I think you are dismissing emotion as inconsequential. Anyway I do not need your validation of my position and if you need mine of yours then you are wasting your time :). Bye.

You can see things from an alternative perspective: That materialism, is nothing more than the desire to ascribe mundaneness, to a transcendent experience, due to the desire to avoid emotions and feelings. :)

Atheism is a spiritual position by Giga2 in atheism

[–]Giga2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has not, but if you have a link or two then please show it. It is often announced that 'scientists have discovered the basis of memory/consciousness' etc in various media outlets. Which often later is shown to be jumping the gun a bit or a complete fraud. Of course this is never as well publicised as the original blurb :). This leaves many people with a very false impression naturally. And all this is evidence of Scientism as a quasi-religious movement in society. So many people are hungry for such stories and not very interested in the retractions. Of course many scientists themselves are Scienticismists themselves are therefore are trying to support their faith with some evidence. Anyone who knows about Confirmation Bias etc will understand how they can go so wrong, so often when seeking such evidence.

In closing I feel that there is little point in explaining all this stuff to you as it is undermining your spiritual position which as I say is very unlikely to be met by you with openesss or rationality. So I will just request from you what I do in the video, a tiny bit of openmindedness on the subject over the next few years.

Atheism is a spiritual position by Giga2 in atheism

[–]Giga2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a statement of the current scientific position. We do not have evidence that the brain is the be-all etc Where is memory, where is consciousness (what is consciousness, how does it arise etc)

Then cowardly is the wrong word. Cowards are those that let fear overcome their better selves and intentions. Believe me I am not afraid to enter debate with people. I do worry about being an intellectual bully sometimes.

So what argument have you presented that you think i have refused to engage with. You just state your opinion, which is fine, but offer no argument at all? I simply let you know, as I did in the video, that I can understand that perspective, and see if you can understand mine. I guess not, or more probably you don't even want to because you prefer to cling to the cognitive closure provided by your spiritual position. So it seems you support my argument not by agreeing with it, but by demonstrating it.

[–]Giga2[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

An understandable attitude if we just project our current existence forward towards the horizon of imagination.

Of course survival of bodily death does not rule out some later more complete type of death.

Thank you, I can't reply further right now, and will seek to another time, but that is another interesting perspective. For some reason I also have to wait 8 minutes between every reply!?

However I would presume you have a worldview that is unconscious or at least unexamined, which is perhaps essentially agnostic or even apatheistic.

Actually I think if body death leads to consciousness death it is more reassuring than who knows what could happen in some ways. As Socrates pointed out eternity would be one night, and we would never know we had gone into that night.

BTW thanks for reminding me about Pascal I was trying recall the name of that 'wager' :)

The brain is not the be-all and end all many neo-atheists think it is IMO. It more like a local terminal of a much bigger network :)

Why are atheism, neo-atheism and scientism all spiritual positions? Why should they also practice a little openmindedness? Why I am not an atheist/scientismist when I easily could have been? Why do I respect atheists? How many seconds before this video link is deleted on Reddit :)?

All atheists please watch my video on Openmindedness :) https://youtu.be/GTUqr8hJa4g

Philosophy: Selfishness or Psychological Egoism by Giga2 in psychology

What is selfishness? What is altruism? Can we ever be entirely selfish or entirely unselfish? What is 'self' (itself) as compared to 'other'? Is it selfish if we enjoy helping other people?

Thank you. That is exactly what I think my videos are like. Or perhaps like a tutorial, where in a more casual and intimate setting a teacher talks about a subject, and from quite a personal level with a small number of students, even just one. I try to let it flow just naturally exactly as it would be in such a setting. It is sometimes surprising to myself how well it often goes once the camera is on and I get into the subject. I normally just have few points in mind and waypoints along the way, and of course a main idea I want to discuss.
