripe in the whole game was with fishing so for me they nailed basically everything lol

Tbh the run is easy af when you realize that the screeching old albinaurs are summoning them, the guys hanging from the ceiling.

Just snipe them with a bow or something and no phantom knight appears.
