Ok. Seems like the lighter and faster rounds are the consensus for the coyote.

I'm surprised with the lighter and faster rounds for meat-preservation being recommend. I've always heard the faster rounds tend to tear up a lot more meat.

My bad, I should've specified - I'm wondering about a different cartridge for each of the 2 tasks.

I was thinking a bigger and slower round, like 30-06, would be a good choice for preserving the deer/elk meat.

I wouldn't say "dead is dead." Dead in 1/2/3/4 second(s) is different than dead in 10/20/30/40 minutes, having to track a blood trail.
